Observations Quadrifocal -glasses are now available. It is said they enable a person to stand in the middle of the week and look both ways for Sunday. These days a high town is one that has everything the city has except traffic jams. By the Way ... We admire a polarr bear in that although He often takes a cold bath, he never brags about it. Sin has many forms, but they all grow from the seed of selfish ness. 1 ! By A. C. Gordon You Are the Detective The beautiful young, secretary, Betty #Martin, has been murdered, shot through the head. After checking carefully through her background, you learn that she had recently been lured into a group of notorious society crooks. The idea of traveling in such fast company had at last appealed to the thrill-seeking girl, but lately she had been regretting her asso ciation and had threatened to quit. One of the gang, fearful that Betty would expose them, had shot her. With the help of the police, you succeed in apprehending the five members of the gang—Margaret Simpson, Alice Frater, Sam Cole man, Bert Thompson and Dave Winters—and then you study the information you have managed to collect on them. One of these persons is highly skilled at cards and has made lots of money by enticing certain so ciety people into poker games. Bert Thompson was formerly a bookmaker, and had recently tried to persuade the card shark to gc into a gambling business with Your Sports Round-up By James Sawyer Tom Carodine is reported to have been signed by the Cleveland Browns. The former mayor of Boys Town brief college career was here at the University of Ne braska. Tom was an outstanding performer for the San Diego Ma rines during the past season. Carodine, providing he gets a dis charge, may be the “sleeper" among the coming season’s pro fessional rookies. Fifteen Negro stars were se lected in the National Football League’s annual draft of college players. The Chicago Bears led with four. Among those selected by the Bears was William Ander son, adopted son of comedian Eddie (R Chester) Anderson. Weiland Tarpley won the ban tamweight title in the Regional Golden Gloves meet at the Fair grounds last Saturday night. | Tarpley scored a first round TKO him, but the card player had de clined because he didn’t like Thompson and didn’t trust him. Although Dave Winters and the card shark disJiked each other, they worked together very' smoothly in all activities of the gang. Margaret Simpson had been I heard to remark that one of the members of the gang had shot Betty Martin, not only beca’ ~e j she knew too much, but also be j cause of jealousy. Margaret Simp lon also was heard to say that the card shark, enamoured of Betty, had pleaded with the mur- | derer, who was a very good friend, nol to shoot the secretary. Now, with this information be fore you, can you put your finger on the actual murderer? | SOLUTION You car* see that the card shark is not Bert Thompson nor Dave Winters—and, therefore, he is j Sam Coleman. You also know, that Margaret Simpson is not the killer, and since the card shark! (Sam Coleman) had begged the; murderer who was a very close friend of his, then the murderer j could not have been Thompson or Winters, but must have beenj ! In the dual meet, Nebraska’s Bob Fairchild finished third in the 160-yard dash. Thane Baker, Big Seven sprint champion and Olym-. I pic star, was the event winner.
