Its central position, its water, timber and building material, and its railroad advantages make Its lots desira ble. Head the notice, attend the sale and in vest. Fight Last Saturday our streets were again the scene of a disgraceful row a drun ken row on the part of two gents from the country, who vociferously yelled their Dem ocracy, and commenced Jerking around a well muscled Republican, who forthwith floored one of them. After which the Dems 6tlll made much noise, but kept aloof from Republican No. 1. Seeing negro Bill they thought to try their hands on him and both got floored. "And the negro troops fought nobly." Beware of negro supremacy. New Boot snd Shoe Store. We are much pleased to notice the opening of a new and exclusive Boot and Shoe Store in this city, by O. S. KcGIbbons, formerly of St. Joseph. Thus does Brownvllle constantly spread out, and business becomes classified. We learn that Mr. McGibbons will keep in store a full stock of every thing ih his line, even to such an extent that he can supply both the retail and wholesale trade of this District. May success crown his enterprise. The Joint Debate between E. V. Wilson, Spiritualist, and Prof. Shokey, Soul-Sleeper, as to the Bible proving Spiritualism, passed oft pleasantly last Saturday, Sunday and Monday. We do not believe that either made any proselytes to his faith, and the audience was very much divided as to which was ahead when they quit ; a majority, we have heard, decided they were about " neck and neck." Prof. Wilson lectured on his theory last Tuesday evening. Prof. Shockcy has agreed to come and deliver a series of lectures upon his doctrine as soon as convenient. Browxville, Neb., Oct. 5, 1SGS. Dr. W. II. Kimberlij :Dear Sir : I feel that I am doing a duty In publicly stating the benefit which my son, aged fourteen months, received under youi treatment. Sometime during the month of last August he became afflicted with soreness andlnflamation of the eyes,to such an extent that he could not see. We placed him In your care. The treatment which you prescribed not only effected a com plete cure In a very short time, but was very mild and agreeable, and caused the child no additional pain or suffering. Yours respectfully, J. S. Schexck. To the Ladies. I beg leave to call your at tention to my New and Elegant stock of Fall and Winter Dry Goods, (the last of which I Just received.) My stock now embraces one of the Largest, as w 11 as the Finest, ever brought to this city, and being bought especially for this market, and at the very Bottom Prices, I offer to my patrons the desirable advantage of a large stock to select from, and at Prices which defy competition. Trusting by faii: and liberal dealing to merit a continuance of the liberal patronage thus far extended tome, I respectfully solicit an examination of my stock and prices. . D- MAY, Regulator. See Hetzel'a Advertisement in another column. Mr. Hetzell has now on hand un doubtedly one of the largest stocks of Cloth ing, Boots, Shoes, Hats, Caps and Gent's Fur nishing Goods ever brought up the Missouri river to any point With his facilities for getting goods he cannot be undersold. The stock on hand was made up under his especial supervision, from the goods purchased by him from the factory, and he has his connec tion with New York so complete that he can buy lower than any other man that we know of In the West, and will get always the latest styles In vogue in the East. Give him a call. Brown ville. Neb., Oct. 5th, '6S. Mr. Editor: In reading the 'Journal' of last week, I notice an article headed "Beer Is not Intoxicating." I think he must have been under the Influence of Bitters, as he seemed to talk very bitter of his German friends. It seems to me that a paper so dependent for Its support upon the Germans, had better be a little more quiet. If you wish to 6lur the Germans, do it In a proper way, don't throw slane. You certainly have not been to the butcher shop lately. Temperence Is a good thing, and of two evils It seems to me he had bet ter choose the least, let Beer Saloons alone until he has cleaned out Whisky Shops. Hog Disease. Last Monday morning our city butchers. Kelswetter & Eirsman, killed a hor. which, upon being cut up, disclosed in numerable worms, In the fat and In the lean, all throuirh It. The worms were about the size of a grain of wheat, and seemed imbed ded In the meat, and when picked out leaving a cavity, showing that they had grown right there. The hog looked perfectly well when killed, showing no Indication of disease whatever. To the credit of Messrs. Kels wet ter & Erlsman we must say that as soon as they discovered the condition cf the meat they immediately slopped Its sale and called In all the meat sold. Charley was sold about as bad, If not worse than any one else, as early In the morning he sent some of the meat to his own boarding boose, and made a hearty breakfast off of it before he made the discovery. Our farmers should look out. and f anything more is discovered should make the facts known so that a remedy may be i'juuu u possible.
