Davis of Lin coin were honored guests at a din ner party given at the home of .their daughter Wednesday at noon, the oc casion being their 45th wedding an niversary. Several guests who attend ed the Davis wedding were present, among them being Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Davis from Murray and Mr. and Mrs. Troy L.. Davis of Weeping Water. The valentine motif was carried out in the table appointments and spring flowers were used as a centerpiece. Girl Scout Dance The Rambler's Patrol or the Girl Scouts of Plattsmouth gave a dance last evening at the Eagles hall. A large crowd attended. The dance was for the high school and junior high schoul students. The Avalon orchestra played for the occasion. The purpose of the dance was to enable the Girl Scouts to attend Camp Brewster near Omaha next summer. Each one of the Girl Scouts was given the privilege of inviting one married couple as a chaperon to the dance. Mrs. James Mauzy had charge of the affair. Receives a Surprise A number of the friends and neighbors gathered last evening and tendered a surprise party on Julius Pitz. who observed his seventieth birthday anniversary. Mr. Pitz was just preparing to make some of his t'sual lovely willow baskets that he has made for the past several months, when the party of friends and neigh bors had slipped in and certainly rurprised him. All came with laden baskets which contained a variety cf food. The evening was rpent in playing cards, pinochle being the chosen frame. A jolly good time was had by nil present. From Friday's Dally Wednesday Afternoon Club The Wednesday Afternoon Bridge club met at the home of Mrs. Robert Reed at the Herold apartments. Mrs.. James Mauzy was awarded the first prize, and Mrs. Theodore Ptak was awarded the second prize. Refreshments were served by the hostess. Fa-Monthly Pinochle Club- Miss Marie Horn was nostess 10 the Bi-Monthly Pinochle club at her home Thursday evening. Miss Helen Smetana was the win ner of first prize, and Mrs. Edith Vandervcort captured the second prize. Miss Horn then served refresh ments to all present. Delta Deck Club Mrs. Lora Kieck entertained the Delta Deck Bridge club at a valen tine party at her home last evening. Mrs. Lillian Livingston was' the win ner of the first prize, ' and Miss Amelia Martens was awarded the second prize. Following the party refreshments oT ice cream and cake were served. A large cake with decorations of red candles and a beautiful bouquet of red roses formed the centerpiece of the table, which made a very attrac tive valentine theme. St. Mary's Guild and Auxiliary The St. Mary's Guild and Aux iliary cf the St. Luke's church met at the home of Mrs. J, M. Roberta at 817 Main street., 'Despite the dis agreeable weather a large attendance was present. The regular business " meeting . ot the two organizations was discussed during the afternocn. : Following the business . meeting Mrs. Roberts served a delicious lunch eon. 1 Shower for Mrs. Iverson- Mrs. Rudolph Iverson was an honored guest at a stork shower tendered her last evening ' at the home of Mrs. Walter Tritsch at the Coronado apartments. A number of the young women were present to honor Mrs. Iverson. Refreshments were served imme diately' following the' party. Missionary Society Meets - ; The Women's . Foreiga Missionary society of the Methodist 'church met Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs... Ray MeMaken h.i the Coronado apartments. Mrs. J. C. Lowson had charge of the lesson which was the study of India.' The regular business meeting was held. Plans were also discussed for the observance of the World 'Day' of Prayer which is to be held on Feb ruary 24. Following the meeting refresh ments were served by the hostess, Mrs. MeMaken. Thursday Afternoon Bridge Club The Thursday Afternoon Bridge club held a Valentine party at the home of Mrs. Carl J. Schneider on 910 Elm street. The occasion was the observance of the ninth anniversary- of the founding of the club. and a large group of the members were present. The Schneider, home "was the scene of the beautifully decorated rooms, the Valentine theme being carried out in the decorations which consisted of red roses and hearts. The bridge prizes for the afternoon were awarded to Mrs. William Schmidtmann, Jr., who won first prize, and Mrs. John Sattler, Jr., who won second prize. . A special prize was given to the woman who- re ceived : 100 - honors In hearts first. and this prize was given to Mrs. William Schmidtmann. Jr. , Following the -enjoyable afternoon of bridge, refreshments, were served by Mrsr Schneider. . Wedded in the South Of interest to Cass county residents is the wedding of Miss Beatrice Everett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J, II. Everett of Mendenhall, Miss., to Anson Hoisington Sheldon, son of Mr. and Mrs. . George L. Sheldon of Greenville.. Miss., which took, place Feb. 5 at 3 p. m. at Bellevue Baptist church in Memphis. Dr. Robert G. Lee officiated in the presence of close . friends. The bridegroom's father. -a native son of Cass county, and former Nehawka resident. Is a former governor of Nebraska, having been elected in 1907. The bride was attired in a wine costume suit trim med .with natural lynx fur. Her shoulder corsage was of pink rose buds and lilies of -the valley. Miss Virginia - LIttrell of ' Memphis was her only attendant and she wore a black crepe dress with mustard yel low accessories. Her corsage was of yellow rosebuds.- Robert Gray was best man. The couple will take a trip to the gulf coast and New Or leans and upon their return will be at home at Mr. Sheldon's plantation home at James, Miss. Junior C. D. of A. Meets The Junior Catholic Daughters of America met Thursday evening at the home of their sponsor, Mrs. Wil liam Woolcott. Despite the bad weather a large number of the young ladles were present. A business meeting was held dur ing the evening In which plans for the Initiation 4 of new members were discussed by the members. Neighborhood Club .Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Lohnes were host and hostess to the Neighborhood Pinochle club last evening at their home at 302 South 9th street. Three tables of pinochle were play ed and the winners of the gentle men's division were Leslie Niel, who won first prize and John C. Woest who' won the. secpnd prize. In the ladies' division, Mrs. John Alwin was the winner of the high prize and Mrs. Augusta Haupt was the winner of second prize. Following the party refreshments wore served. Nu-Fu Jitters Mis Marjorie Fitch was hostess to the Nu-Fu Jiters last evening at the home of her parents. All of the members of the club were present. As usual the evening was spent in playing pinochle and the awards of the evening were given to Miss Louise Fitzmayer who won first prize, and Miss Fitch who won second prize. Following the party refreshments were served by Miss Fitch. The next Nu-Fu Jitters' party will be held at the home of Miss Louise Fitzmayer on Friday evening, Feb ruary 24. BIBLE STUDENTS ORGANIZE The Junior Bible students of the Independent . Churciw of Christ met Monday evening at the nome 01 Dana and Audrey Baird in the south part of the city for the purpose of electing officers fcr the coming year. The officers chosen for the present year were: Dana Baird, president; Delbert Schwenneker, vice-president; Neil Lancaster, secretary-treasurer. Neil Lancaster was also re-elected as organist and Miss Jean Johnson was chosen as song leader. Plans for the coming year were discussed by all present. JOLLY WORKER S CLUB Jolly Workers club met at the home of Mrs. Wallace Warner with ull members present, A short busi ness meeting was held and the rest ol the afternoon was spent in pin t.chle. The high score went to Mr3. Ed Tritsch and low to Mrs. Edgar Mei3inger. Mrs. Warner served a very delic ious lunch. . Next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Ed Tritsch. SHOWS IMPROVEMENT John Janda. brother of Mrs. Frank Slavicck of this city, is showing rapid improvement at his home in Omaha from the effects of a severe illness that he has suffered for the past few days. Dr. Pecinovsky of Vailey Falls, Kansas administered medical care to Mr. Janda and who relieved him of his serious illness. DIES IN OMAHA From Wednesday's Pally The message was received here to day of the death in Omaha today of Charles Ellington, who was a resi dent here in Cass county in his younger years. Reeder, director of the Cass County Women's chorus, and Mrs. Roy Cole, pianist, and two of the chorus members drove from Plattsmouth to Alvo where the chorus appeared last night for a r. T. A. meeting. A large number attended the meeting. The guest speaker of the evening was Dr. Oscar Werner from the Uni versity of Nebraska. The chorus, was heard, in four numbers, . "Stars of the Summer Night," "Pixies Carnival," "God of 11 Nature," and "Chiribirbin," which was very much enjoyed by all present. r VISITS IN OMAHA Mr. and Mrs. D. Schultz and son James motored here Sunday from their home at Council Bluffs to spend the afternoon with Mrs. Schultz' mother who has been quite poorly the past week and not in the best of health. But upon arrival here Sun day they found the mother able to be up and feeling somewhat stronger, which Mrs. Schultz was pleased to know and she as well as her other relatives hopes to see her keep im proving until she is again complete ly rccovered. YOUNGSTERS STAGE GAME That basketball material Will not be lacking in the local high school in several years, was shown last night in the preliminary game staged by pupils of the seventh and eighth grades. There were six teams in ac tion during the game that Anally re sulted in the blues winning 2S to 23. Coach Hoffman U3ed all of the kid players from the largest to the smallest and who enjoyed very much the. opportunity of showing- their skill on ths floor. SUFFERS A STROKE Mrs. Benno Seydlitz, who makes her home In the east part of the city, suffered a- severe stroke Tues day morning and has been quite ill since that" time. At her advanced age, the stroke makes her condition quite serious. The many friend3 of Mrs. Seydlitz are sad to learn of her illness and hops that she may soon rally and be able to resume her usual household duties. HARRIET CASE IMPROVING Miss Harriett Case, daughter of A. R. Case, is showing improvement at her home after a serious illness that she has suffered for the past few days. Her. sister, Mrs. Harold Chandler is administering personal care to the sister. A. project sponsored by the board of education in demolishing of the old high school building. Mr. Houston states that he ha3 forty boys who are ready to start work on this project next week. Mr. Houston's area covers six coun ties: Cass, Otoe, Nemaha, Johnson, Pawnee, and Richardson. VISITS IN SOUTH Mr. and Mrs. Francis B. Toman are spending a short time , in the south during the vacation of Mr. Toman and in which time they ex pect to visit a number of the beauty spots of that part of the country. GOES TO VENEZUELA Raymond Williams, better known to his friends as "Red" Williams, has been transferred to a new posi tion in Maracaibo, Venezuela In South America where he . will be connected with the Raymond Con crete Pile company at Its quarters there. Mr. Williams is well known in Plattsmouth, be having been em ployed here with the A. W. Farney company and now the Waterways Construction company for the past several years. Mr. Williams has made his home here for some time but at the present time has resided at Mondamln, Iowa. Mr. Williams will leave New York for South America by airplane Wed nesday.
