Memory Selection —- Have we not all one father? Have not one God created us? Malachi 2:10. Present Day Application By Frederick D. Jordan Los Angeles, Calif. Today the world is called a neighborhood because scientific developments have brought na tions closer together. Science has also recently shown that all men' have the same kind of blood— human blood comes in several types, each type is found in every race. God’s world has always been “one world’’ and men every where the cshildren of one father. Christianity has a distinct program ( and message for peace. It is not] limited by national boundaries.' Selfishness, hatred and a desire' for revenge, greed, and a sense of superiority which feeds race prejudice are the evil tendencies that hinder peaceable living in the world. It is only as men and na tions subject themselves individu ally and collectively to the pro gram of Jesus that peace will come into the world. Buildings Dedicated RICHMOND, Va. iANP)— The Janie Porter Barrett School for. girls at Peake in Hanover county recently dedicated three new | buildings on the campus costing nearly $500,000. However, the school, established to reclaim and educate delinquent Negro girls, still needs additional funds for its increased enrollment and ex panded program. Louise Beavers Replaces Hattie As Beulah HOLLYWOOD—(ANP) — One would think that radio, not having a sufficient number of Negro performers in reserve in case of emergency, would be ii. a difficult position in finding an adequate substitute for a nationally-known favorite who might be forced into inaction — but with the evening time weekly “Beulah” show, that is not the case. Hattie McDaniel, the current “Beulah,” had to take a leave of absence because of illness, but in 1 her place will be another eqjually popular actress of radio and screen fame, Louise Beavers. Miss McDaniel was sidelined by j illness brought on by her strenu ous schedule of making movie versions for the TV airing of the “Beulah” show. We hope she will1 recover soon and know that her' replacement will do justice to the! role. Join Durham Police Force DURHAM, N. C.—(ANP)—Two more Negroes were added to the local police force here last week, making a total of 12 colored po licemen on the rolls. The newcomers, both of whom are ex-servicemen, are Charles' Webb, Jr., formerly a construc tion worker; and Owen Justice, one-time tobacco worker. Two Negro officers are on the inactive list—Otis Parker who is undergoing treatment for a gun shot wound incurred while on duty; and Joe Barnes, who has been ill for some time. r imi n"i Champion to Rest Following Victory NEW YORK (ANP)—A happy Ray (Sugar) Robinson, newly j crowned middleweight champion of the world, declared that he was going to rest for a while be fore returning to the ring again. Wednesday night, he scored a sensational knockout of the Eng lish-born Randy Turpin in 2:52 of the 10th round to regain the title he lost to Turpin in England, July 10. Blood gushing from Robinson’s right eye, caused by an accidental1 butt from Turpin’s head, changed Robinson from an aging and tiring j former great to a brutal fistic executioner in the 10th round of a scheduled 15-round battle. Robinson was ahead on the two judges’ score cards at the end of nine rounds, even on the referee’s! card, and slipping on all three cards when the dramatic 10th round came. For the first minute, Turpin apparently was getting slightly the better of the exchange when they came out of a clinch and Robinson’s eye began to splater blood all over the ring. From this moment on, the Sugar | king was a new man in the ring. He began to batter Turpin, shak ing him up with a powerful right,! then blasting him to the canvas with a right to the chin. Randy straightened up for a moment then crashed to the floor, flat on his back. At six he rose to one knee. He rose at the count of nine. Sensing the kill, Robinson rushed across the ring, pouring on Diplomatic Relations Reestablished ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia— (ANP)—Diplomatic relations are being re-established between Ethiopia and Italy, according to an announcement made here last week by the Ethiopian govern ment. Ethiopia broke off diplo matic relationships with Italy when the two countries went to war in 1936 during Mussolini’s reign. The government’s word is that mutual interests made the step necessary. a two fisted attack that few other men could have withstood. Tur pin refused to fall as Robinson first ripped his chin and jaw with lefts and rights, then as Turpin moved his guard up, tatooed his body with more sledges. As the British champion stood at the ropes with both arms hang ing down and Ray pounding him, referee Ruby Goldstein merci fully stopped the slaughter and declared Robinson winner and champion with eight seconds to go in the round. Until this fatal round, the out come of the fight was very much in doubt although the ANP score card had Robinso* in the lead on rounds. Large Selection GREETING CARDS Christmas & All Occasion.
