Social Briefs _ _ _ * _ _ • Charles Goolsby, associate edi tor of “The Voice" returned Wednesday after spending a month with the army in Fort Dix, New Jersey. Mr. Goolsby plans to complete work for his master’s degree in January at the University of Nebraska. * * * Sunday afternoon Mr. Goolsby and Joe Ishakawa were tea guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Bishop. * # * The Mary Bethune Literary and Art Club will meet Thurs day at the Urban League at 2:00 p. m. All members are urged to attend this first meeting of the fall season. * * * The Urban League Guild was represented at the Denver Con ference by the president, Mrs. Agenese Adams, who will give a report Friday evening at a meeting to be held at the Lin coln Urban League. Mr. Clyde W. Malone executive secretary of the Lincoln Urban League and Mr. Dale H. Weeks, president of the board were also Lincoln rep resentatives. * * * Miss Virginia Davis returned Sunday after spending several weeks with her mpther, Mrs. Hettie Davis of New Bloomfield, Mo. They will return via Florida and the east coast and visit friends in Washington, D. C. * * * Mrs. Basilia Bell has returned to work after being injured as the result of a fall last week. Miss LaVon Butler, niece of Mrs.' Joe Green stopped over in Lincoln for a few days on a re turn trip to Alliance after spend ing several weeks visiting friends and relatives in Brook haven, Miss. Miss Butler’s brother, Edward, has been re leased from Veterans hospital after receiving treatment for an injured ankle. * * * Lunch was served Saturday at the Urban League by the O. E. S. to the out-of-town persons who attended the funeral of Richard G. Huston. Mrs. Ed Todd was chairman of arrangements. Klan Helps Communists All Over the World WASHINGTON. (ANP). Prob ably one of the best friends of the so-called world wide Com munistic movement is the Ku Klux Klan. At least, Red propa gandists think so, anyway. Currently one of the most popular methods dipicting the difference between American life and Communistic life is to show a picture of the white robed Klansmen parading thru ; the streets. Often Communists ; dress like the hooded mobsters and parade in city streets of sa tellite countries such as Czecho slovakia and Poland. Six in Running For Job ALCORN, Miss. (ANP). Six persons are being considered by the state board of institutions for the presidency of Alcorn A. and M. College, it was revealed here last week. The post has been vacant since April 29, when Dr. W. H. Phelps resigned. Listed in the running for the position are George Netterville, Southern University; J. I. E. Scott | and E. S. Burke, Alcorn; W. A. j Flowers, Tennessee A. and I. Col lege; J. R. Otis, Tuskegee Institute, and Dr. J. H. White, Lane College. Ex-President Pipes recently ac cepted a job as dean of Philander Smith College and instructor in English at the school. Mina Haley, daughter of Mrs. Gussie Currie of West Plains, Mo., married Lige Oakes, son of ! Mr. and Mrs. L. Oakes in Salem, Ark., August 13, 1949. Some of the new-comers are Willene Brown, Charlene Dudley and Barbara Waldron all of Omaha. And many interesting male students also!!!! Who is it that always finds time to stop at the home of Betty Bowman? Could it be Hermon Slaughter? I’m telling you we really have some fine dressers here in the great big city of Lincoln. Some of them are Doris Roberts, De lores Bowen, Phyllis Holcomb, Betty Wilson, Vonna Finley and Maxine Stith. It looked like an Easter parade Sunday morning at church. Betty Bowman and Patsy Hub bard have returned from spend ing quite a visit in Washington, D. C., and adjoining states. They reported a real cool time. The Klique Klub had a meet ing at the home of Miss Betty Wilson Sunday and they made plans for a party the latter part of September. Real Gone Hey‘!! I wonder what Betty Wilson’s favorite candy is, could it be lemon drops? Let us in on the secret Bets! Well Hugh Denton left last week but his memory still lingers on for he took Jeannie Malone to the fair the day before he left. Pickens on Long Tour For Bond Section of Treas. ALBERQUERQUE, N. M. (ANP). William Pickens, official of the bond section of the U. S. Treasury, arrived here by TWA plane Wednesday. GOLDENROD 215 North 14th Street Jess Williams Springs r HOUSEHOLD HINTS By Mrs. Brevy Millet Phone 2-4051 4 Eggs Anchovy on Rice. 6 hard cooked eggs 2 teaspoons anchovy paste 3 teaspoons melted butter or vlta minzed margarine V4 teaspoon pepper Dash cayenne cup coarsely chopped celery leaves 2 cups medium white sauce Buttered bread crumbs Grated Parmesan cheese A teaspoon salt Cut eggs in half lengthwise. Remove yolks and press through fine sieve. Blend thoroughly with anchovy paste, butter or marga rine, and seasonings. Fill whites with mixture. Lay eggs—stuffed side up—in bottom of baking dish. Sprinkle with celery leaves. Pour white sauce over mixture. Top with buttered crumbs. Sift over top cheese and a little salt and pepper. Bake in moderate oven (350° F.) 20 minutes or until sauce bubbles and topping is golden brown. Serve on rice with mulled butter sauce. Rice With Mulled Butter Sauce. 2 tablespoons minced onion 3 or 4 cups fluffy cooked rice *4 teaspoon pepper li cup melted butter or vttaminzed margarine 1 teaspoon salt Simmer onion in butter or mar garine until onion is transparent. Thoroughly blend onion mixture and seasonings with rice. To serve, place mounds of rice on individual plates. Arrange over them 3 or 4 halves of eggs anchovy. Spring Vegetable Salad You can fix this salad ahead of time to hasten getting the eve ning meal: 1 package lemon-flavored gelatin 2 cups boiling water 2 teaspoons vinegar Vi cup sbredded lettuce 1 teaspoon salt Vi cup pimiento cut in strips 1 cup tomato wedges Vi cup diced celery Dissolve gelatin in water and stir in vinegar and salt; chill until syrpy. Add remaining ingredients and pour into a large or several small molds which have been rinsed with cold water. Chill un til firm and serve on lettuce with mayonnaise. Serves 6. DIAMONDS! LOW PRICES!
