Fox. • • • Mrs. John has re turned after attending funeral services which were held in Kan sas City, Mo., for her aunt, Mrs. Amanda Allen • • • Serious illness of their daugh ter Maxine, caused Mr. and Mrs Donald Stith to rush to Chicago, Ill , last week end. Miss Stith, who is in her second year nurse training at Provident hospital is expected home this week to re cuperate. • * • Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Patrick spent the holiday in Omaha visiting their daughter and son in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Thomas and their daughter, Janice. • • • The home of Mrs. W. D. Spa ton, 457 No. 25th street, was the scene of a beautiful breakfast for W.C.T.A. women Monday, May 23. Mrs. Jennie R. Edwards and Mrs. Golden Brooks were among the guests present. • * • Mr. and Mrs. James King of Broken Bow, Neb., were among the worshippers at Quinn Chapel morning services on Sunday. • • • Mrs. J. C. Hudson journeyed to Battle Creek, Mich., for the holi days. She expected to get in some fishing before returning to Lin coln via Chicago. She will be gone until the week end. • • • Jr. Misses Gwen Bowler and Patricia Johnson had a picnic at Antelope park for Caroline, Bea trice and Delores Green, who left for California last Saturday. Joanny Whitmon was also a guest. • • • May 15, the Allon Chapel SDA church sponsored a picnic at Pio neers park. A bus-load of people from Omaha and a carload from Topeka, Kas., journeyed to Lin coln to join in the fun. There was lots of food and the picnickers enjoyed races and games. “The social committee and the foods committee did a splen did job,™ said LeCount Butler, pastor of the local congregation. Gloria Macson, Sabbath school superintendent, was in charge of the arrangements. -- ■ —_ Barney Ewell To Run As Pro In Australian Meet LANCASTER, Pa. (ANP). Bar ney Ewell, Olympic sprint star, who was denied amateur status after he accepted a furnished home from the home-town well wishers, has announced that he will run as a professional in Aus j tralia. Ewell’s announcement came fol lowing an invitation from the Vic torian Athletic league to partici pate with Lloyd La Beach of Panama in next summer’s pro fessional sprint championship in Victoria. He won medals in three different races at Whittier junior high school during Health day. • • • Panola Bradford and Beverly Holcomb spent the holiday vaca tion in Omaha, Neb. (moder ate). Arrange apples in greased 10” x 6" x 2” baking dish. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg. Pour lemon juice and com syrup over apples. Combine sugar, flour, and salt; cut in butter until mixture is consistenucy of coarse corn meal. Lightly stir in cheese; then top apples with this mixture. Bake, uncovered, at 350“ F. for 1 hr., or until apples are very ten der. Serve warm, with or without cream Makes 6 generous servings. Ruby-Ring Salad. 3 cups drained, finely chopped, cooked or canned beets V4 cup vinegar cup granulated sugar IVi tabiesp. unflavored gelatin Vi cup cold water 1 Vi cups beet liquid m . 1 Vi teasp. salt IVi cups minced celery 1 tabiesp. minced ontoa 3 tabiesp. bottled horse-radish Salad greens Combine first 3 ingredients; chill 1 hr. or longer. Sprinkle gelatin on cold water; let soften 5 min. Heat beet liquid to boiling; add salt. Remove from heat, add gelatin; stir until dissolved Chill until it mounds slightly when dropped from spoon. Fold in beets, celery, onion, horse-radish. Mk % cup alftad, dried bread crumbs H teasp black pepper Heat oven to 325° F. (moderate). Trim excess fat from chops. Grease 9” pie plate, and pour milk into it; add salt. Dip each chop in mtlk, then roll in crumbs. Fit chops snugly together in milk in pie plate. Sprinkle with pepper. Scatter remaining crumbs over chops. Cover with 8” or 9’ pie plate.
