Vacationing in Denver, Colo., and Billings, Mont., last week were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph W. Johnson. They went by way of Casper, Wyo., and returned on Tuesday. Mrs. Tennessee Bowler and daughter, Gwendolyn left on Fri day for Los Angeles, Calif. They will remain through the Holidays. Mr. and Mrs. A. Durr will spend Thanksgiving in Arkansas y City, Kans. The Durrs, newcom ers to the city, formerly lived in Arkansas City. Mrs. G. W. Harper, who has been visiting in Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas will return this week end. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Adams of Nebraska City are now making their home in the city. Mr. Adams is employed with the Olson Con struction Company. Guest in the city are Mr. Alfred Haynes and Mr. Frank Kirtley of Omaha. They are working with Able Construction Company. Mr. Monroe Langford, who ^formerly lived here and Mr. John T Anderson are employed with the Dobson Construction Company. Former Chief engineer of Har graves Construction Company is Mr. Bill Nelson who is assisting with the Asphalt laying Machine with the Able Construction Com pany. A Fremont visitor in the city recently was, Mr. Sayers, former ly of Alliance, Nebraska Mrs. Alfred E. Sims left Mon day night for Baton Rouge, La., where she will visit her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ob bie Brown, Mr, Brown, a former student in the graduate college at Nebraska University is an in structor at Southern University. Mrs. Simms will remain indefi nitely. In the city recently were Mrs. Queen Jackson and neice, Joan, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Phillip all of Omaha. They came to see Mrs. Annetta Smith who has been ill at her home for sev eral weeks. Mrs. Smith is very much improved. Week end guests in the city recently, was Mr. John Bates of Kansas City, Mo., cousin of Mrs. Martha Howard. Guest of Mrs. John McWilliams Jr., and Mrs. Walter Gill for a week were their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Gardenhire of Alma, Kans. Mrs. McWilliams accom * panied them on their returned trip as far as Topeka where she remained for several days. Mrs. Hazel Smith Parnell is home after undergoing an opera -r .t —1 :—rr — ! tion at Lincoln General Hospital last Monday. She is reported as doing very well. Mr. E. G. Powell and his moth er motored from Chicago, Illinois, accompanied by his uncle, Mr. J. E. Johnson, who will make his future home in Lincoln. Jackie Hubbard was released from St. Elizabeth Hospital Sun day morning and is reported much improved. Mr. Charles Thompson, father of Miss Katherine Thompson, re ceived several fractures to his leg when he fell Saturday. He is now in St. Elizabeth Hospital. Rev. Riley Bell is still receiving medical treatment at his home. Mrs. Rosemary Butler has been receiving medical attention at her home for the past week. Mr. Aaron Knowles who was formerly stationed in Africa has arrived in the city. All girls between 14 and 19 who are interested in Basketball meet “Casey” at the “Urban League at 7:30 Tuesday. Club 21, met at the home of Mrs. Lucille Wright with Mrs. Lillian Powell hostess. The club selected Pink Camellias for their flower, and sea shell pink and pea green as their colors. First prize was awarded Mrs. Ruth Green, and booby prize was received by Mrs. Verta Finley. Hostess for November 27 will be Mrs. Constance Winston. By Howard “Smoky” Molden Once more the old cry is out, “I’m going to beat Joe Louis.” This time it comes from the lips of Elmer (Violent) Ray, who last Friday defeated Jersey Joe Woll cott. Ray won the fight by deci sion, but from what I can gather he is far from ready for the Bomber Joe. As one sport writer put it, and I quote, “He is as far from being a suitable challenger for Joe Louis as the United Na tions is from settling World af fairs. Manger Leo Durocher was ask ed if Jackie Robinson would get a fair trial by the Dodgers next year. Dorocher said, “Positively and definitely yes. This season Jackie made a great reputation when playing for the Montreal Royals, he batted 349 to lead the league in hitting, batted in sixty-five runs and scored 116 runs himself and stole forty-one bases. When the Dodgers open spring training in Havanna next spring, all eyes will be focused in that direction because this is when we will find Jackie making his bid for a spot in the big Leagues. Christmas Day will be the scene of another great Bowl game. This will be the Chocolate Bowl game which is to be played in Dallas, Texas. The Champion from the Southwest conference and anoth er outstanding eleven from either CIAA or midwest conference. This week we find our own Huskers preparing to establish a beach head on the gridiron of the Oklahoma Sooners and then add the finishing touch to a dazzling season at U. C. L. A.
