Treasurer Walter H. Jensen said to
day tax pavers need not be alarmed
by the deficit of approximately $400,
000 in the frer.eral fund."
"This deficiency, it should be un
derstood, is net caused by any de
partment or institution overspending
their appropriation but rather from
over-estimation of the percentages to
be realized from the collection of
taxes" Jensen said.
"Delinquent taxes at this time will
more than eliminate the amount mentioned."

JOB PLACEMENTS GREATER
LINCOLN, July 11 (UP) The
Nebraska state employment service
today reported a 12 per cent gain in
private job placements over May and
said June was the fourth consecutive
month to show an increase.
Jobs were obtained for 3.9C7 per
sons in June, about one-third in pri
vate industry. Private placements,
however, wero considerably under
the same month last year.
Jobs in public industry increased
3752 per cent due principally to
numerous highway and public power
and irrigation projects started dur
ing the month.
FRANK D ARROW HERE
Frank T. Darrow, chief engineer
of the Burlington, was in the city
Tuesday afternoon to look over the
flood conditions in the Missouri val
ley territory of the Burlington and
incidentally calling on the old time
friends.
The Burlington has been affected
by the high water on the Kansas
City-Council Bluffs line in the vi
cinity of Bartlett, Iowa, and which
has caused delay in train service
through the necessit for detours.
JUDGE YEAGER HERE
he will enter the A. I. T. institute, one
of the largest in the country. He will
find an old friend at this training
school in Herbert Minor, who has
been there for several months. He
will also have the pleasure of being
with his sister. Mis Kmily Lorenz,
who has been located at Long Beach
for the past two years.

James, Jr.. Ruth Margaret and
Martha Jane of Lincoln. Mr. Becker
is a brother of Mrs. Bishop and is
head of the Nebraska Child Welfare
association.
TO ENJOY CAMPING TRIP
From Wednesday's rally
Judge John W. Yeager of Omaha,
was in-the city today for a few hours
in the interest of his candidacy for
chief justice of the supreme court.
Judge Yeager is a member of the
fourth district bench and one of the
l ablest jurists in the state. He has
held court here frequently and his
ability on the bench has been well
recognized by members of the local
bar.
VISIT AT MASONIC HOME
James Mauzy, Jr., John and Rich
ard Soennichsen are to spend a ten
day camping trip at Camp Stander,
near Crete, Nebraska, one of the
most attractive spots in this section
of Nebraska. They were taken to
camp by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Soenich
sen Sunday.
RETURN FROM OHIO
?Ir. and Mrs. A. A. Thorp and
Wayne Hagmann, all of Thayer, were
here Sunday to visit with Samuel
Barrett, uncle of Mrs. Thorp, who is
at he Nebraska Masonic Home. Mr.
Barrett had his visitors as guests at
th. Home to enoy the fine repast.
This was the first time since March
22nd that the members of the family
had met and the afternoon was
spent in visiting.
CARD OF THANKS

Mr. and Mrs. Val Burkle returned
home this morning from Portsmouth,
Ohio, where they were in attendance
at the funeral of their sister. Miss
Christine Burkle. They also stopped
in Chicago to visit their son, Robert
Burkle.
UNDERGOES OPERATION
Henry F. Goos, who has been at
Omaha at the Methodist hospital for
the past few days, was operated on
Monday afternoon and at last reports
was doing as well as could be ex
pected in such a short time. The
operation was quite serious.
We wish to thank all of our old
friends and neighbors in Plattsmouth
for their kindly words of sympathy
and acts of kindness in the time of
our sorrow at the death of our sister.
We also wish to thank all those who
assisted at the funeral services and
made our grief less severe. Mr. and
Mrs. Val Burkle.
