THEME: Parables of Jesus (Temperance). TEXT: Mark 4; Luke 15:11-24. The parable of the Soils. The first recorded parable uttered by Jesus has come to be known as The Parable of the Sower, and in illustrations of the parable, ar tists have made us familiar with the figure of the sower of Pale stine throwing his seed broad cast. From a study of Jesus’ in terpretation of the parable, one sees that the truer title would be the Parable of the So.ils. The em phasis is not upon the sower, nor his manner of scattering the seed, nor is it upon the seed. Jesus did not bid His disciples take heed how they sowed the seeds, He bade them take heed how they received the seed, how they heard. The Seed Is the Word of God. This parable is typical in the way in which it deals with a spiritual idea. Such ideas cannot be pre cisely defined or expressed in anything like a scientific form ula. They have a wealth 6f meaning which can be explored only by patient and careful thinking. To get that process be gun in any human mind the idea must be planted in it by some vivid and forcible presentation which will make it real and of deep interest. This is what the parable of Jesus did for His hear ers and still do for us. It was the way in w'hich He sowed the wrord. The Parable of the Prodigal Son. This parable tells us that God’s love for His erring chil dren is not destroyed by their waywardness and sin. But it also tells us that waywardness and sin drive their victims into far countries and bring them down to the lowest depths of want and misery. It tells us that those who seek to use the lives, that God gives them as the means of self gratification are really choosing t’ne way of death, even while they are exulting in the thrills of ap petite and passion as being the very essence of intense apd vivid living. It is only when he sees the utter folly of his ways that the sinner really comes to true human selfhood. Only when he returns to the order and discip line of his father’s house does the prodigal really lived^ ONE-STOP LOANS &100-$200-S306 or More FAMILY FINANCE CO 206 1st Nat. Bk. Bide. The Omaha Northside Y.M.C.A. basketballers edged past the Urban League cagers and the Quinn Chapel team on the hard wood at the Urban League gym last Saturday, Feb. 26, by defeat ing the Leaguers 25 to 17, and then going on to defeat the pow erful Quinn Chapel five by a score of 25 to 24. Roland Delaney led the scoring for the Leaguers by dropping in 10 points. Last Wednesday the Leaguers travelled to Everett School for Model UNESCO Continued from Page 1 who has been a background ad viser to the UNESCO student group, said that students among those that first approached him on the working model plan were Robert Nicholls and Bev Huttner of Lincoln, Shirley Quissenberry, Jamaica, N. Y., Susan Allen, Pierce; Gerald Young, Lexington; Marsha Tepperman, Omaha; Au drey Rosenbaum, Chicago and Phyllis Cadwallader of Kearney. During the sessions, which were under the general direction of Ted Sorensen, Lincoln law stu dent, hot debates fanned be tween the 43 represented coun tries over such problems as the redistribution of .world surplus labor and technical assistance for countries needing it. Compro mises brought solutions in cases where the questions were within the scope of the meeting. Coming in brotherhood month, the UNESCO meet was most timely and points out that many differences in our country be tween cultural and racial groups can be worked out, if people really desire it, by peaceful methods. During the conference students received advice and guidance from such renowned public and UNESCO representatives - as Archibald MacLeish, Dr. Albert Rosenthal, University of Denver, Dr. Richard McKeon, University of Chicago, Miss Constance Roach, UNESCO staff representa tive and Chancellor R, G. Gus tavson of the University of Ne braska. Dr. McKeon explained that the United Nations Educational, their first game of the city tour nament. After being on the short end of the scoring at the half by a score of 17 to 7, they came back in the last half to defeat Vonville by a score of 25 to 24. Sonny Walker led the scoring with 9 points, Roland Delaney followed with 8. This week on Tuesday night, the leaguers found themselves pitted against the Church of the Brethren, who have won six games and lost two in the Church League in which they have been playing all season.
