Sale Bara Gains
in Popularity
Gross Sales Averaging $1,000 Since
Opening of Pavilion Latter
Part of November.
Sales at the Plattsmouth pavilion
are averaging $1,000 gross each
Thursday. The peak thus far has
been $1,500 on the community sale.
Two months of occupation have
established the barn in Cass county.
Hogs and cattle furnish the bulk of
sales, although furniture, feed, and
almost any saleable material may be
found at the auction. Four percent
commission is charged on livestock
and ten percent on "little stuff" or
"junk."' Half regular commission is
charged on "bid-ins."
Rex Young and Carl Grosshans are
in partnership in the sale barn. This
i: their third winter in the sale busi
ness together. They have been oper
ating a barn at La Platte in Sarpy
county.
A 30 by 3 0 foot building forms the
central pailion. Seats surround the
auctioneer's stand and central pen.
Live stock is run in from pens on
one side and out through another
door, la numbered pens take care
of the btock. All live stock is sold by
the head or by the pen. A lunch
room is also located in the pavilion.
Sales are held at one o'clock each
Thursday. 1 lie harn has a very de
sirable location as it is on the paved
highway a mile north of Plattsmouth.
Although the barn is new and will
take a while for establishment, a
bright outlook is held after seeing
prices paid on the first sales. Syra
cuse, Xebrtska, has one of the larg
est sale barns in this section. A re
cent report from that pavilion shows
rtty-one sales with a gross turnover
oi. , o.iy during i:3u.
! Towns which have- sale barns be
' come active trading centers on sale
days. Wives do their shopping while
the men attend the sale. .Many nier-
chants in towns having sale barns
