Scripture Text: Neh. 4:1-6, 13, 14, 21-23, 6:15, 16. Golden Text: “So built we the wall; ... for the people had a mind to work” Neh. 4:6. —The Application for Today— We have learned in previous lessons this quarter that Zerubba bel and Ezra were commissioned to build the Temple at Jerusalem. Today Nehemiah is appointed governor to rebuild Jerusalem’s walls. To that end a feeling of security is necessary to peace of mind. Just as soon as the work started, the enemies of Judah began to hinder the work, but Nehemiah exhorted the people to have real faith in God. “Be not afraid,” he said, “remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons and your daughters and your homes.” “Remember the Lord” would be a splendid motto for Christians to day. We are prone to look upon difficulties and enemies as things to hinder God’s will in our lives, instead of viewing them as events to make us “Remember the Lord” as our great defender. Let us lose ourselves in our work and say like Nehemiah, “I am doing a great work and can not come down.” The great trou ble with out church is that we are too easily discouraged. If God could see real zeal in his people, a revival would break forth that Satan could not cope with. 1 “A charge to keep I have A God to glorify, A Never dying soul to save And fit it for the sky. To serve the present day My calling to fulfill. Oh may it all my powers engage To do my Master’s will.” —C. Wesley. ---*—« Rev. 2:17. This was a communion service.
