I Social Briefs ] at Oori.Hi> C.rr«i / Mr. and Mrs. Sam Smith, daughters and nephew of Hanni bal, Missouri were the weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs. Stephan Anderson to see their grandson. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Byron Cruse and family, Miss Grace Foster, Mr. Fred Foster and Mr. Virgil Cruse of White Cloud, Kansas spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ho bert Botts. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Stephan Ander son are the proud parents of a son, Kevin Leshan, born October 23rd Mrs. Anderson is the former Evelyn Botts. * * * Mr. Hobert Botts and Mrs. Sam Anderson left for White Cloud, Kansas Friday due to the illness of their father. * * * Rev. Wm I. Monroe was in Cheyenne, Wyo., recently. During his absence the Rev. Melvin L. Shakespeare was guest speaker it Mt. Zion Baptist church. * * * A Fall piano recital was held in the studio of Mrs. Edith Hill on Sunday. Among her students presented in the recital were, Amelia Ellen Posey, Jackie Lintz, Patricia Johnson, Gwen Bowler, Unita Delores Wimes, Charles Baker, Willene Letcher. Parents and other guests were present for the recital. I Charlene Colbert has returned; to Lincoln after spending severU weeks with her mother. * * * Girl scout troop 26 was hostess, at the Annual Father Daughter Box Social sponsored by the Girl £ Scotts of Lincoln at the Lincoln ( Urban League. Guest troops w~re { from Belmont and Whittier. Two ^ girls from Troop 26 received 5 ^ year pins they were Marlene j Copeland, daughter of Mr. and j Mrs. Maurice Jopeland and Jo-jj Ann Botts, daughter of Mr. and j Mrs. Raymond Botts. j Carolin Platt, executive direc- c tor of Girls Scouts and Mrs. A. C. r Wehr, program chairman also participated. ^ The Brownie Troop 17 was also a participant of the social. They presented a skit built around the ( things they have done this fall. * * * Mrs. Corene Keeler had a num ber of models styling the latest in hair fashions at the Lincoln' Urban Leaue Friday evening. Among models were, Clintona Smith, Mrs. Rogers and daughter ' Carolyn Joyce Williams and Sandra Qualls, Robbie Powell was at the p; ’no. * * * The U jan League Girls Glee club held its rehearsal at the home of Shirley Conrad on Fri i day November 9th. The club is preparing to present the Operetta /‘Sleeping Beauty.” Following the I rehearsal they gave a Sadie Haw ikins Party. Persons present were: Beatrice Napue. Virgil Napue, Phil Anderson, Phil Whitemon, Arnold Tarpley, Ken neth Dorsey, Arnold Walker, Jonathan McWilliams, Clarence Brown, Exton Moffett and Skip pie King. * * * Celebrates Birthday ! i Llewellan “Butch” Bowler celebrated his fourth birthday on October 31st., with a party. The party was from 1.30-3:00 p.m. 1 Guests present were Mattie and Louise Milton, Kieth and Leslie Kimbrough, Steward Russell anl Roderick Shepherd, Patty Ann I Jackson, Janice Elaine Kelley,! Robert Whitemon and Rodney Molden. Refreshments were ice cream and cake. Butch received many lovely gifts. Beckett Elected Alderman LOUISVILLE — (ANP) — W. W. Beckett, 40 year old funeral director, became the first Negro Democrat elected to office in a city-wide race when returns came in from last week’s election here. Beckett’s election to the Board of Alderman assured an all Democratic board, and markec the second time a colored mar had been elected in a city-wid* election. A 15 pounder will serve 12 gener ously. Before stuffing, remove pin feathers with tweezers, and if feathery, singe over flame. Wash inside and out under cold running water. Drain thoroughly and dry well. Allow about one cup of stuffing to one pound of bird. Stuff lightly so theer will be room for swelling. Stuff neck cavity, then secure by folding skin under and attach it to the bask with a skewer. Secure the large opening by sewing up with a soft thread or sticking toothpicks across open ing and lacing with a soft twine. Tie legs together firmly and fasten to tal. j Place turkey breast side up in a shallow roasting pan. Brush the whole bird with butter or mar garine. Then soak three pieces of cheese cloth — (enough to wrap both legs and cover breast)—in more melted fat. Place in pre heated oven (325 F). Baste right through the cheese cloth at least a half dozen times during roasting. Cooking time—15 minutes per lb. or 4 Vi to 5 hours. Roast uncov ered. Stuffing Bread stuffing—4 cups dry bread cubes 2 tablespoons chopped onion — 1 teaspoon salt y4 teaspoon pepper—y4 teaspoon poundtry seasoning. Vi cup melted butter, hot water or stock to moisten Sage to taste.—Combine bread, being elected to the Board of Al uerman. He was unsuccessful in 1945. Toss gently to mix.—Or try—Oyster stuffing as follows Vz cup chopepd celery—Vz cup chopped onion—Va cup butter 6 cups dry bread crumbs — 1 tablespoon chopped parsley— 3 cups chopped oysters — 1 bay leaf—salt and pepper— 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning—2 beaten eggs— 134 cups milk and oyster liquor— Cook celery and onion in butter until soft, but not brown. Add crumbs and parsley, milk thor oughly. Add oysters, bay leaf, seasonings, and eggs. Add enough liquid to moisten. If you can’t afford a turkey, serve— Mincemeat Pie 1 pound can mincemeat—2 cups thinly sliced apples. Vz teaspoon grated lemon peel— 2 tablespoons lemon juice. Combine minemeat,, apples lemon peel, and juice, heat thor oughly. Pour into 9 inch pastry lined pie pan, adjust top crust.
