Chicago, April 26.- A Loudon cablegram received hrre announces shipment of seventeen cases of ex hibits, including- Rocket, (ieor btcveusou's first locomotive, for dis play at the exhibition, which opens here May 24th. In addition to the niHiii exposition building, the man agement has constructed a temporary building on Lake Front, making the structure five blocks in length taken altogether. Among the novelties will oe an eicctnc railroad, the llrst one operated in this country. JAILED FOR CONTEMPT. Jeffekson City, Mo., April 26 James . Morrison, justice of the United States circuit court, ordered J. A. Lockhart and J. A. I'rather, judges of the Laflyeile county court. to jail lor contempt, in refusing to levy a special tax of 2.000 to pay an installment on a judgement obtained in a suit for county bonds. The couu ty offered to compromise the bouds at 80 cents on the dollar, at which rate $1,700,000 of its bonded debt had been compromised, but the holder of the judgment refuses io take less than one hundred cents. The court-order ed the judges confined iu jail until they obey its mandate. TERIUIiLE EARTH QT A KE. 1 anama, April 16 March 7th. Mh, and 9th earthquake shocks weie felt in Chili. March 8th an earthquake shock was felt throughout Columbia. In the town of Antiqua the facade of the cathedral was thr.n t.ut of plumb, many of its columns over turned, and all houses suffered more or less. In Santa Ro.a a church sta ple was injured, and a number of houses rendered uninhabitable. In Yarumah the prison and thirty-five houses were dostioyed. In Aquadas the town hall was demolished, and at Abejirrat a church and several houses injured. In Penagona, the chief vil lage of the Darien territory, many palm hats were thrown down, and rivers rose and fell with alarming rapidity. Lake -Niearaugua was inter rupted for the first time in history. THE IRISH NATIONAL CONVENTION. A plot among the soldiers of the fonr'h battallion of Mexican infantry, to kill their officers and desert to Texas, was discovered last Sunday and frustrated. Some mutineers escaped and are still at large, but nobody was hurt. PHCENIX PARE: TRIALS. Dublin, April 20. Ten of the ju rors on the second trial of Tim Kel ley were in favor of returning a verdict against the prisoner of guilty as charged in the indictment. The trial of Michael Pagan, charged with the murder of Iiurke, was re sumed today. James Smith, informer. ssvore that Edward M. Caffrey wa.s in Phoenix Park on tho evening of May 6. James Carv. however, denied that he saw Caffrey there that evening. Tho counsel for the defense regard the conflict between the two statements as important. Kelley will be placed on trial Mon day next. If the jurors do not agree on a verdict then, lie will be tried again. THE CATTLE DISEASE. London, Abril 20, Lord Carling ford, lord president of the council and minister of agriculture, yesterday re ceived a deputation headed by the Duke of" Richmond, which came to confer on the subject of the foot and mouth disease among cattle. Lord Carlingford said tbey only asked for p. geneial prohibition of lauding stock in .cngiana. The department was only prepared to use its powers wher needed.
