j Social Briefs By BasilU Bell The Les Femmes met at the home of Mrs. Dorothy Dean and Mrs. Ruth Williams Thursday eve ning. Plans were made for expan sion of the membership and creat ing new interest within the club. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Marjorie Winston. The newly elected officers are Miss Maxine Walker, President; Mrs. Mary Bundy, Secretary, and Mrs. Bob ette Rife, Treasurer. • * * Mrs. Beulah Walker has re turned from an extensive trip in the Southland which included Birmingham, Alabama, Memphis, Tennessee, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Kansas City, Kansas. * » • Mr. Wade Fields of New York City will visit his mother, Mrs. Josephine Fields of Nebraska City, on Mother's Day. • • • Mrs. Bobette Rife entertained at her home Sunday afternoon a few of her friends who were honoring Miss Clara Johnson who is sched uled to leave for Los Angeles, California. Her guests were Mrs. Dorothy Dean, Mrs. Ruth Wil liams, Mrs. Maude Williams, Mrs. Marjorie Winston, Mrs. Doris Hamilton, Miss Maxine Walker, and Mrs. Mary Shirley Bandy. Mrs. Lillian Rife was pleasantly surprised to find on returning home, the table set for six and guests arriving to celebrate her marriage anniversary. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. McKinley Tarpley and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bell, Sr. * * * The Stack-Em-Up radio show given by the UL Guild with Mrs. Beulah Bradley chairman was a huge success. * * * Rev. Robert Moody spent the week end in Wichita, Kansas, where he held a series of instruc tions in the Sunday School Insti tute. * * * Rev. T. O. McWilliams, his wife and son, motored to Kansas City, Kansas, to observe Rev. T. T. Mc Williams* first anniversary of the church there. Rev. Jerguson ac companied them. The T. F. Club met at the home of Mrs. Ann Newton April 13th. Miss Dorothy Carr was hostess, and served a delicious salad plate. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Walter Winston entertained Miss Lea trice Joe Botts on her birthday the 25th of April. Refreshments were served. * Mr. and Mrs. H. Botts of Horton, Kansas, spent Sunday with his sister, Mrs. Elsie Cooper. * * • Mrs. Elsie Cooper and niece, Evelyn Botts, and Mr. S. E. An derson, spent a few days in Den ver, Colo. * * * Mr. Donald Botts and Charles Finney enlisted in the U. S. Navy at San Diego, California. * * * Returning with Mrs. William Molden from Cheyenne, Wyo., was her daughter, Mrs. Katheryn Perry, who visited in Lincoln on their way to Weeping Water, Nebr. • * * The Duke and Duchess Revup will be on May 14th in the audi torium at 2030 T' St. The com mittee for the Duke and Duchess Revue are: Mmes. Juanita Banks, Dessie Delaney, Agenese Adams, Rklph Johnson, Sara Walker, Mar guerite Williams, Izetta Malone, Dorothy Lewis and Roma Hender son. * • * Mr. and Mrs. Eugene R. Ed wards received many cards from friends on the observance of their 39th wedding anniversary April 28th. I . * * * Mr. Lewis Reynolds, who was recently appointed to the Post Office Department has been joined by his wife, Bessie, and son, Comie James. They are living at 1946 “T” in the home he recently purchased. * * * Mrs. G. W. Harper and son, Joey, of Idependence, Mo., vis ited Lincoln, Tuesday, April 27th to May 4th. Joey returned to have the cast removed from his broken leg. • * * Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Adams and children visited Nebraska City Sunday, May 2nd. * * * The annual yard cleanAip cam paign begins during the week of May 9th. Mix well. Shape into eight balls. Roll each ball in rice and press rice into meat so that as it cooks it will cling to the meat. Place meat balls in pan: cover with to mato soup and boiling water. Cover well and simmer for 45 minutes. This will make four to six servings. BANANA CUF CAKES 2 cups sifted enriched flour 2 teaspoons baking powder H teaspoon soda H teaspoon salt H cup shortening 1 cup sugar 2 egg?, beaten 1 teaspoon grated orange rind 1 teaspoon grated lemon rind 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 cup mashed bananas 2 tablespoons milk V4 cup chopped nuts Sift together flour, baking pow der, soda and s$dt. Cream to gether shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, mixing n ' l ^ well. Add orange rind, lemon rind and vanilla extract. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture al ternately with bananas and milk. Fold in nuts. Fill greased 3-inch muffin pans two-thirds full. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees F.) about 25 minutes. Yield: About 14 3-inch cup cakes. Don’t try to put fresh pine- % apple in gelatin and expect the latter to jell. Pineapple contains an enzyme which peptisizes the gelatin.
