Handy Subject—National Glory and De cay. Scriptur Text—1st Kings 1 to 11 Memory Verse—“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Prov. 3:5 The Lesson down to date— We are in these lessons wit nessing the rise and fall of a great nation when their leader and advisor is the Lord God of Hosts. Falling rapidly when their own might. David in spite of some mistakes made Israel a wonderful King because his heart was right. Up on his passing Soloman, his son took the throne. In the beginning, Solomon too, sought the favor ofGod. As long as Solomon served Jehovah, God heaped upon him honors that no j other monarch ever enjoyed. But Solomon loved power and set out to control the world by making alliances with other na tions. He hoped to do this by marrying into the royal families of their countries. So he had many wives. But these wives worshiped idols and they weaned Solomon away from the homage due to God, to their false Gods, so God left him to his own devices.. A nation cannot be a great nation if it excludes God or puts Him in a secondary place. A na tional policy built upon intrigue, bigotry and oppression of smaller nations and minorities is doomed to decay. Today' America is standing at the cross roads of her destiny. What road will she choose? Is she willing to grant the four freedoms to all or will she take the road of trying to control the destinies of the earth and go jdown like Israel did?
