C. Brooks were Mr. and Mrs. Willard Smith, Sr., and family of Kansas City, Kan. They arrived on Saturday and remained in the city until Wednesday. • • • Recent houseguests of Mrs. Birdie Artis were her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Col quith Yancy of Bryan, Tex. They left Wednesday. Mr. Yancy is a principal in the public school sys tem there and his wife is a teacher. They were also guests of Mrs. Yancy’s brother, E. B. PowellJ Miss Freddie L. Powell left Sunday after spending several weeks at home on vacation. She returned to Omaha to start work at University Hospital. * * * Ralph L. Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Wilson, arrived home' on Thursday to spend about thirty i days after spending 20 months in Japan. ♦ * * Quinn Chapel Church and Sun day School will have a picnic on Sunday, August 23rd, in Antelope Park at 3 p.m. All members are invited to bring their lunch bas kets and join the fun. ^ 1 Motoring to Beatrice, Neb., on Sunday, August 9th, were the Rev. and Mrs. M. After the ceremonies the} r~~,M "■ Wm Beach Dies; Railroad Steward William Beach, 65, 2438 So. 9th, Burlington railroad steward, died at a local hospital Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Quinn Chapel AME Church, Rev. J. B. Brooks officiating. Mr. Beach had been a Lincoln resident since March 1944. He was a member of the Quinn Chapel Church. He was born July 11, 1887, in Meadville, Mo., son of Mary and Willis Beach, and was reared in that town. He worked with hotels and rail roads in Nebraska and Missouri as a young man. Surviving are his wife, Camille; a son, Cornelius, Lincoln; four sisters, Nancy Beach, Mrs. Hattie Gillespie and Mrs. Dorothy Roberts, all of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Eva Warfield, Laclede, Mo.; a brother, Henry of St. Louis; four nephews and two nieces. were the guests of the Rev. and Mrs. M. L. Shakespeare. * * * i Mrs. Dorothy Lewis was hostess at a luncheon held on Wednesday .with four persons sharing honors. They were: Mrs. Lillian Mims, Mrs. Hoffman, Miss Kathryn Thompson and Mrs. Mollie Lank ford. Guests present were Mrs. Sara Walker, Mrs. Wilma Todd, Mrs. Anna Page, Mrs. Mary Scott, Mrs. Evelyn Irving. Mrs. Lee Dean, Mrs. Loretha Shepard, Mrs. Marie Copeland and Mrs. Sarah Simms. Mrs. Lewis’ son, Paul, en tertained Mrs. Mims’ grandson and granddaughter. __I Joseph L. Dunn, 321 So. 20th, Dies Joseph L. Dunn, 44, of 321 So. 20th, died Saturday afternoon. He had lived in Lincoln since 1943. , Mr. Dunn was a member of Quinn Chapel Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge of Hutch inson, Kan. Surviving are his wife, Ellamae E.; two daughters, Mrs. Edgar [Jones of Hutchinson, Kan., and Mrs. Bufford Boswell of McPher son, Kan.; mother, Mrs. Anna Dunn of Hutchinson, Kan., and a brother, John Thomas Dunn of Hutchinson, Kan. Funeral services were held [ Tuesday, August 19th at the church with the Rev. J. B. Brooks r in charge.
