Social Briefs By Mrs. Basilia Bell Ph. 5-5531 Mrs. R. G. Huston and daugh ter, Bettie Rose, were motored to Frankfort, Kas., on Thanksgiving Day by Mr. and Mrs. Don Griggs by to be dinner guests at a family reunion at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Smith where 34 guests enjoyed a most elaborate dinner. Mrs. Huston had not seen some of the relatives for more than 30 years. • * * Another Thanksgiving dinner was enjoyed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Edwards. The guests included Mr. and Mrs. Harry Peterson, their daughter, Donna and Mr. Peterson’s mother, Mrs. Bertha Peterson of Kansas City, Mo., and the Rev. and Mrs. J. B. Brooks and their children, Eugenia, Wendell and Walter. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Todd en tertained as their guests on Thanksgiving Day, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gill. * * * The Rev. and Mrs. M. L. Shake speare were dinner guests on Thanksgiving Day of Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson. * * * A pre-Thanksgiving family din ner was given on Sunday by Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Ambers. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Henderson, Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Alexander, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Daley and their two chil dren, Miss Patricia Hubbard, Mrs. Clara Nevels, George Alexander, Sammy Nevels and Don Adkins. * * * An interesting newcomer to our city is Miss Anna Akers of Brook field, Mo. Miss Akers is a cousin to Mrs. Betty Lintz, with whom she is making her home. * * * Miss Barbra Kelley, a teacher at Vinita, Okla., spent Thanks giving with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jewell R. Kelley. Miss Kel ley gave a rendition of a special piano selection for Sunday morn ing service at Quinn Chapel church. She left Sunday afternoon to return to her work. * * * Mrs. Cordelia Walker has re turned after spending three months visiting relatives and friends in Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. * * * Pvt. Joseph Casmon recently spent a furlough with his family before going overseas. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Robert Letcher were hosts at a family dinner on Thanksgiving Day. Their guests included their daughter, Doris Roberts, of Kansas City, Kas., Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hammond, Lois and Cecil Hatcher. * * * Mr. and Mrs. James Cole mo tored to New York City to spend their Tranksgiving. They left on Monday morning. * * * Mr. and Mrs. H. Denton are driving Monday to Memphis, Tenn., to attend the National Convocation. Enroute they will stop in Omaha where Elder and Mrs. B. T. McDaniel will join them. In Kansas City, Kas., Mrs. Julia Gilbert will join them for the trip. * * * Elder Robert Lane attended the state youth meeting in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday. * * * Mrs. Virgie Nevels of Council Bluffs, Iowa was guest of her granddaughter, Mrs. Raymond Botts and family for Thanksgiv ing. * * * Mr. and Mrs. James Gill had as their dinner guests Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Brown, Mrs. Ruby Perry. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Shear ron, Mrs. Alma Austin and Mr. Gardner Brown. Mrs. Zora Adams was called to Des Moines, la., because of death. Her daughter, Ionna, accompa nied her. * * * ( Mrs. Lutie Brown of Kansas City, Mo., is visiting her niece, Mrs. Lonnie Carter and sister, Mrs. H. Whitehall. Mrs. Brown and Susie Mae Whitehall visited Mrs. I. G. Whitehall in Fremont over Thanksgiving. * * * Mrs. Ruth Talbert of Los An geles has returned to Lincoln be cause of the serious illness of her stepdaughter, Mrs. Marcella Whitebear. * * * The Rev. J. B. Brooks was speaker at .a father-and-son ban quet at the Evangelical-United Brethren church at 11th and Gar field recently. t- * * Mrs. Marie Johnson of Omaha was a dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. John Miller on Sunday. * * * On November 21, Messrs. Shorty Botts, Pot Dean, M. C. Tarpley, Pat Robinson, Shorty Robinson and Sonny Austin went hunting near Bennet, Nebraska. Prior to this a hunting trip took them to Milford where they got their bag of squirrels, rabbits and birds. John Miller and Mathew Mathias were also successful hunters on a recent trip. * * * Mrs. Carrie Kimbrough of Oklahoma City was a recent visi tor in the city. She spent her time with her son and daughter in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Kim brough and their two children, Keith and Leslie. * * * Miss Loretta Martin and Mrs. Lucy Nevels, leaders of the Lin coln Urban* League Brownies, re cently gave a party for 18 girls. Refreshments were served and games were played and a good time was had by all. * t * The pastor of the C. M. E. Church will hold services at the Lincoln Urban League, on De cember the 5th. B.D., Pastor. * * «= Mrs. Eugenia Brown and Miss Winifred Winston journeyed to St. Joseph, where they were the house guests of Mr, Arthur Shropshire. They enjoyed a scrumptuous Southern Thanksgiv ing dinner with their host and his wife, Grace and daughter, Jac quelyn. Bill Garrett, captain of the Shel byville state high school basket ball champions in 1946, will ca vort on the Indiana university cage squad this year and become the first Negro to play regularly on a Big Nine basketball team. Garrett starred on last year’s freshman squad and is playing regular center in the practice drills of the I. U. cage squad. A good way to stretch ham burger is by adding one beaten egg and some cooked noodles. For added flavor, season with a minced onion, salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce, or serve with tomato sauce. Many people were there and ev erything jumped like mad. * * * Doris Roberts, of Kansas City, spent Thanksgiving vacation with her cousin, Louis Hatcher. By the way they tell me that she is the latest authority on the Be Bop “I’m hep.” t * * The Teen Age club, with Verne Wilson as president, has made plans to charter a bus to Omaha in the near future. I hope every teen gets aboard and has a real crazy time. Boys Only , Here is a little reminder to all young gentlemen. It’s nearing the time for all the many fine Christ fnas parties, so here is a couple of things to remember. 1. If the invitation you receive says R.S.V.P. (Repondez s’il vous plait—French—which means An swer if you please), answer it promptly and tell her yes or no, so she won’t be disappointed at the last minute. 2. If corsages are in order by all means take the girl one. What do I mean—Well I mean just this: if the party is Formal or Semi Formal take a corsage and don’t be late. One more thing, if you are in doubt about what color dress she will wear why don’t you ask her best girl friend; I’m sure she would be able to tell you. Combine peanut butter and half a cup of milk, And beat with a rotary beater until smooth. Add remaining milk and egg mixture and stir until well mixed. Pour custard into individual custard cups and place i na shallow pan containing one inch of hot water. Bake in a 350-degree oven for about an hour, until a silver knife in serted in center comes out clean. White Mountain Icing: Put one cup sugar in one fourth cup hot water and boil until it threads. Whip whites of two eggs to stiff forth and add syrup, beating constantly. When nearly cool, add vanilla.
