Mr. and Mrs. Walter Weyers and sons spent Sunday at the Herman Wolken home. Mrs. Carrie Stowers moved into her property east of the Methodist church last week. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Thomson and son of Palmyra visited at the J. L. Wall home Sunday. Miss Elinor Longman left for Ne- ligh last Thursday where she will teach again this year. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Axe of Lin coln spent Sunday in Eagle visiting with relatives and friends. W. E. Mucnchau and family visited Mrs. Lydia Muenchau and Lillie in Elmwood last Friday evening. Dinner quests of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Hursli last Saturday evening were Mr. and Mrs. John Iteitter and son of Lincoln. Fred Beach says a crab apple tree on the place where he is living had a crop of several bushels of fruit and is now blossoming again. Mrs. Milford Axe and children of Lincoln are spending this week with Mrs. Axe's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Piersol and other relatives here. llev. I). J. Schuyleman left Tues day, Sept. S, for Grand Island, where he will attend the Nebraska Annual Conference of the Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. V. A. Paine drove to Beaver Crossing Sunday and remain ed until Monday, where they visited relatives and also looked after some business. Harvey Wall arrived in town Fri day and on Sunday both Mr. and Mrs. Wall left for Arapahoe where Mr. Wall will again take up his work as music instructor in the schools there. Kermit Stewart left Saturday for the east. He will have charge of the music in a school in New Jersey. He plans to complete his work this year for his master degree at Colum bia University. The Sunday school class of Mrs. H. J. Schuyleman enjoyed'a party at the church last Wednesday night. A gift was presented to Miss Pauline Wall, who was the winner of the contest held over a period of six weeks. Kermit and Hubert Stewart visited from Saturday until Tuesday with their brother, Earl Stewart and fam ily of Ames, Iowa. On their return trip they stopped at Wayne, where Kermit had charge of the music in the public schools for three years. W. L. Hobson stopped in Eagle for a short time Sunday morning while on his way to Lincoln to be with Mrs. Hobson, who is in a critical condi tion at the Bryan Memorial hospital. Friends here were sorry to learn of her illness and hope she will improve soon. Miss Ida Xickols of University Place was the guest of Mrs. Emma Judkins last Sunday. Miss Nickols' father was the pastor of the Eagle Methodist church about thirty-five years ago. She enjoyed meeting the few people, who are still here, whom she had known during their stay in Eagle. Richard and Sumner West went to Lincoln the ftrst or this week where they will make ar rangements prior to the beginning of their studies at the University of Ne braska. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Westlake, Mrs. A. W. Adams and E. P. Betts re turned last Friday from a six weeks vacation trip to California. They re port a nice motor trip and a very pleasant time while in California, which was spent with relatives and friends. They enjoyed a trip over into Old Mexico as one "of their sight seeing trips, and visited Mrs. Lester Robertson during their stay near San Diego. Twister Damages Property at Eagle. A twister again struck Eagle late Tuesday afternoon of this week. The porches at the homes of William Trumble and W. B. Ilursh were torn away. The sliding door was torn from the garage owned by Valley Trumble. A barn was blown against the Schulke house from its location sixty feet away and a box car was moved across the street on the Mis souri Pacific tracks. Trees were twist ed and broke and other buildings were reported damaged by the wind which accompanied the twister as it swept along through Eagle and vicinity. 0 Street Club. The O Street Komemakers club met at the home of Mrs. Harry Froh lich last Friday afternoon. Mrs. Lance Clites was elected the president and will take the place of Mrs. Lawrence McMaster, who re cently moved away. Plans were made for a club party. Mrs. Harry Froh lich and Mrs. John Fischer will be the project leaders for this year. After the business meeting all par ticipated in some games directed by Mrs. Herman Kirchoff and Miss Ella Ossenkop. Guests of the afternoon were Mrs. George Coatraan, Miss Helen Froh lith of North Platte, Mrs. Herman Kirchoff and Miss Ella Ossenkop. Refreshments were served at the close of the afternoon. Methodist Ladies Aid. Mrs. Fred Rudolph was hostess to the Methodist Ladies Aid at the church parlors last Wednesday after noon. Mesdames William Ketelhut, Delia Horsh, Dave Horsh, Ilarley Smith, Sarah Keil, Paine, Mary Lan ning, G. II. Palmer, and Miss Dor othea Keil. Mrs. Boren became a very welcome member. After a short business meeting those pressnt spent the time visiting or quilting. The hostess served delicious re freshments at the close of the after noon. RECREATIONAL