Mrs. John Johnson was called to Lawrence, Kansas Wednesday because of the death of an uncle. She will return Saurday. Spending the holidays in St. Louis, Mo., will be Mrs. Brevy Lilly, who will be the guest of her sister, Dr. XaCadene Hill. Mrs. Stella Hammond and her mother, Mrs. Falling, accompan ied by Billie Rutherford will t spend the holidays with Mrs. Hammond’s daughter, Mrs. Thel ma Rutherford of Washington, D. C. Mrs. Zeola Hammond will spend several days in Omaha during the Christmas holidays. Other holidays guest in Omaha will be Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Davis and son, Tommy, Mrs. Saddie Berry and Mrs. Virginia Fields. They will be the dinner guests of Mrs. Davis’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh King. Mrs. Evelyn McGinnis of Kan sas City, Mo., w'ill spend Christ mas with her mother, Mrs. John Irving. The Quinn Chapel A. M. E. * Senior choir party will be held at the home of Edith Hill, Monday night. Present will be exchanged. Mr. Charles Walker is a patient at a local hospital. He is reported somewhat improved. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Botts and daughter JoAnn will spend Christmas day with Mi'S. Bott’s uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Holliday of Omaha. Mrs. A. G. Smith will leave Sunday for Detroit to spend the holidays with her niece, Miss Florence Reed. Mr. J. H. Dean will help Mrs. Dean observe her birthday on Tuesday in connection with their ^ Christmas tree and exchange of gifts. Guests present will be Mr. and Mrs. Roland Young, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stith, Mr. Lawrence Dean, and Julius Cowan. Mr. and Mrs. George Randol will have a family reunion on Christmas day. A most colorful party was given by the Mary Bethune Literary and Art Club Thursday at the Urban League. Games were played and refreshments served followed by &n exchange of gifts. The Urban League Men’s club has made arrangements to give a turkey for Christmas dinner at the Carver Nursing Home. James Wadkins is president of the club. -o • I. B. P. O. E. W. Installation of officers will be held in January. --w Funeral Mr. Fred Douglas Forbes, 80, died Saturday, December 14, af ter an extended illness. He was a member of Quinn Chapel A. M. E. Church for more than 47 years. He is survived by two sons, Leonard in Lincoln and Burt of St. Joseph, Mo., one brother, Burt. Rev. R. E. Handy was in charge of the funeral and Mrs. Izetta Ma lone sang. Burial was in Wyuka. -o Grand Island News The funeral of Mr. Joseph Jackson was held at the Christian church at 2 o’clock on Thursday | of last week with Rev. W. M. Sunday December 22, Miss Spicer and her congregation will worship in a 3 o’clock service, with Rev. M. L. Shakespeare at Hastings, Nebraska. __ Hastings, Nebraska Mr. and Mrs. John Frazier will spend the holidays in Oklahoma City with friends and relatives. They expect to be out of the city about two weeks. Mr. M. L. Wilson is convales ing after an illness of several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Smith attend ed the funeral of Mr. Joseph Jackson in Grand Island, Thurs day. Rev. W. M. Green has returned from Kansas City after spending several days, there. -o Nebraska City News Mr. and Mrs. Herman Tapp have announced the birth of a baby boy, Herman Franklin Jr., born Tuesday, December 3, 1946. Mrs. Tapp is the former Pauline Adams. Returning to New York City recently was Mr. Wade Fields who spent several weeks with his mother, Mrs. Josephine Fields. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph W. Adams of Lincoln were recent visitors. The Sports Front With Smoky Sports fans who thrilled to the Goose in war years were able to once again see him in action. Goose dropped in 14 points to lead his team to a 46-26 win over the House of David. Not only did Goose lead the scoring attack but also furnished plenty of good entertainment for the fans. In the Urban League camp this week there has been no action as for games. The Junior Cagers have had several warm up games for their first game in the church league, which will be played on Thursday night at Irving School. Michigan's Len Ford chosen mem ber of 1946 All American Squad; Tom Harmon. 1940 Captain. Makes Team Selection CHICAGO — (ANP) Michigan’s right end, Len Ford, has been nominated for membership on the 1946 All American squad picked by Tom Harmon, 1940 team captain and winner of every important football award. Harmon, who was known as “Old 98—the Michigan Meteor” during his university days, said he picked the lone Negro nominee for inclusion on his 1946 team because “he was the answer to a passer’s prayers.” “Hands like a ham, he seldom dropped anything that came even close to him,” Harmon pointed out. “On defense, Ford practical ly always took the interference and also stopped the ball carrier.” The All-American team selec tions are scheduled to appear in person on Harmon’s “Here Comes Harmon” series aired by local stations nationwide.
