Ml Zion Baptists Guests at Omaha Anniverary Last Sunday the members of Mt. Zion Baptist church were the invited guests of Mt. Zion Baptist church of Omaha, of which Rev. F. C. Williams is pastor. Thirty two persons filled a chartered bus for the trip, and others went in private cars. At the mid-after noon service, which was part of the fifth anniversary of celebra tion for the Omaha paster, Rev. John S. Favors delivered the ser mon and his choir, under the di rection of Mrs. Maude Coggs and with Mrs. Eugenia Brown accom panying,' rendered the music for the occasion. A fried chicken din ner was served the visitors and at 5 p. m., a reception for the pastor I and his family was held in the dining hall. The Rev. Mr. Williams has been at Mt. Zion church for ten years, the first five of which he served as pastoral assistant. Outstanding work of his administration was re viewed by Mr. P. H. Jenkins, in which he noted that some 400 members had been added and among other numerous improve ments and payments, the liquida tion of an $18,000 debt on the church. The anniversary service was climaxed with the presenta tion of a purse of $600 to the pastor from the congregation as an * appreciation of his services. Mr. and Mrs. Williams are parents of three children including Felix, who is a junior in the University of Nebraska geology department. Sundatf. School aCnAJuO/L BY REV. R. E. HANDY. Subject: “From Malachi to Christ.’’ Scripture: Mai. 3:1-5; 4:1, 2, 5, 6; Luke 1:76-79. Golden Text: "Blessed be the Lord God of’ Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people.'* Luke 1:68. —The Lesson— The clarion voice of Malachi closes the Old Testament. No j other warning cry was to come to God’s chosen people for 400 years. These centuries were ( years of world confusion, both; political and religious. Persia, Syria and /finally Rove, overran Palestine. During the Babylonian captivity, the Jews, far from Jerusalem, started worship in synagogues. Those who returned gathered in groups for prayer and to promote some knowledge of the scripture. This led to the building of temples m Palestine. Malachi says in Mai. 3:1-5 “Behold I will send my mes senger, and he shall prepare the way before me.’’ Four centuries later, John said, "Behold the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sins of the world.” Malachi again refers to the "great and terrible day of the Lord" in chap. 4, vs. 1, 2, 5, 6. What a difference in the two advents of Jesus. His birth, only noted by a few, was first. At His second coming “every eye shall behold him.’’ Those that have washed their robes and made them white, shall clap their hands for joy. Those that have rejected him shall run to the rocks and mountains and seek hiding places, but none shall be found there. Oh, Jesus, get us ready for your great day, for who shall be able to stand? 1 Jess Williams Springs TRAVELING? I See Latsch Brothers for Luggage 1124 O 2-6838 -----—---- -— - ■ — At Winterhalter’* .
