Handy. Subject: “Aquila and Priscilla.” Scripture: Acts 18: 1-3, 18-19, 24-26; Rom. 15: 3-5, I Cor. 16:19; 2nd Tim. 4:19. Golden Text: “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers.” Heb. 13:2. —The Lesson— Today we study some of the background and life of a Christian married couple. Paul in his missionary journey came across this tent making fam ily living in the Greek city of Corinth. Aquila and Priscilla were Jews who had been banished from Rome because of race. Paul upon arriving in Corinth, at once, went to the Jewish quarter looking for members of his own race. Being also a tent maker, this couple took him in and they worked to gether at their trade. Much can be accomplished by talking individually to people. Paul was able to convert them to the Christian faith. Paul as a soul winner was as eager to win souls by personal contact as he was when he preached to large con gregations. Here is a lesson for us. Some who plead for souls in congregations, neglect to speak of Christ to individuals. After establishing a church at Corinth, Paul on his leisurely journey to Rome was constrained to go to Ephesus. Aquila and Priscilla journeyed with him to Ephesus, and from there Paul con tinued his journey toward Rome, but Aquila and Priscilla lingered on in Ephesus. They were spirit filled folk but not eloquent. They lived the gospel. Apollos, one of John the Baptist’s disciples came preaching and teaching the bap tism of John, and he lodged with Aquilla and Priscilla, and thus this couple was able to acquaint him with the baptism of the Holy Spirit and lead him to Christ, and Apollos went on to become one of the great pillars of this church. Paul calls this couple “My help ers in Christ Jesus.” It means very much to be a true, humble helper of a real Christian leader, but every Chris tian may be a true helper. Out of faithful helpers God often chooses His leaders. > WPT’g99 tfltali/yn.. . brings you tbe newest of fashions to drape your foot in loveliness., in either high or mid-way heel suede sandals.
