Young Jr., 19, of the Bronx has been nominated for appoint ment to the U. S. Military acade my at West Point by Rep. Ben jamin J. Rabin. Young is study ing now at the College of the City of New York and is said to be an excellent student. This is the first appointment of a colored boy from the Bronx to West Point and came as a surprise to the metropolitan area. -o We therefore welcome our Christmas in December. The “worship of Christ” could not have a better setting than amid the domestic festivities, social forces, and generous and man helping deeds of our Merry Christmas-tide. In no more fit ting way can we say farewell to the closing year, and all hail to the new' “Christ is born.” We therefore must put off the old man—his moroseness and selfiish ness, his sadness and despair, his peevishness and fretfulness, his feebleness decay—and put on the new man, which, after Christ is created in true joy, duty, devout obedience and death—daring self sacrifice. John Clifford. -o CARD OF THANKS We, Mr. and Mrs. Adams of the “Carver Nursing Home,” wish to thank Newman Church, for their wonderful Thanksgiving basket, the Seventh-Day Adventists, for their splendid Christmas basket, the Urban League Men’s Club for the lovely turkey, Mrs. Foster for her cake and peaches and Mr. Malone for the box of fruit and candy, and all others who con tributed to the home. Frick When New Year’s bells are pealing Glad music through the skies, And God speaks forth to all mankind— Then let our souls arise: To Him, Eternal Father, Lord of unfolding days, ^ Whose changeless love rules ages past, O world, to Him bring praise! The bells for Thee are ringing, Creator,of the years, Thou only canst our spirits guide Or banish crushing fears; Repentant of our sinning And humbled by Thy love, May all the world Thy purpose heed Like hosts of light above! The New Year’s bells are pleading God’s kingdom to begin, When holiness reigns o’er the earth And love has conquered sin. O man, now cease thy discord, ^ Let hate and strife be still, In service free for brother man Accept God’s wondrous will!
