Teens In The News By Dorothy Greene. Greetings Gates: With this issue we begin our fourth year of Teen Age Chat ter. For this issue I have given it a new name. I sincerely hope to continue writing news that you will enjoy reading. TAC TAC TAC Betty and Hazel Wilson, Lo retta McWilliams and Betty Bowman popped corn at the home of Betty Bowman over the week end. I heard one of them remark that more teens should get together for a kitchen party or so forth. I think it would be a grand idea. TAC TAC TAC Vonna Finley rendered a v'ery lovely solo “The Lucky Old Sun” at the Sophomore party at Lin coln high school recently, accom panied by Loretta McWilliams. Others attending the party were Barbara Moody, Emma White and Norma Dunn. ✓ TAC • TAC TAC Halloween is only four days away so you’d better get the things ready for all of the trick or treaters by having a supply of candy, oranges, apples, etc. TAC TAC TAC Elois Finley sang on the Hardy’s talent parade the 17th and she did a real neat job. Richard Holcomb and Albert Bowen did a bit of hunting over the week end. Did you get any thing boys? TAC TAC TAC IIow to Hunt a Job 1. Tell friends you need work. 2. Name the apple and make a wish. Cut it open. Take out the seeds and count them thus: One, I love Two, I love i Three, I love, I say Four, I love with all my heart: Five, I cast away; Six he loves Seven, she loves, Eight they both love Nine, he comes Ten, he tarries Eleven, he courts. Twelve, he marries Thirteen, wishes, Fourteen, kisses All the rest, little witches. TAC TAC TAC Revietving the Past Glancing back over the many weeks, months and even years there has been a lot of interest ing happenings going on among the teens. Close your eyes and let’s drift back through the past. The first person of the week was Betty Wilson, it appeared in the October 11 issue of 1946. J The first thought of the week was “Never find faults in some one else without counting TEN —of your own.” In the October 25, 1946 issue Nolan Davis was a sophomore at Lincoln high school and had a very good football record. On March 7, 1947 Loretta Mc Williams gave a real cool party with many guests attending. TAC TAC TAC MISS FREDDIE POWELL Then in 1949 Freddie Powell was accepted as a trainee in the University Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Freddie, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. R. H. Powell, left August 12 to begin her train ing. She was in the city over the week end visiting her sister Robbie who hasn’t been feeling well for the past two weeks. - Farmers Hdw. & Supply Co. She attends Lincoln high school and is in the 11th grade. She is a member of Mt. Zion Baptist church and holds the job as assistant clerk in the church. While interviewing this lovely maiden I found out some very interesting facts. Her favorite song is “Little Girl Don’t Cry” by Bull Moose Jackson and in the movie line her favorite actress and actor are Lizabeth Scott and Alan Ladd (not a bad choice at all). In the sports field it’s baseball for Doris and she just loves to cook, iron, do dishes and clean house. I think Doris is quite the girl to be crowned Girl-of-the-Year. TAC TAC TAC Bo y-of-the-Y ear MR. ALBERT BOWEN This handsome teen is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Bowen, 1600 Whittier. He is a senior at Lincoln high school and a member of Quinn Chapel A.M.E church where he is vice presi dent of the Junior Usher Board. In the movie world his favorite actress and actor are Lana Turner and Humphrey Bogart, his favorite sports are basket ball and hunting and he is studying to be a furrier and would like to further his educa tion along that line in New York. When asked about his hobbies he quickly replied girls and later changed it to cais (either might be very interesting, Al). I am sure you will all agree with my ch<fice of Boy-of-the-Year. Johnson SUPPLY & COAL CO. "The Home of Good Coal” 932 North ?3rd. 2-7236 How to Hold a Job Do more than is required on any job. Study your job and try to improve your work. Show the boss you can work and try to help him save money and in crease his business. Leave your old employer so satisfied he will help you on the next job. Remember you want to work again. Work as if you planned to do so the rest of your life. Don’t be afraid to discuss your work with your employer. Take his criticism and correc tions graciously and profit by them. Don’t be satisfied to be medi ocre. There is too much com petition, and you must be better than average to be successful. Bye now. DOTTY. For the Common Task Dear Christ, help me to take the common things of life and make them beautiful. Help me to do this today. Let me not wait until tomorrow, or next week, or next summer for my joy; help me to find it today in the com mon task, in accustomed places, with the comrades of my home or market place. But I cannot do it alone. Dear Christ, I cannot do it alone. Stay Thou near by. Thou alone const glorify the beautiful drudgery of life. Thou alone canst turn valleys into mountain tops. In Thy presence is fullness of joy; as Thy right hand there are pleasures morn ing. noon and night. Spirit of Jesus, help me to be a good steward of Thy presence all the day. Amen. At Sunset How much they miss Who have no eyes to see! O God, if heaven outside So beautiful can be, Then grant me spirit eyes To look within with Thee! R. S. C.
