j Social Briefs Two Omaha sister* were among worshippetg at Quinn Chapel Sunday morning. They were Mrs. N. Skinner, 2915 No. 25lh street, St. John AME, and Mrs. Roxana Brown, 2883 Miami of St. Phillips church They were week end guest of Mrs. Richard G. Huston. Mrs. Brown was accompanied to the city by her husband. • * * Mrs. John Miller attended the one-day Methodist church con ference held in Kansas City, Kas., Wednesday of last week. The con ference was composed of repre sentatives of the Topeka District, the Rev. C. C. Reynolds was host pastor. * * * Miss Loretta Martin will leave Thursday, July 7 to be guest at the Missouri convention of the Postal Mechanics to be held in St. Louis, Mo. * * * The Rev. Trago T. McWilliams, sr., district chairman of the Church of Christ (Holiness) spent the week end in Kansas City, Kas. * * * Mrs. Moliie Lankford of New York City, who is visiting her sister, Mrs. A. E. Simms shared honors with Miss Katherine Thompson, graduate of Pittsburgh University School of Social work, Friday evening when Mrs. John Johnson entertained at dinner. Other guests enjoying the very elaborate three-course dinner were, Mrs. A. E. Simms, Mrs. J. B. Brooks, Mrs. Clyde Coul ter, Mrs. Joseph Green, Mrs. W. B. Davis and Mrs. M. L. Shakespeare. * * * Mr. and Mrs. William Perkins, 2015 Miami, Omaha, have an nounced the approaching marriage of their daughter, Louise Maxine to Mr. LaRohn Latimer. The wed ding will take place Sunday, July 17 at Mt. Moriah Baptist church at Omaha. The Perkins afire for mer Lincolnites and Louise at tended Wesleyan University here. * * * Mrs. Emma Anderson, sister to Mrs. Johnnie Jones returned to Memphis June 16 in accompany with a nurse. Mrs. Anderson had been brought here several weeks ago for special medical care. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Madi son of Oakdale, la., were wor shippers at Quinn Chapel Sunday morning. Mr. Madison is a stu dent at Ag college. Mrs. Madison, a teacher at Allen Parish Train ing school in Oakdale, La., is spending the summer with her husband and will leave about August 1. * * * Mrs. J. H. Miller, who has been confined to her home for the past | several days is somewhat im proved. * • • Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Drake also , attended services at Quinn Chapel Sunday. The Drakes are mem bers of St. John AME church j in Omaha, where Mr. Drake di rects the choir orchestra. • • • Mrs. W. B. Davis who recently ! spent two weeks as guest of Mrs. Hattie Bank, Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Margaret Davis, Kansas City, Kas., has returned after an exciting vacation of work and pleasure. While there she was dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Gayden, Mr. and Mrs. Wil burn Tippins and Mr. and Mrs. R. Fletcher and Mrs. Fletcher’s mother, Mrs. Mattox. She was luncheon guest of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Briley, opera guest of Mrs. Zelma Dave, breakfast guest of Mrs. Florence Mitchell and party guest of Mrs. Saddie Berry and Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Estes. Mrs. Frank Williams left re cently to spend several weeks with her daughter in Eliola, Mo * * * Mrs. Georgia Goosby, extension worker from the board of educa tion of the Methodist church will direct a vacation Bible school at Newman Methodist church, 23rd and S streets July 10-24. Children 4 to 15 years of age are invited to attend. The Rev. William A. Greene is the pastor * * * Mr. Arthur McWilliams spent the week end in St. Joseph, Mo. Mrs. Doreenne Holliday and Mrs. Christine Allen, of Omaha, spent Sunday visiting their hus bands who are patients at the Lincoln Veterans hospital. * * * Mrs. James Fuller and Miss Ida Adkins have returned after attending the District Conference of the CME church held at Omaha. The Rev. D. L. Lilly, presiding elder of the CME church, held his third quarterly conference Sunday. Langston Faculty Members Attend Summer Sessions LANGSTON, Okl. (ANP). Dr. G. L. Harrison, president of Lang ston university, announced last week that seven faculty members have been granted leave for study during the summer session. They are E. J. Brown, who will study at the University of Denver; Mo zeal A. Dillon, ^University of Ne braska; Alphonse Pyle, University of Denver; S. H. Settle*, Kansas State college; Mrs. E. M. Wash ington, University of Iowa; Mrs. Gladys D. Martin, Ohio State uni versity; Mrs. T. B. Moore, Uni versity of Colorado. The prize was a beautiful watch. * # * Pat Herndon, of Council Bluffs, la., is visiting with the Holcomb family. * * v Many teens were planning to go to Omaha, for the 4th, among them were Gladys Bradford, Kath ryn King and Lester White, and many more. * * * Put these eight girls together and you get Miss Cool. Dip grapes in egg white, then in sugar. Chill in refrigerator about 1 hr. Peppermint Stick Chiffon Pie Soak 1 envelop* gelatin in cup cold water Scald % cup milk Stir in Vi cup sugar 14 teaspoon salt 1 cup crushed peppermint stick candy Beat slightly 4 egg yolks Add egg yolks to milk mixture. Cook over boiling water until custard coats a spoon. Stir in gelatin. Chill until thick and syrupy. Beat 4 egg whites Fold into custard. Pour into chocolate cookie crumb crust. Chill until firm, about 3 hours. Serve with whipped cream. Makes 9-inch* pie. Black Cherry Chiffon Pie Drain and chop 2 cups pitied black cherries 1 envelope gelatin in V* cup cherry juice Beat together 4 egg yolks V4 cup sugar Vi teaspoon salt V4 cup cherry juice 1 teaspoon lemon juice Cook over boiling water until thick. It4 cups sugar 6 tablespoons orange Juice 14 teaspoon cream of tartar 2 egg whites 2 teaspoons grated orange rind Mix all ingredients in the top of a double boiler. Beat over hot water with a rotary beater until the icing will hold up in peaks. Spread between cooled layers, on top and sides of orange cake.
