I Nebraska - SUfocrttsct -..';- A JOHN I.. COI.IIAPP.KDITOH. 2 BROWNVILLE THURSDAY, ALU. 17 1535. Jo Mr. B. Wilson, Lake county, IJ , . We .;ouUlhx good selection of Grii- . ment Land can be had within Uven.y miles of ihe river,, and in few instance .will thit.be more than from three to rive mile from limber, and claims can yet be had joining on considerable bodies of timber. Th? soil i. rich, and splendiJIv watered by creeks and springs. The most rnccessful crop is corn, for which there ; is always a good market in the goid-btar-" irig regions west. Any other crop ; de- sanding a rich, loamy soil will d well )ere, though not so ready sale a3 com. Fruil we think will do well in this sec- - lion, but as yet it has not been thorough ly tested. Timber land, we believe, lack from the river, is lating at from eight to twelve dul'ars au acre. Cows are selling at from twenty-five to forty dollars; work cattle, four year old, from one hundred and ten to one hundred 1 '-'and thirty dollars, per yoke ; horses from one lo two hundred dollars. A parly of Missourians came to our city last Monday, captured and conveyed into Missouri Robert Thompson. We hear it said that the charge against him was horse-stealing, but of this we know nothing, audit matters not, the main fact is that ibis manner of making ar rests no matter how criminal the per son so kidnapped may be is illegal and ! an outrage to this Territory. This is ..the third interference of this kind f roirt that side of the river. The first was ; in 57, and legalized by that instrument 5 of Satan the "Fugitive Slave Law;" the second was in '62, when Toba Hand ley was' murdered by a party of Mis sourians ; and this last instance. Now, t. i in none of these instances have cur citi- zens attempted to demand the obedience 4and respect due our laws from outsiders, and here are three precedents for kid napping and murder in our Territory. .We think it is about time such outrages were put a stop to by our officers for it is aa outrage upon our laws, our rights arid our. self-respect no matter who. or '...how crinrnal, the kidnapped person may i be.
