Washington, D. C, Dec. 11. The National Republican Executive Commiitee met at noon to-day. All the members were present in person or by proxy, except those from Michgan, Kan sas and West Virginia. A proposition was submitted to change the came to the National Union Conventon, but after some ducussicn it was withdrawn, all the members agreeing that the change was not advisable. The time for holding the convention was fixed on the 20th of May, cnly'six members voting for a later dsy, say the middle of July or first c f July. Cincinnati and Indianapolis were represented by special committees. St. Louis was urired by Missouri Con- C men. rnJ the advantages of Chicago were set forth in a letter signed by sev eral leading citizens of that place Horace Greeley strongly urged that Cin cinnatti should be selected. "Tb& firs ballot resulted: Chicago 8, Cincinnati 6, Indianapolis 5, St. Louis 3. Second ballot the came. Third and' fourth bal lots : Chicago 10, Cincinnati 6 St. Louis and Indianapolis 3 each. On the nun ballot Chicago received 12, Cincinnati 10. The vote in favor of Chicago was then made unanimous, and the committee adiourned. eubiect to the call o me j - . Chairman. Hog Market. Latest advices from St Louis report the market for hogs a little more firm than it has been for the past two weeks. The market is well stocked and prices are but little higher than are offered in Saint Joseph. In Chicago, this season, up to the 15ih inst, the receipts of hogs were 707,225, of which number 455,241 had been pack ed against 335,346 received and 101,- 000 packed for a corresponding; period last year. The hog market in Cincinnati at last advices was much demoralized. Packers were standing off, and drovers were mak ing preparations to pack on their own ac count. Only about 8,000 head were re ceived in that city on the IGth inst. The recipts in this cityj continue stea dy, averaging about 2,000 head per day with prices ranging from- S4,50 to $5,75 the latter only for extra choice. retrolcam Y. Post Orris, Confedeit X Roads, (wich is in the Stait uv Kentucky) November 25, 1567 Last week I reseved from Postmaster Randall the follerin breef note: Washington, Nov. 25, 1S67. "Sia The tener uv offis act duz not 4 ii i tit sneeia you irom removal, w ood it not be well for you to declare your prefer ence for the Presidency ? It is my opin ion, that President Johnson could be in duced to accept the nomin&shum. "A. W. Randall, P. M. G. "To P, V. Nasby, P. M. Confedrit X Roads." To this Petroleum replies: That he is for "Androo" of coarse, and he wil so express himself in one of the Presi dent's organs. He gives the following I'iUlUiUaik II ii J UVUUUJf CISC should be nominated by the Democracy : 1. Ther are other reasons, but these are sufficient. Let us put konto the ticket with him Henry Clay dean, and the ar rangement is complete. I shall sign it thus, so that in case any other man succeeds, the authorship kin be denied. Petroleum V. P. M., (which is Postmaster.) The Christian Times and IVitness. of Chicago, says : "It is an established fact that advertising is the great lever of business. Those who have been success ful, as a general rule, have most exten sively availed themselves of this aid. There is philosophy in ihi, as well as practictal good sense. The consumer must be informed where to find the arti cles he is in search of, and he naturally joofcs to tne columng of the newspaper for this information. It saves him & world of trouble, for without this resource, he would be compeled to resort to a personal inspection of the stores ana fiiops ot the citv.
