Costa of holding: the recent Fall
election in Cass county were among
the various claim bills to come before
the County Commissioners at their
November meetings. These include
election supplies (tally books, poll
books, etc.) for each precinct; rent
of polling places in most of the pre
cincts, ballots (four separate ones to
each voter this year) election officials
(receiving and counting boards) and
incidental costs of setting up and
taking down booths, extra compensa
tion to one member Of each counting
board for making return, etc. In ad
dition to these items, for the enlight
enment of the voting public, sample
IrJ'ots are published in each of the
Cass county newspapers.
Salaries paid election officials for
the twenty-four precincts in the
county amounts to over $1,000. Add
to thi3 the cost of election supplies,
ballots, room rentals, etc., publication
of ballots in the newspapers and a
few minor incidentals and it is easy
to figure what an election costs in
the state of Nebraska or any other
tl; to.
U is our American way of letting
the people rule and, incidently pay
for the privilege of ruling.
These claim bills came before the
commissioners this month, along with
the regular run of claim bills, and
took plenty of time to check.

Judge renewing Mothers' Pensions of
Mrs. Vera Lancaster, Maggie Her
rinsion and Elizabeth Wright.
Passed resolution directing Harvey
13. Koop, guardian of Lee and Helen
LaTour, minors, to use funds of the
former to support the latter, so that
she will not become a charge upon
Cass county.
Released the Maryland Casualty
company from liability on bond of
G. E. Sayles. deputy County Clerk,
from and after date of his resigna
tion, October 1, 1936.
