The nominations are spoken of aa Ltiii excellent in every particular. The ticket is called the "Reform ticket. Judge Kugene Carey, the can didate for mayor, is conceded by all parties to be a strong nomination. A ihspatch says that the Prince of Wiilea exacts constant and u.-iduous att 'tnlance of his household, but, at the same time, is very considerate of their welfare; also, that he never opens a book or reads a newspaper, but de pends on his bright, clevtr officers to kei'p hi :n accurately informed. That there is a nettled and deep-seated distrust existing be tween the laboring and producing elates of this country, and capital, must be admitted by every observ ant, thoughtful student of events; a settled leeling of discontent and uu easiness which has been slowlv but surely taking po$cs.siou of the mas fits; this ieehng, or prejudice, (diall wt call it? n itur.illy looks for an an tagonist; U is aggressive in its very nature; it looks, and it beholds capi tal rapidly aecumu biting in the hands of the few. This is a natiou of some fifty mil lions of human beings, all engaged in solving the great problem of brcai and butter. This new continent with its grand lakes and rivers, its fertile valleys, its mountain range?, rich with ores and precious metals, has opened up a wonderful field for the achievement of every ambition which takes possession of the soul of the in dividual in the life race; the iudivid nal taking advantage of this field, finds tho only limit to what he may accomplish, is that whb-h the Creator has placed upon l.iin in the bestow ineut of mental ami physical powers; bending ail his energies in a given di rection, he is seen outstripping the inses, and standing upon the dizzy heights of power, which to the plod der beneath his feet, is beyond the very clouds. Especially to those, am bmous to amass great wealth, does this country furnish boundless facili ties; our mountain ranges teeming with precious metals accessible only to the capitalist; our system of Amer ican railways and telegraph lines, with their laud grants, and subsidies, have been voraciously seized upon by the shrewd, unscrupulous specu la tor, and money king, wherebv fab ulous and colossal fortunes, have been in a moment, as it were, amassed, and thereby a few individuals enabled to place the hand of greed upon the very throat of American industries. The masses seeing their peril, are ngi tatod, alarmed; the continual eu- j croachmeuts of capi tal, stealthily tak ing advaulage of its every opportuni ty, is attracting the attention of the ablest writers upon questions of po litical economy, the "Papers" of Mr. Ileury George, Prof. Sumner and others, aro-among the recent contri butions upon this topic; that this feeiiug ol distrust on the part of la bor towards capital can ever be eradi cated so long as human nature exists, no one wili conteud, but that this ir repressible conflict between labor and capital docs exist in our social and po. lilieal fabric, and that it is dailv increasing in threatening propor tions, To one c in deny.
