A, J. Riiter, Republican nominee for Com missioner, called on us last Monday, looking none the worse for the Infliction which the Republicans of this county are determined he6hall bear of acting as Commissioner for three years. He is a gentleman well fitted for the position, as he has shown a financial ability In building up a business In St. De roin equal to any In the county. Spendid Game We were shown last Fri day evening as noble a deer as it has ever been our pleasure to see, which had b:en killed that afternoon on Honey creek in this county, by our sporting townsman, Wm. Ros- sell. It Is the largest game of the kind that has been killed in this county for many a year, having seven points. Air. Hosneli is entitled to the appelation of king of the cha.se, and has nobly won the honor. See the New Advertisement of Wm. Allen, City Baker and Confectioner, In to-day's pa per. The Pole Railing, last Saturday, was a success; yet owing to tne lateuouroi getting it in position, no out-door demonstration was attempted. It stands 156 feet from the ground up, and Is the longest pole so far raised In Nebraska. . The cannon was let off several times by the Republican Gun Squad. Groat credit Is due the workman, Messrs. Kneffer, Wheeler, Berger and Neely, for their untiring energy In getting it up, and to Thad, Trim mer for managing the whole affair from first to last. Peaches Last Monday we were the re cipient of a very pleasant favor from W. H. Hawley, of Lafayette Precinct, in the shape of alout a peck of Nebraska Seedling Peaches. They were as fine as any we ever saw, and exceeded or seemed to, at least in taste any wc ever ate. Mr. Hawley has quite an or chard of this fruit. We have seen many samples of Nebraska Seedling reaches this season, and all indicate that NeVafka, or at least this portion of it, will yet be one of the great Peacli section. Brownville, Sept, 11, 1863. Edilmi Xcbraska Advertiser: With reference to your notice of the road to London, in this county, I would say that many of us residing in the vicinity like yourself, thought that there ought to be a road leading south from there, and therefore petitioned the County Court to appointa viewer to survej' and locate a road on the section line between sections fifteen and six teen. The road has been surveyed and loca ted as above, and will be opened as soon as the law admits of Its being done. Yours truly, H. O. MINICK. HETZEI Negro Supremacy. Few Republicans can realize why rebels and copperheads should 6o dread negro supremacy. We thought It but an idle cry for political effect unt il we heard of an Incident which transpired in Scott City a few days since, In which a reb realized it It appears that Geo. McCleery, the worst rebel in Atchison county, Is blacking boots for a living. Negro Bill Democratic negro one day drove up and asked George to black his boots, which the chivalrous champion of the lost cause' and desplser of the negro, very obligingly did, and. Just as he was putting on the finishing touch. Bill drove off, leaving the copperhead minus an equivalent for his labor, and proving the Democratic fear of negro supremacy' well grounded.
