B. P. RiNKiN, Of Sarpy: County.- V;0'J TEE lTEW. VOLTJHE OUE COUESE.t The readers or the jffADYErwTiSEii" doubtless look for, at least the outlines of our course the coming year.. Prin cipally, it will be the samein the future, as in the past, viz: a constant effort to build up, sustain and advance the iri- . tcrests of our City and county - first, and next, the Territory of Nebraska. We have labored faithfully the "past . year 'to bring them into notice to get Eastern eyes turned in this direction. We feel quite confident the! evidences of-success as to this, are abundantly before us. We feci too, equally to'n- . "fidenMhat there are growing evil37 in our midst those Calculated, "if not checked, to result eventually Jn great injury to our Cityy. County and Terri- - tory. . We refer particularly to the'ex travagant prices of property, and the speculative spirit and feeling abroad; of these we shall in" a future ' article speak in detail and at length'.- .fin re; gard to our city; whenever we find & remisness in enterprise, we shall 'en . deavor respectfully to point it out and offer our suggestions for what ! they arc worth, of course as to 'the better plans of operations, &c. :.. ". " ' . .. Now for the feature in our course in the future different from the past, viz: politically. In accordance with agreement, the past year we have been neutral in politics. We now step into the political arena. In so doing, how ever, we promise that our course shall be such an one as 'to preserve the re spect and confidence of even our political opponents. We shall endeavor to sustain our positions by sound reason ing and argument; should we fail thus, we prefer rather "to fall, than resort to a species of trickery, truckling and low toned abuse of men and principles', adopted by many political sheets of all parties. If the principles advocated by a party mean anything, they loose nothing by candid investigation.. Men : honestly differ in opinion as to matters of policy. An honest comparrison of these differences, with a desire to ar rive at the right, cannot fail to result beneficially. . Honestly believing that the princi . pies advocated by the Democratic party arc best calculated to advance the in terests and prosperity of our country, we shall labor to diffuse, build up and prescrre them unsullied. - - . We may be asked our opinion, or ' position on the great and leading ques tion so much discussed and . talked . about now days throughout the length and breadth of our land, ; viz: the Slavery question. Did 'we deem the question at all at issue in Nebraska, wc could now enter fully and freely into it. .But as that point is. perfect ly settled no difference of opinion- all, without a dissenting yoice, admit and desire that Nebraska will and shall bo " a Free State, we consider it a waste of .time and space to open out1 on that subject. We will say, however, that wc are decidedly opposed to any more slave Territory; and were tho issue cfore us, should labor with.. all the 7ower God has given us to make Ne braska a Free State. Now wc have spoken as plain on , this point, as YC can find language to express our views. But understand us fully. We do not visli by any reans tcrbir-clafsedas an "riboIiiloi.ist,"; or a .Ilepublican' in the sense they arc generally ujed in the nolitical wcrld.'--Tre view tl;? sub- ject as one, not of ccliic3, or of poll-' tics," but simply" a matter of industry and interest pecuniary interest of the owners of ; the soil; We believe jrhen the ' questioiTof Slavery is ' presented Jtftnc, American: people iii.thisLliglit there will be no difficulty in prevent ing the, further, xtensiQiTf "Slavo ter ritory or even abolishing slavery' Where it -alreadjrexists; ith7htrp7th,e'ex ception , of .extreme- SoulKetrv' States.' Of the particulars we forbear speaking at present, as the matter will probably undergo' i legal 'iHybstigation. The whole diniculty and result is one to be regreted exceedingly. ; We' felt 'quite sure when we saw. the matter assuming the shape it did,- in our streets & few evenings before the fataL result, that the end would bejust-' about as ' itK has turned out. We udvised and plead tor a different mode of adjusting matters. Whenever, menV cuV themselves loose from law in this or. any other couLtry, and attempt to settle matters in their own way, serious consequences follow. We have laws for every imaginable offence or-grievance, and it becomes us as good citizens to settle all our differences '; and J difficulties by those laws, and cheerfully abide decisions under them. Our Pre-emption laws are as plain as the" nose on a man's face,' and when' differences1 arise under them, they are easily settled; and no other mode should be resortd to. ..This unfortunate occurrence is the firsttoat ever transpired inthis'county, and we pray it may be'- last--we hope it may prove a lesson for the future. We have boasted of our peace and harmony in claim, matters, and attributed it very properly to our observance of the law. Let'us not sully our fair reputa tion at home and abroad, by following the example of some other points in this Territory and Kansas in regard to settling claim difficulties. ; . -vi Judge Black, the newly, appointed Judge for this Judicial District, arriv ed in this city yesterday, and is now hold ing his .Courte The Judge expresses j himself delighted with the appearence ot our city and county. : W e trust he may find time to give them a more, thorough examination.