PICNIC Monday afternoon a very fine pic nic was enjoyed by the members of the recreational group which has been active here in the past several weeks under the auspices of the WPA. The young people with their In structors and supervisors were taken to the Hutchison grove at Rock Bluffs where the pleasant event was staged in the pleasant settings that this rural spot affords. Many brought their picnic dinners to enjoy. The band under the direction of Peter Gradoville, was present and gave a number of musical selections that were much appreciated and add ed a pleasant touch to the activities of the day. Other members of the group en joyed a ball game and a general out ing in the open to fittingly celebrate the weeks of their activity. Those in charge of the picnic arc very grateful, to the merchants that contributed lemons for the free lem onade, the various auto agencies for the use of cars and trucks and who assisted in anyway in the success of the picnic. Phono news rtem to no. 6. Novotny Family Holds Reunion at Omaha Park Gathering Honors Mr. and Mrs. James Wooster and Daughters of Wind sor, Mo., Here on Visit. The beautiful Riverview Park in Omaha was the scene Sunday, Sept ember 6th of the third annual re union of the Joseph Novotny family, one that settled in early days in this community and have made a large place in the history of Cass county. The occasion brought all of the children except one daughter, Mrs. August Kopp of this city who was unable to attend with her fam ily. The occasion was one honoring the visit of Mr. and Mrs. James Wooster and four daughters of Wind sor, Mo., who have been visiting at the home of the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Novotny, Sr., of this city and relatives in and around this city. Mrs. Wooster was formerly Miss Kathryn Novotny and she and her husband both have a large circle of friends in and around this vicinity. The beautiful spacious grounds of the park and where with the cooling breeze it made a most pleasing set ting for this splendid yearly event. Everyone came with well laden bas kets and the dinner served at the noon hour was the main event of the day and the tables, being very at tractively arranged with the many tastefully prepared viands, made a fitting climax of this reunion. The tables which sat over the shade of the park were soon filled by the family group and the dinner which was served in cafeteria style was most heartily enjoyed by everyone present. The day was spent in visiting and the meeting of the members of the family and who found a great pleas ure in the get-together. They also enjoyed the various amusements which the park had to offer. With the coming of the evening after a day of great enjoyment the happy group made their way home until next year when they all hoped to meet again for another jolly fam ily reunion. The group this year only comprised some twenty-four members and hoped that there would be more represented next year. The affair was planned by the Novotny children and much credit is due them for the care they took to make this reunion a splendid success and one that was thoroughly enjoyed by all those who were present. The members of the party were the children and grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs,- Joseph Novotny ,Sr., resi dents of this city for over a half cen tury and who had a largo part in the development of this portion of Cass county. Those present to partake of the pleasant event were: Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Novatny, Sr., Mr. and Mrs Joseph Kvapil and children, Joseph, Maria and Francis, all of this city, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Novotny, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Anton W. Vetesnik and daughters, Margaret, Lucille and Jean, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Stanek and children. Dean and Betty, all of Omaha, Stanley Hall of Bellevue, Nebr., and the guests of honor Mr. and Mrs. James Wooster and daugh ters, Vivian, Kathryn Ann, Gertrude and Jean Ruth of Windsor, Mo. The Wooster family departed for their home in Windsor, Mo., early this morning. TAKEN TO HOSPITAL M. S. Briggs, field representative of the Journal, was taken to Omaha late Saturday to be placed in the hospital for treatment. Mr. Briggs has suffered from an attack of boils for several days and which has grown so severe that the hospital treatment was necessary. They are suggested as one of the teams to be entered in a tournament. along with the Donats and which would include Louisville, Malvern, Iowa, Murdock and perhaps Omaha teams. This move for a tournament is arousing a great deal of interest among the fans and players and it is hoped to have the games started in the next ten days. Death of an Old Time Resi dent of County Charles Lau, of Louisville, Member of Pioneer Family, Answers Last Summons Monday. Monday evening at his home in Louisville, Charles Lau, 76, member of one of the pioneer families of that