Miss Laura McReynolds, postmis tress at Xehawka was spending the week end with friends in Omaha, re turning home on Tuesday. Hallas Akin and wife of Syracuse were visiting at the home of the par ents of Mrs. Akin, Mr. and Mrs. El mer Philpot over the week end. C. R. Troop of Xehawka was a visitor north of Xehawka on last Monday looking after some business on his many farms in that neighbor hood. A. G. Cisney was sawing wood on last Saturday, getting not only suf-t ficient for the remainder of the win-J ter but for the coming summer as Don rhilpot and Granville Heebner were in Omaha last Monday after-j noon where they were looking after j tome business matters for a short! time. George Trunkenbolz, president of the Trunkenbolz Oil company and son. Arthur were looking after busi ness matters in Xehawka Friday of last week. Lyle Kruger was working for a few days in Xebraska City, assisting in the moving of the house hold goods j of a friend who formerly resided in Xehawka. ,Mr. and Mrs. Roy Gregg were en joying a visit for a few days from their daughter. Hazel, who resides at Grand Island, who was accompanied by her little daughter. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Steffcns and Mrs. Mollie Maguey and K. H. Xor ris and wife were guests for the day last Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Curl Tefft near Avoca. i James Lemon and wife of I-.t tile-1 wood. J. J. Lohnes who has been here ful some time from his home at Grant, in the western part of the state, on ac count of the very extreme illness ot the wife, who is at the home of her j daughter, Mrs. Luther Wamacl:, with! the improvement of the health of his wife, returned to his work in thr! west last Saturday. i Produced Wonderful Entertainment.! The Xehawka schools who have been preparing an operetta for some time and which has gripped the in terest of the students, was put on at the Xehawka opera house on Tuesday of this week. There was a large and very interested crowd present to en-1 joy the operetta w hich the students j under the instructions of the mem- j hers of the faculty had prepared the public. for Entertained Woman's Club. Mrs. A. F. Sturm, assisted by Mrs. J. J. Bollard entertained the members! of the Xehawka Woman's club at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sturm last Fri day when an excellent program was had, following which the ladies in attendance were entertained with some delightful refreshments. Mrs. Johnson Some Better. Mrs. Beter Johnson who has been so ill at her home near Xehawka and has been nursed by her daughter, Mrs. Selrua Xelson is reported as be ing some better and with hopes of a continuation if the improvement, which is excellent news for the many friends. Visit in Murray Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Burton were visiting in Murray last Sunday with Joseph If. Burton, father of Mark, who is very ill and has been routined to his home and bed for a number of months. They also visited with Mr. and Mrs. John J. Stones, Mrs."Stones being their daughter. Anderson oi Omaha entertained last Sunday and had as their guests Albert Andeison and family of Xehawka as well as !the family of Dan Anderson and Louis j Ross from the country south, Fred Marquardt and wife of Avoca, Mr. and Mrs. K. V. White of Louisville and Mrs. Ralph R. Stander of Wel sey, Kansas. A very pleasant gather ing was had by all the party. Will Make Tour of Country. Laverne Steffens. student at Doane college at Crete, and member of the a,-capella chorus, are soon to make a tour of the country, singing at a vacation which begins during March and touching York, Grand Island, Al bion, X'eligh, Omaha, and Onawa, Iowa. Nominate City Ticket. The coming election lias created! considerable interest and at a caucus recently the following ticket was j placed in nomination, there being J three members of the city board to be elected, six being placed in nom I ination. Kuutz. i New Hardward Store. i With the closing oi' the hardware 'sure of Henry Wessell a short time I ago. the city was left w ithout a store in this line and it seemed that one I was required, and considering the I matter from many points, Granville Heebner, who is already in the ini- plement business, decided to combine this business with -a hardware store, j secured the place were Mr. Wessell j had been, getting it in readiness for :the new line. Gerald Shader has been j getting the building in readiness for j the opening. Mr. Heebner will use his old place of business for a ware house. Beg Was Homesick. Albert Oaks and wife who made j their home at France, Minn., with their dog, a German shepherd, and which had been there for some time, was taken with them to Fairbury, Xebraska, where the folks went to spend the winter with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Epheium Oaks. The dog sat in the back seat of the car on the trip to Xebraska, some S50 miles and when the party arrived the dog seemed discontented and in a short time disappeared, and while a diligent search was made no trace of the faithful animal could be found. Alter a few days Mr. Albert Oaks received a letter from the old