Social Briefs *j Word was received that Mr. Wm. Perkins is a patient at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha, Ne braska. Mrs. John Adams left several days ago to spend a few months in California with friends and relatives. Mrs. M. L. Shakespeare was among special guests of the Elm Park Methodist Church on Wed nesday, February, 13th Mrs. Mari etta Snow, a foreign language in structor at Wesleyan University was guest speaker. She spoke on her recent trip to Germany. Visiting in the c‘ty from Be atrice Sunday were the Rev. and Mrs. Alfred Newton and Mrs. Otis Washington and Mrs. Leia Becks and her daughter,. Mrs. Louise Patterson. The Rev. R. G. Nathan, pastor of Newman Methodist Church is confined to his home due to ill ness. Mrs. Ruth Patterson entertained two of her fellow students at her home on Wednesday evening, February 13th. They were Miss Frances Miller and Miss Robbie Lee Powell. Mr. and Mrs George Alexandra are the proud parents of a baby girl born February 15th. Mrs. Alexandra is the former Phyllis Holcomb. Gets Job On Ag Campus Miss Charlotte Jackson has ac cepted a position with the child, development department of the. University of Nebraska on the Agt College campus. Miss Jackson is doing clerical work. Rev. J. B. Brooks spent a couple of days in Kansas City, Kan., last week. He attended a meeting at Trinity AME Church. Also at tending the meeting were Rev. and Mrs. Alfred Newton of Beatrice, Nebraska. I The Urban League Brownie Troop 17, of which Miss Robbie Lee Powell is leader was enter tained at a party on Friday by Miss Dorothy Green. Games were' played and enjoyed by all. Mrs. Mary Giveband and her two children, Jane and Luther Jr., spent a few days with her sister, Mrs. Donald Stith recently. Miss Clara Bell Scott of Omaha, Nebraska spent Saturday and Sun-1 day as guest of her sister, Betty,' who is a student at Nebraska Uni. I Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mabin and their two children, Ruthie and Margaret Ann, of St. Joseph, Missouri, are the house guests of Mrs. Doris Young. Notice that Booker McDaniels was in the city for the games. You will remember Booker as a former Lincolnite. * * * Quinn Chapel Youth have or ganized into a group they call “The Crusaders.” At a recent meeting officers were elected: Mattie Sue Nevels, president, Bea trice Napue, vice-president, Skippy ; King, secretary, Robert Botts, as sistant secretary and treasurer. Mays, who recently passed his physical examination for the Armed Forces, said he would re main with the team until he is; ^ordered to report for industion. Lets use It up: Coffee Float Vi cup sugar, 2 cups water, dash salt, V tbsps. instant coffee, 1 pint vanilla ice cream, carbonated water. Combine sugar, water, and salt. Simmer 5 minutes. Dissolve coffee in hot liquid. Cool thoroughly. Pour into 4 tall glasses Mix a tbsp. icecream with coffee mixture in each glass. Fill almost I to top with carbonated water. Slip a scoop of ice cream in each. Brazilian Fluff 1 envelope unflavored gelatine, Vi cup cold water, Vi cup hot water, Vi cup sugar, 1 cup hot milk, 1 tbsp. instant coffee, 1 cup heavy cream, whipped. Vi cup, toasted, slivered almonds, Vi tsp. vanilla. Soften gelatine in cold water; dissolve in hot water. Melt sugar in heavy skillet over low heat till clear and medium brown. Remove from heat. Add milk. Stir over low heat until lumps dis solve. Add milk mixture and in stant coffee to gelatine. Chill till partially set; beat until frothy. Fold in whipped cream, almonds, and vanilla, spoon into serving dishes. Chill. Garnish with whole almonds. Serves 6. Coffee Chiffon Pie 1 envelope unflavored gelatine, Vi cup cold water, Vi cup sugar, 1 tbsp. instant coffee, 3 well beaten egg yolks, 1 cup water, Vi tsp. salt, 3 stiff-beaten agg whites Vz cup sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1 10 inch baked pie shell. Soften gelatine in cold water. Sift together Vi cup sugar and coffee beat into egg yolks. Gradually stir in water and salt. Cook over boiling water 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Add gelatine; stir until dissolved. Chill till mixture slightly thickens. Gradually beat remaining Vi cup sugar into egg whites. Stirr in vanilla. Fold into coffee gelatine. Pour into baked 10 inch pie shell. Chill. Garnish with walnuts. Remove from heat. Add vanilla. Beat until mixture is of spreading consistency.
