Norma Wilte, -who is attending: a normal school was a visitor over the week end at the home of her par ents. Harold Wiles, who resides on the highway oast of Manley was shelling and delivering his 1937 corn crop to the Manley elevator. Herbert Rohrdanz was in Manley Wednesday morning securing mater ials for the placing of a new roof on his brooder house. John Rohrdanz and family were guests for the day and at a very fine dinner last Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. "Win. Rohrdanz. The infant babe of John Sheehan has been ill with an attack of pneu monia and although every effort is being made on its behalf, recovery is very slow. Mr. and Mrs. John C. Rauth were at Avoca last Monday, where Mrs. Kauth was enjoying a visit during! the afternoon with her friend. Mrs. J Carl O. Zaiser. Mr. and Mrs. Rav "Wiles were in Lincoln late last week, where they I secured their daughter, Mearle. andj home for a visit of a week. Ernest Tttcrback. of New London. Mo., was visiting at the William Sheehan, Sr.. home over the week end. He returned to his home in Missouri Sunday evening. Frank II. Slander and daughter. Miss Lillian, were visiting in Man ley last Monday, Mr. Slander look ing after business matters while Miss Lillian visited friends. George Meyers, who had his eye injured some time since, when he got dirt in it. after treatment at the hospital is reported as getting along JKUIJ Lilt. HlJllltM V'UV, in v it improved. Robbie McDonald and wife, with their little babe were in Murray andj Plattsmouth last Tuesday, where! they were visiting with relatives for the day and looking after some busi ness matters. They were accompan ied by Mrs. O. E. McDonald. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Tighe. of Her man. Nebraska, who were called to Imperial. Nebraska, by the death of Mrs. Lyle P.onner, on their return Monday stopped at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Rauth for a short visit, Tors. Rauth being a sister of Mr. Tiglie. They were accompanied by Louis Todd, father oi Mrs. Bon ner, who was going with the party to Nehawka for a time. Considering- Free Movies The business men of Manley getting together last week in a meeting with the intention of were mass con- trading for free moving pictures for Manlev during the summer season. Attempt at Burglary Some unknown party or parties attempted to force the lock on the garage of Aug Krecklow last Mon day evening and also cut off the air hose from his free air machine and rolling it up dropped same in the road instead of carrying it away. Have Moved to Omaha Rev. T. Hart man, who for more than a quarter of a century has been pastor of the Lutheran church on the township line north of Manley, has been forced to resign his pastorate due to ill health. For some time, Rev. Hart man has been in an Omaha hospital anil several weeks ago, as his wife was en route to the hospital to visit him. she was the victim of an automobile accident that has al so impaired her health. The Hart mans have taken an apartment in Omaha and will reside there. The forced resignation of Rev. Ilartman comes as a great disappointment to members of the congregation, many of whom have grown to manhood and womanhood under his pastorate and will greatly miss him at the church services and activities. No one has been secured as yet to II 1 1 the place his resignation makes vacant. Visited at Neligh Messrs and Mesdames Ralph Keck ler of Weeping Water and Herman Rauth, of east of Manley, made a trip last Sunday to a number of towns in northeast Nebraska. Going by way of Fremont they continued on to Norfolk, Battle Creek, Meadow Grove, Tilden and Neligh, at which place they spent a part of the day, enjoying a fine dinner there and re turning home in the evening. Visited Friend in Hospital John Slander and wife and Mrs. Andrew V. Stander were in Platts mouth last Monday, where they were looking after business matters and visiting relatives. Picking tip Misses Anna and Cecelia Palacek at Platts- mouth, they went cn to Omaha, to visit Miss Rena Christensen, who is convalescing from an operation she underwent at the University hos pital in Omaha. Visited Rena Christensen Miss Rena Christensen, who has been in the hospital at Omaha for some time, having undergone an op eration there from which she is re covering very satisfactorily, enjoyed visits last week from a number of relatives and friends, among them Mrs. Herman Rauth, her sister, and Mcsdames Harry Haws. R. Bergmann and