The lack of public and pri vate machinery to integrate the newcomers into normal commun ity life. 3. The overcrowded housing and inadequate recreational, travel and health facilities. 4. Liberal communities accep ing racial prejudices of newcom ers 5. Scarcity of teamwork be tween white and Negro leaders to spot the danger signs and plan corrective measures. Altogether these problems exist, there can be no doubt that there are some people who are thinking and want to meet them fully, honestly, democratically. We all believe that wre should meet the problem and work not as colored people for the narrow benefit of any group alone, but together as American citizens for all. Deep in our hearts we feel that “the world is perishing for kind ness” and that the true answer lies in plain mutual understand ing and consideration - - mutual respect and cooperation. Furthermore, we know that whe ther you are deeply interested in the problem for the moment- -or whether you fear what may hap pen in the future, you will sup port any effort to bring about “enlightened racial cooperation.” How can we -make this kindness effective in the world today? How can we change “enlighted cooperation” from words to acts? Realizing that there is no magic we can start with the: URBAN LEAGUE WAY Having been established since since 1932, the Lincoln Urban League has transferred the idea of interracial cooperation from a a mere academic formula into vigorous reality.
