irhf JULY 29, 1904. the Commoner. 11 SWEEPING STRIKE ORDER On application made by the attor neys for the Cudahy, Swift, Armour and Omaha packing companies, Judge W. H. Munger of the United States court at Omaha July 20, issued a tem porary restraining order against the former employes of these packing houses who are now on a strike. This order is saldto he "one of the most comprehensive documents of its kind ever issued by the United States court for the Omaha district. The Omaha World-Herald referring to the order says: "It restrains the men from the threats, intimidations, acts of violence, etc., and further restrains them from congregating in greater numbers than two, from picketing, stopping or per suading not to work those who wish to go to work in the packing plants, and also from visiting the homes of the workers for the purpose of in timidating their families. "The petition recites at great length the allegations of the packers. It states that the strikers congregute in large crowds day and night for the purpose of preventing non-union men from going to work m the packing plants. These crowds are declared to vary from 300 to 1,600 men at a time. The usual methods of picketing, stop ping and persuading the non-union workers are described. It is also alleged that the strikers are prevent ing union men, who have grown tired of the strike, from returning to work. The petition declares that many per son not belonging to the unlon3 and who have not been employes of the packing plants, have associated them selves with the strikers for the pur pose of intimidating and committing acts of violence. "It is alleged in the petition that 200 union men on the night of July 15 stopped a freight car and forced non-union men to leave the car, stat ing that unless they did so their lives would be taken. Several other in stances of alleged violence and intimi dation are cited. "The text of the restraining order is as follows: "And all other members of said un ions and persons associated with them, whose names are to tne complainants unknown and each of you, as indi viduals, and as members of the several unions or lodges above set forth, and THE FOUR-TRACK - NEWS An Illustrated Magazine of Travel and Education.
