* HOUSEHOLD HINTS By Mrs. Brevy Lilly Phone 2-4051 If you like cheese with apple pie you’ll surely want to try cheese with apple dumplings. Just tuck a cube of cheese in the center of each dumpling before baking. * * * * Corn Syrup Brownies 1 cup sifted flour Vi teaspoon baking powder Vi teaspoon salt Vz cup shortening Vz cup sugar || ^ Vi cup dark corn syrup 2 eggs, separated 2 squares unsweetened choco late, melted 4 1 teaspoon vanilla Vi cup milk Sift flour, baking powder and salt together, cream the shorten ing and sugar together stir in the corn syrup gradually, beating well, beat the egg yolks and add to the batter, stir in chocolate and vanilla, add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk beating well after each addition beat the egg whites until stiff and fold into the batter. Spread the mixture in a greased pap about 10x15 inches and bake in a mod f erately hot oven. Cool a few minutes and cut into bars, makes about 35 cookies. Chocolate Dandy Pie 2 tablespoons flour V4 teaspoon salt Vz cup sugar 2 tablespoons cornstarch 2 cups hot milk 2 squares chocolate 2 eggs, beaten 1 teaspoon vanilla Sift flour, sugar and cornstarch together combine with hot milk and cook until thick. Add the chocolate which has been broken into small pieces, continue cook ing until smooth, stir in eggs and cook one minute longer, cool, add vanilla and pour into baked shell. * * * ♦ Pastry Shell V/z cups flour 2 tablespoons powdered sugar Vz teaspoon salt Vz cup shortening 1 egg yolk 2 tablespoons cold water Sift the flour, sugar and salt together and work into the shortening, add the egg yolk and water to the first mixture.
