• Teen Age Chatter Reporte’’, Dotty Greene i Thought-of-the-Week Be sure to keep your resolution ^when you make it. Along with Christmas came a host of carolers. One group I remember is the 4-H Club carol ers. They had several guests, included among them were Jean Malone, Dorothy Molden, Kathryn and Betty King and “Peaches” Winston. They all had a nice time. * * m * Jack—Do you know what a soph isticated girl is? Jae—Yes! She is a girl who knows how to refuse a kiss • without being deprived of it. * * * * Kathryn and Betty King have guests from Alliance, Nebraska, Beatrice and Tresa Motley. They will remain for an extended visit. * * * * I hear Billie Mosby has a new admirer. What about that Bill? * * * * Seen together Christmas day were R. H. and F. N.; B. B. and V. W.; and B. Bye now, “Dotty” A World of Books By Mrs. Edith Hickman Children who do not seem to care for books may often be at tracted to some unusual or differ ent book. There are novelty books for small children that would serve this purpose. “Fraidy Cat” by Marjorie Bur roughs is called a “Glowing-Eye Book.” A little cat has eyes on a button head that glow in a dark ened room. The pictures of the cat appear on every page, woven into a charming story of a little cat who overcame his many fears and was no longer a fraidy cat. “How Tinkle Got Her Bell” by Harpoe is an odd-shaped book with a small bell attached to the inside of the back cover. As the story moves toward the happy ending, the bell appears with the turning of each page ringing mer rily. On the very last page, Tin kle appears, the bell tied around her neck with a real red-ribbon bow. “What Is It?” by Anna Pistor ius is an unusual book, because it is really a game. On each page there are found small children asking questions about something in the illustrated background, that puzzles them. They always have to give up trying to answer their questions. Then someone suggests that they turn to a cer^ tain number on the dial on the back inside cover. The dial can be moved to the correct number and the correct answer is found. This book teaches many truths about animals, nature subjects, and even problems of everyday living. It is an amusing game that any number of children can play. Books that tell something about far away places are always inter esting. Even though one never travels that far away from home, the facts about these localities may be learned from books. “Alaska” by Clara Lambert will give young readers a vivid and exciting glimpse of this little known possession of the United States. It has twenty full pages in color by C. H. DeWitt. Some chapter headings are Northern Lights, Bears, Glaciers, Trapping and Hunting, Sea Beasts and Reindeer. “The Gold Rush” by Mary Mc Neer is the fascinating story of the stirring period when gold was discovered in California; and peo ple were rushing there by ox-cart, boat and covered wagon. They suffered great hunger and cold in an effort to reach the treasure there. Colorful illustrations by Lynn Ward add life to this thrill ing story. “There is a book for every child.” Oir Super Market 1717 R St. Phone 2-3160 Was formerly Hanley's Cash & Carry Market Full Line of PORK and BEEF at very reasonable prices Complete Line CLEANING and SANITATION SUPPLIES All Types Brooms—Furniture Polishes Mops—Floor Seal and Wax Sweeping Compounds Mopping Equipment Kelso Chemical Co. 117 North 9th St. 2-2434 It's not to late for Christmas Photos Lower Cost — One Day Service PHOTO NOOK 9 am. to 9 pan. and Sundays 1443 "O" Street Lincoln, Nebr.