Ralnh Keckler. Mrs. Keckler i drove the ladies up in her car. Enjoyed Very Fine Visit Misses Betty and Mary Alice Ault of Plattsmouth were guests from Thursday morning until Sunday af ternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. E. McDonald and at the home of Robert and Julia McDonald, where they enjoyed a very delightful house party which was given by Mrs. Julia McDonald in honor of her visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Robert McDonald and Mrs. Oscar McDonald took their guests home Sunday afternoon in orfier that they might resume their studies Monday morning. City A double wedding ceremony took place at Nebraska City last week. The principals were Ray Hansen and Miss Ruth De Baer and Kenneth i Wallace and Miss Mar: All of the contracting well known in Wabash. ;arct Poole, parties are Will Visit Here for Time Miss Edith Able, formerly a resi dent of the vicinity of Wabash, but for some time a missionary to China, who has been on furlough the past year,, leaving there before the be ginning of the Japanese armed in vasion, and who now resides at Columbus, visited her friend, Miss Myrtle Wood for several days last week, and enjoyed meeting old ac quaintances here. While she was in this part of the state she made a trip to Plattsmouth for a visit at the J. II. Graves home, she and Mrs. Graves being cousins. Miss Abel had arrangements made to return to China some months ago but with the war-like conditions her passport was canceled by the gov ernment. She now expects to leave for the far East some time in June. Had Family Gathering Relatives of Mr. and Mrs. II. II. Gerbeling were gathered at the home in Wabash last Monday, bringing some sort of garden tools, mostly rakes, which they used in cleaning up the lawn about the home. The feaves and dried grass were removed and burned, and when the job was finished, the lawn presented a fine appearance. Mr. Gerbeling said as he sat and watched the progress of the beautification of the home, that "when the women folks take charge of anything, the best thing to do is to just keep still and watch the proceedings." DEATH OF COUSIN AT MITCHELL, SOUTH DAKOTA From Saturday's Daily Mrs. Elmer Webb received a mes sage late yesterday conveying news of the death of her cousin, Mrs. Ar thur Reierson, at Mitchell, S. D. Mr. and Mrs. Reierson visited at the Webb home twice last winter, first while en route south for a tour of Old Mexico and again on their way home. They had planned another south ern trip early in March that was to have brought them this way and had ' their car packed and ready to start, when Mrs. Reierson decided to make a visit to one of the stores for some forgotten article. As she stepped from the elevator onto a mat, she slipped and fell, shattering the bones in one of her arms. She was rushed to a Mitchell hospital and although i the message did not state, it is pre- sumed this fall was the contributory cause of her death. I The deceased lady was formerly j Klma Hoist, daughter of the late I Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hoist, of West I Point, Nebr., where her father was for many years engaged in the hard ware business. Following the death of her parents, she went to Mitchell ... to reside witn tin aunt, ana mere met and was married to Mr. Reier son. She was an accomplished mu sician and prior to her marriage had conducted a musical conservatory at Mitchell, teaching piano. Resides her husband, she is sur vived by a brother. Fred, of West Point, Nebr., numerous cousins and more distant relatives. It was just a year ago this week hat she and her husband stopped here en route home from their Mex ican trip. ( The program was participated in by the young people who are to at tend the district contest at Fremont today and Saturday mid who gave the numbers that they are to pre sent there. FUND IS RECOVERED The famous campaign fund which was purloined from one of the local eouiuilmanic candidates a few days ago, was recovered Wednesday aft ernoon by Chief of Police Joe Liber shal in a daring raid on a parked car on South Sixth street. The box with the fund intact was found in the luggage carrier of a coupe that had been left parked by its owner and followed a hot tip re ceived by the candidate and the offi cer as to the identity of the party that might have the box. It i3 needless to say that the box is now safely stowed away under lock and key until time to unloosen it in the city campaign. Green wood Clyde Newkirk spent last week end at home. Mrs. Lulu Ilurlbut visited Ed Hurlbut at Waverly Friday. Miss Hazel Trunkenbolz is as sisting with work at the Richards cafe. Mrs. Walter Holt had a siege of flu the past week, but is feeling better. Mrs. George McClure was taken to the hospital in Omaha on Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Gail Pollard called on Mr. and Mrs. Glen Peters Thurs day evening. