The democrats have been having
their inning In unseating' ineumlents

the house. In the eurly days of the
olst congress, when the republicans
had a alight majority which they de

vit and dispatch. It was in those days

whether or no. and when the dem
ocrats who crowded into the cloak
rooms to avoid voting came in sight
again on the floors, lo and behold, an
other of their number had boan swept
out of his seat. All last week the dem
ocrats were trying to oust the repub
lican?. Somehow or other it is very
hard to pet a democratic quorum
these days, and the speaker persist
ently refuses, despite the bribes of Mr,
Reed, to count the republicans as they
calmly remain in their seats and say
neither yea nor nay. Sueaker Crisp lias
had enough worry to make him res
pectably hoary headed when he takes
his seat among the salons of the upper
house.

Mansqitax, N. J., April 12. The furi
ous gales and high tides which prevailed
here Twsdaj night and Wednesday have
left their mark all along the Jersey
coast. Along the Jersey Central railroad
to Tom's river, the high tides have done
enormous damage, and the sea has over
flowed the shore and formed little lakes
for a considerable distance. The beach,
far down tin- coast is strewn with wreck
age, in the luMglit and tury ot the
storm, the three-masted schooner Albert
W. Smith was driven ashore at a ioiiit
inidwav between Seabright and Manh
attan. In less than half an hour after
the vessel struck she was pounded into
kindling wood. Eight men. it is said.
composed the crew of the Smith, not one
of whom has fieen seen since their boat
was wrecked, and it is unlikely that any
man of the crew has survived.

Dalton's, in Oklahoma.

Denver, April 12. Captain W. L.
Grayson, who started out with Bert
Hamilton's silver legion, and deserted in
disgust, is organizing an armj' hero to
join the California crowd. The captain,
who served in the British army, is con
vinced, that the Coxey movement, if
backed by honest workingmen, will be
productive of good. He says a wealthy
Populist has offered to give 10,00() to
the travelers as soon as Kelly's army ar
rives from Utah.

Kirkapoos Refuse to Select Laud.

Only 12 more days remain in which the
Kickapoos can volantarily take their
allotments. There are about 100 who
refuse to select lands. The proposal of
Secretary Hoke Smith to sell the lands
remaining after all of allotments are
made is bitterly opposed by every resi
dent of Oklahoma.