section of Cass county, passed away. Mr. Lau retired from the farm where he has spent his youth and young majihood, several years ago and has made his home in Louis ville since that time', enjoying the associations of the many old time friends in that community. He has been in poor health for some time and death came as the re sult of an Illness of several months. The parents of Mr. Lau were very early settlers in the locality of the present town of Murdock and where many of the -family still reside. Mr. Lau is survived by the widow, three daughters, Paulina and Au gusta, living at home, Mrs. William Wiles of Cedar Creek, two sons, Charles and Louis, living at Ashland. The funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at the Im- manuel Lutheran church near Louis ville and conducted by the Rev. T. Hartman. FUNERAL OF FRANK W0NDRA The funeral services of the late Frank Wondra were held on Monday afternoon at the Sattler funeral home at Fourth and Vine streets and largely attended by the old time friends and acquaintances in the community as well as from distant points. The Rev. V. C. Wright, pastor of the First Methodist church, had charge of the religious service and brought words of comfort and hope to the members of the bereaved fam ily circle. During the service Frank A. Cloidt gave two of the old and loved songs, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Fac3 to Face," Miss Estelle Baird l eing the accompanist. Frank Wondra, son of John and Mary Wondra, was born in Bohemia, October 7, 1S67, and died September 5, 1936, at the age of sixty-eight years and eleven months. He was brought to the United States by his parents when three years of age, the family locating at Weston, Nebras ka, where he was reared to manhood. Later he cam to Plattsmouth and was marrid ere to Miss Mary Buckacek in 1903. He worked for the Burling ton railroad for a period of fifteen years and in recent years has been employed by Warren Tulene. Mr. Wondra is survived by the widow, five sons, James of Omaha, Louis, John, Charles, Kenneth and one daughter, Tillie, all of this city. There also survives two grandchil dren and one brother, John, of Ells worth, Kansas. Those from out of the city to at tend the funeral were Tillie, Ann and Charles Ohnoutka, of Ceresco; Charles Dolezal, of Weston and John Hesser of Omaha. The interment was at the Oak Hill cemetery west of the city and the pall bearers were four sons, James, Louis, John and Charles and two nephews, Paul and George Bartek. Cloidt, Administrator of the estate of John Warga, deceased, plaintiffs, filed a petition and com menced an action in the District Court of Cass County, Nebraska, on the 11th day of April, 1936, against you and each of you, the object, purpose and prayer of which is to obtain a decree of court quieting the title to Lot fourteen (14), in the South half (S4) of the North west quarter (NWU) of Section four (4); the West half (W) of the Southwest quarter (SWK ) of Section four (4); Government Lot four (4) of Section four (4); Gov ernment Lot six (6) of Section four (4); Lot sixteen (16) in Section four (4); the Southeast quarter (SE'i) of the Northeast quarter (NEK) of Section five (5); the Northeast quarter (NE'i) of the Southeast quarter (SE',4) of Section five (5); Tax Lot three (3) in the Southeast quarter (SEU) of Section five (5); all that part of Section eight (8), in Township eleven (11), Range fourteen (14), East of the 6th P. M., described as follows: Com mencing at the northeast corner of said Section eight (8), thence run ning south on the east section line 60 rods, thence running west 735.40 feet, thence north no degrees, 14 minutes west 339.5 feet; thence north 9 degrees, 50 minutes west 178.2 feet; thence north 22 degrees, 51 minutes west 305.0 feet; thence north 1 degree, 3 minutes east 197.2 feet to the north line of Section 8, thence east along the north line of Section 8 to the place of beginning; also all that part of Section nine (9), in Township eleven (11), North, Range fourteen (14) East of the 6th P. M., described as follows: Com mencing at the northwest corner of said Section 9, thence south on the west section line of said section 60 rods, thence east to the center chan nel of the Missouri river; tnence northerly along the center channel of said Missouri river to a point where said center channel of sail Missouri river intersects the north line of said Section J extended, thence west along the north line of said Section 9 to the place of be ginning, all of said lands being, in Township eleven (11), North, Range fourteen (14), East or tne bth p. M., in Cass county, Nebraska, and for equitable relief. You and each of you are further notified that you are required to an swer said petition on or before Mon day, the 12th day of October. 1936, or the allegations contained in said petition will be taken as true and a decree rendered in favor of plaiatiff and against you and each of you, ac cording to the prayer of said peti tion.
