Social Briefs , By Dorothy Orrrne Mary Bethune Club Has Third Annual Tea The Mary Bethune Literary and Art Club was host Sunday after noon to about 100 guests at its third annua] tea given at the home of Mrs. Clyde W. Malone. Per sons appearing on the program which furnished entertainment for the guests were: Master Charles Bonds who played several piano selections; Miss Eloise Finley who sang, “To Day.” Rev. William A. Greene and Mrs. Rachel Fields gave readings and the Sharps and Flats sang. Out-of-town guests in cluding the president, Mrs. O. P. Washington, were Mr. Washing ton, Rev. and Mrs. Alfred New ton and Miss Rosa Robinson all of Beatrice. June Is Wedding Dale Mr. and Mrs. Albert E. Young of Washington, D. C., has an nounced the engagement and ap proaching marriage of their daughter, Helen Elizabeth to Richard E. McWilliams, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Trago O. McWil liams, jr. Miss Yooung is a native of Washington, D. C., where she received her education in the pub lic schools. She is now employed by the U. S. Bureau of Engrav ing and Printing. Mr. McWilliams is now em ployed by the Nebraska Book Store. The wedding will be an event of June 24th in Washington, D. C. * * * Saturday evening some mem bers ot the Lincoln Post Office gave a dinner party at the Corn husker Hotel. About 50 persons enjoyed a lovely dinner elab orately planned. * * * Mrs. William Beach entered St. Elizabeth hospital Wednesday and received surgery on Thursday morning. * * * Mrs. Rosazena Dean and son, Wendell have returned from Cali fornia alter spending several months there. * * * Mr. ancl Mrs. Ralph W. Johnson spent the week end in St. Joseph, Mo., visiting friends. * * Mr. and Mrs. Herman Tapp are the proud parents of a baby boy, born April 14, at St. Elizabeth 1 hospital. * » * •* . . The University Symphony Or chestra presented a concert Sun day afternoon in the Union ball room. Five outstanding members of the senior class were featured as soloists. * * * A senior life saving course is underway at the Coliseum pool. The Red Cross is conducting this course to prepare good swimmers to be instructors in camp, parks, youth groups, and other recrea tional groups during the summer. The special two-week course started Monday and will be held for two weeks from 4-6 p. m. Monday through Friday. * * * Three new buildings are in cluded in a building program which has been okayed by the University Board bf Regents. They are an agronomy building and a meat laboratory on the agricul tural college campus, and a bot any greenhouse to be constructed on the city campus. * p * The students will vote April 26 on a hike in tuition. Hi Teens: We will start right oft with the news. Saturday, April 8, the fashion show was held at the Urban League. A couple of the models were Jeanne Malone modeling a blue bolero suit with yellow accessories and fur jacket and Jeannette Venegar, wearing a blue check suit and blue ac cessories and white gloves. The fashion show was very interest ing Jf! $ * Visiting Rev. and Mrs. M. L. Shakespeare over Easter holi days were William Ford, Rev. Shakespeare’s cousin and his friend, Earl Grant. They are sta tioned at Fort Warren, Cheyenne, Wyo. They spent Saturday eve ning at the home of Phyllis Hol comb. I hear that the Cuddle Inn was just packed Sunday afternoon, with all the teens in their Easter outfits. Those seen there were: Connie Wilson, Cecil Hatcher, Birdie and Doris Powell, Jean nette Venegar and Ionna Adams. All were looking real nice. * * * Vonna Finley was dinner guest on Easter Sunday ol Albert Bowen and family. Having Eaaster breakfast Sun day morning, April 9, at the home of the James Wilson family were: Loretta McWilliams and Maurice Russell; Betty Bowman and Her man Slaughter; Roger Brown, Raymond Frazier and John Mc Clain; Betty Wilson and Walter Lemon; Hazel Wilson an$i LeRoy Jamerson. After having breakfast they all went to church and Sun day school and they are reported having a wonderful time the re mainder of the day *: * * Monday April 10, Betty Bow man had a few guests in for an evening of fun. They were Robert Hammonds and Hazel Wilson: Nelson Moore and Betty Wilson; James Ware, Loretta McWilliams and Maurice Russell. They re ported having an enjoyable time. * v ns Friday, April 14, the Streaks and the Sharp Sharks played their final basketball game and followed up by a party after the game. The Sharp Sharks beat the Streaks 36 to 29. The party was held in the lounge. Those at tending were as follows: Sonny Walker, Bettie Rose Huston, Rich ard McWilliams, Beverly Hol comb, Arnold Tarpley, Goldie Peters, Marilyn Bowen, Donald Dorsey, Emma White, Charles Fitzes, X.oyd King, Doris Powell, Nolan Davis, Birdie Powell, Frank Parks, Ernestine Burns and many others. Refreshments were served and only one fault, it ended too soon. * * * Tuesday, April 11, it was back to school again and I just know you teens and the rest who had to go to school enjoyed that, didn’t you? * * * Girl of the month—Ionna Adams. Household Hints By Mrs. Brevy Miller Phone 2-4051 . ^ Scalloped Liver and Potatoes 6 potatoes 1 green pepper 1 lb. liver 1>4 teaspoon salt 1 onion, minced 1V4 cups milk Boil the potatoes in their jack ets; when done, peel and cut in slices. Drop the liver in boiling salted water and cook from 5 to 10 minutes. Cut into small pieces. Grease a baking dish. Cover the bottom with a layer of potatoes, add a layer of liver, and sprinkle with onions, green peppers, and seasoning. Repeat until the ingre dients are used. Add milk and bake for 30 minutes in a moderate oven (350° F.). Seven-Minute Frosting 2 egg whites 1% cups sugar 6 tablespoons cold water 1% teaspoons light corn sirup 1 teaspoon vanilla Put the egg whites (unbeaten), sugar, water, and corn syrup in the upper part of the double boiler. Place it over rapidly boil ing water, beat constantly with a rotary egg beater, and cook 7 minutes or until the frosting will stand in peaks. Remove from the fire, add vanilla, and beat until thick enough to spread. ^.**•■■*, , II. O.
