Mrs. McGinnis, the for mer Evelyn Johnson, was the re cipient of a number of social cour tesies during her stay. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Ed Todd have been hosts during the past few weeks. They had as their guests Mrs. Todd’s brother, Virgil Phil lips and Mrs. Phillips of Okla homa City, Okl., and Mrs. Todd’s daughter, Mrs. Edward Wingo of Crescent, Okl. Ava Lee, Mrs. Wingo’s daughter who is making her home with the Todds, returned . home with her mother to spend the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Earlin Sparks of Des Moines are also guests at the Todd home. Mr. Sparks, formerly of Lincoln, is a cousin to Mr. Todd. * * * Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Shepard and family have been vacationing in Sedalia, Mo., with Mrs. Shepard’s parents. * * * George J. Jones of Oskaloosa, Kas., was a visitor at the Melvin L. Shakespeare home the past week. Mr. Jones was in the city on a business trip. * * * Mrs. Katherine Favors, teacher in Omaha, brought her class to the Capital City on a civic league trip recently * * * * Miss Joyce Williams was among a number of Lincolnites to attend the wedding in Omaha of Nathan iel Fitz, a former student of the University of Nebraska. * * * The Rev. Melvin L. Shakespeare is expecting a visit this week from his brother, Mr. D. L. Shake speare of Kansas City, Mo. * * * Mrs. Cleo Ross Meeker of Tulsa, Okl., is here visiting her father, Mr. Nimrod Ross, who has been hospitalized for several days at Lincoln General hospital. Mrs. Meeker is the house guest of Mrs. Kathryn Huston. * * * Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Berry of Springfield, Mo., are visiting Mrs. Berry's cousin, Mrs. J. A. Shelby of 924 Plum st. The couple ar rived Saturday, June 17, and will leave today. * * # YM-YW CONFERENCE JUNE 9-18 ENDED i • MISS CHARLENE COLBERT. Miss Charlene J. Colbert was one among 250 persons attending the joint YM-YW regional confer ence of eight states, at Estes Park, Colo., June 9-18. The theme ( of the conference was “What Is Mightier Than the' Atom?” Dr. Huston Smith of Washington uni versity in St. Louis, Mo., was guest lecturer. Miss Colbert participated in the j recreational workshop and at tended classes in which Miriam Willey and Jack Lepke were pre siding. The topic for discussion was “Personal Freedom and So cial Good.” She also rendered a solo, “Prayer Perfect,” at one of the worship services. She was accompanied by Mrs. Jack Lepke. With all the work and discus sions there was still time for much recreation including bus rides, sun bathing and hikes through the snow-capped mountains. * * * Charlene was the dinner guest of Robbie Lee Powell Sunday after 1 noon after her return from the conference. * ♦ * Miss Katherine Thompson is spending a week’s stay in Lin coln visiting friends and relatives. Woods of Muskegon, Mich., has returned to Fort Lewis, Wash., after spend ing about ten days with his grand mother, Mrs. William Woods and other relatives here. Mr. Woods has been in the army for the past two years and has completed a special course in clerical work at Camp Lee, Va., and Louisville, Ky. Mrs. Capitola Sellers Buried on Tuesday Mrs. Capitola Sellers, 72, of 3101 North 35th, died Thursday. By Mrs. Brevy Millei Phone 2-4051 With not too many days left before you start to plan the menus for your Fourth of July picnic, I’ve listed a few salads that would be very tasty as you celebrate Independence Day. Lima Bean and Corn Salad. Cook equal quantities of green lima beans and kernel corn. Drain and season to taste with salt and pepper. Toss with well-seasoned French dressing, spiked with an extra dash of vinegar and a tea spoon of scraped onion. Chill be fore packing. Salmon Macaroni Salad. Boil long macaroni (broken) in salted water until tender. Drain and rinse in cold water. Add flaked, canned salmon; chopped sweet pickle; chopped celery; equal parts of French dressing and mayon naise and salt to taste. Chill be fore packing. Swiss Salad. Cook green peas, drain and cool. Mix with cubed American cheese, finely chopped sweet pickle and plenty of boiled dressing or mayonnaise. Salt to taste. Chill before packing. Picnic Salad. This is a delicious potato salad. Start with diced cooked potatoes and add diced cucumbers; slice radishes; finely cut celery; chopped chives or onions; sliced, cooked wieners or chopped ham; mayonnaise; salt and white pepper to taste and V-> cup heavy cream whipped. Mix lightly. Chill before packing. Sunshine Egg Salad. Allow a little more than 1 hard-cooked egg per serving. Add diced cel ery; mayonnaise to moisten; 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce; 1 tablespoon lemon juice; scraped onion, salt and pepper to taste. Mix lightly. Chill before packing. Serve on lettuce and thick slices of tomato. Salmon and Green Pea Salad. Mix equal amounts of canned flaked salmon and cooked green peas. Add tiny pearl onions or minced onion, mayonnaise to moisten. Chill before packing.