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Malchow of Stella, Nebr., were in Greenwood last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Rex refers of Mur dock are returning to Greenwood to make their home. Phillip and Art Reece drove to Savannah last Wednesday, where they visited relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brockhaga, of Ashland, spent last Sunday after noon at the Glen Peters home. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Peters spent Wednesday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brockhaga in Ashland. Mr. Lapham, who has been quite sick with pneumonia, was taken to an Omaha hospital Tuesday even ing. Mrs. Leon Foulhaber of Thedford, Nebr., came Monday evening for a visit with her daughter, Mrs. James Brown. Miss Ruth Harmon came home on Thursday to spent spring vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Har vey Harmon. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brockhaga and family of Ashland were Sun day dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Brockhaga. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Brown moved to a farm near Ashland last week. Mrs. Jo Brown moved in the place vacated by them. The Greenwood school board held a meeting last Friday night. All the teachers were ! re-elected for the coining school term. Lyle Armstrong came home from the hospital last Sunday. He is able to get around on (hutches. Every one wishes him a speedy recovery. Miss Woitzel. Miss Mae, Evelvn 1 Trunkenbolz, Lois Cope, Victta Card and Josephine Lewis attended the music contest iii'FYemont Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Stansky and daughter of Omaha visited at the George Trunkenbolz and J. C. Hart sock homes during the past week. The Ladies Card club entertained their husbands at the Legion hall. Mrs. Edna Clymer, Mrs. Walter Holt and Mrs. Vivian Cope were the hos tesses. Orval Stevenson of San Diego, Calif., visited his uncle, Arthur Stevenson in Lincoln the past week. He called on old friends in Green wood. There was a, good attendance at the Dorcas meeting Friday despite the disagreeable weather. Mrs. Wm. Franks and Mrs. Loyd Jeffery enter tained. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hurlbut and family of Fremont took dinner with Mrs. Lulu Ilurlbut last Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Lumbers and daughter of Fremont and Mr. and Mrs. James Bright and Shirley were dinner guests at the Travis Cameron home last Sunday in honor of Shir ley's birthday. Cribble's grocery store celebrated their fifth anniversary in Greenwood the past week. Sandwiches and coffee were served Wednesday afternoon, and there was a free movie at the Masonic hall that night. Card Club Meets The Deal-a-Deck club met at the home of Lillian Jardine on Thurs day, March 31st. Lottie Bright won high score and Marguerite Leaver won low. A de licious lunch was served by the hos tess. Vivian Cope was a guest. The next meeting will be with Marguer ite Leaver and Adeline Gustafson at Adeline's home. Miss Verle Marie Griffith, daugh ter of Dan Griffith, and Develin V. Roper, of Ashland, were married at the Christian church parsonage in Plattsmouth on March 26. The mar riage lines were read by Rev. J. W. Taenzler. The couple will make their home in Ashland, where Mr. Roper is engaged as a trucker. Obituary Mrs. Elizabeth Brockmuller, who lived on a farm southwest of Green wood, died March 23 in a Lincoln hospital, at the age of 78. There sur vive her passing, the husband, Hen ry Brockmuller, six sons, two daugh ters, a brother and many other rela tives and friends. The sons are: Herman of Gardner, N. D. ; Otto, of Lewellen. Nebr.; Henry, Jr., of Hills dale, Wyoming; William, of Sioux City; Ernest, of Elm wood, and Carl of Waverly. The daughters arc: Mrs. Mary Timm of Ashland and Mrs. Lena Buck of Murdock. The brother is George Dierkson of Murdock. Funeral services were held at two o'clock Sunday afternoon at the home and at three o'clock at the Lutheran church north of Murdock, with burial in the church cemetery.