home j in Minnesota, telling him the dog jhad arrived at the home and would ! be cared for by the neighbors until Mr. and Mrs. Oaks arrived home. The animal was evidently homesick for the old home and returned. A great instinct directed him, as he had S50 miles to travel, with noth ing to guide him except a few glances he was able to get as he was being brought on his trip to Xebras ka. Candidates for School Board Tuesday night the voters of the Xehawka consolidated school dis trict held a caucus to place in nomi nation four candidates for members :'t the board of education-, from which two are to be selected at the election on April 0th to serve on the board for terms of three years. Smith of Lincoln has ac cepted a position with Thomas Xelson as housekeeper and began work there last Friday. J. Frans was in Union last Tues day where he was papering a house for Mrs. Laura Reynolds on the farm southwest of town. A. G. Long and family were in Omaha last Sunday, guests for the day at" the home of their son, Mr. Lester (Joe) Long. W. Switzer of near Union was call ed to Murray last Monday, looking after some business matters at the Murray lumber yard. H. T. Daley and wife of Platts- mouth were in Murray last Monday looking after some business matters at the Murray lumber yard. The W. S. Smith store is sporting a very line and highly colored awn ing which is adding much to the appearance of the business house. Rev. 11. A. McKelvey of Mynard was a caller in Murray last Monday afternoon, having some business mat ters to look after at the Murray lum ber yard. Roy Cole and family of Weeping Water were visiting in Murray and Blattsmouth last Monday, having some business matters te look after. During the past week Lucean Car per has sold and delivered three new tractors, they going to Charles Gar rison of near Union, James Terry berry and A. 1). Geary. Mr. and Mrs. R. Clarke McKee of Randolph, Iow a, w ere guests at the home of the parents of Mrs. McKee, Rev. Xeil Stuart and wife for a few days during the past week. Mrs. Hobart Blake with her lit tle daughter were enjoying a very pleasant visit last Sunday at the J home of her brother, Lester Chris ! tian at Elmwood last Sunday. Reports from Mrs. George Troop who is at the institution at Kearney receivjng treatment, is to the effect that she is much the same as in the past and is feeling slightly better. Otto Wohlfarth of Blattsmouth was looking after some business in Mur ray Monday of this week and at the same time the wife was visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Keil. Will S. Smith has been feeling very poorly and was only able to hobble about with the excessive pain which the rheumatism brought him, having to resort to the use of a cane in the store. Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Read, Earl Lan caster and wife and Mr. and Mrs. Verle Smith made a merry party who last Sunday were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Read where all enjoyed a very fine visit and an excellent dinner. Frank Rhoelen was a visitor in Murray for a numbers of days lately and assures us that in the near fu ture the oil well which has had the tower erected on the former farm of T. W. Yallery, will be removed to the farm of Wm. Patterson on the high way and that work of drilling will start in the spring. Will Depart First of Month. Eugene G ruber, who has taker, the examination for entrance in the U. S. Xavy, is to depart for the training station at San Diego California about the first of April. He has completed all arrangements for entrance. ' Gave Benefit Dance. There was a benefit dance given at the hall last Saturday night, under the auspices of the Murray volunteer fire department, which resulted in a good sum for the fire fighters. Entertained for Supper. Mrs. Yesta Clarke, manager of the Murray telephone exchange was hos tess at a very pleasant supper party last Sunday when she entertained her daughter, Mrs. Edgar Newton and family and Mrs. Cavender, all of Blattsmouth. Meeting Together. The Ladies' Aid society of the Christian church and the missionary society of the Presbyterian church were-meeting last Wednesday at the parlors of the Christian church where they were planning for a better Mur ray and a more agressive work for both t hurches. Had a Pleasant Visit. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Terhune enter tained last Sunday anil hail as their guests for the occasion Mr. and Mrs. Willard Bergett, parents of Mrs. Ter hune, and Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Ter hune, parents of Earl Terhune, all of Humboldt. The Eed Lamp. Murray high school will present a full evening of entertainment on Friday, March 19 at 8 p. m. A two act play, The Red Lamp; a one-act play, All in the Dark, and the orig inal "Kur'l Chump and His Dark town Amachoor Half-hour" will be given. Admission 10 and 20c. ltw Given Farewell Surprise. A group of neighbors and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Schomaker and family and gave them a surprise party, as they are moving to Elmwood. The time was spent in dancing and plyaing cards. A lunch was served at mid night.
