Yeiser and the children came down from their home in Omaha to spend Mother's day with the parents. Robert Burton and W, H. Kruger have completed the painting of the Service station of the Trunkenbolz Oil company, which is managed by W. II. Kruger. The Dan Anderson family and the Walter Engelkemeier family were guests Sunday at the home of Ernest Ahrends, where they all enjoyed the day and a very fine visit together, celebrating Mother's day. The churches of Nehawka observ ed Mothers' day in an appropriate manner, having special music for the occasion and devoting a portion of the regular service hour to the pay ing of a tribute to the mothers. Stuart Rough visited with friends and relatives in Omaha Sunday, driv ing up in his car. On Monday he departed for Iowa City, where he is spending this week at the home of his daughter, Mrs. II. J. Dane and family. Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Lundberg were guests of their son, Verner Lund berg and family last Sunday, when the mother was honored and a fine time was enjoyed by all, with a sumptuous dinner a feature of the occasion. Mrs. It. C. roliard and Mrs. Frank Lemon were visiting in Lincoln last Monday, driving over in the car of the former to look after some busi ness matters. While there, they paid a visit to the public library of the capital city. j James Miller and son were com pleting a concrete water tank at the home of Arthur Rough Monday that they had been working on Saturday, but were unable to finish when the rain came, making it impossible to work the concrete properly. J Frank Trotter was hauling logs to Weeping Water from the timber of Mrs. George Sheldon, where William Jourgeson lives, the logs being cut by Mr. Jourgeson. They are to be converted into lumber for George Sheldon by Forest Cunningham who has his saw mill at Weeping Water. I Mrs. Granville Hcebner, who has been so seriously ill for some weeks past at her home here, has been showing good improvement and is so she can leave her bed and is hoping to continue to improve. She has been very ill and it 13 with pleasure that her many friends will learn of her improvement. Gayle Sturm, who has been at the hospital for some time on account of a serious illness, has been making very gcod improvement and as a result was able to be returned home one day last week. lie has not re gained his lost strength as yet, but i3 able to get about a little and is making good progress with each suc ceeding day. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Pollard were in Lincoln last Sunday (Mother's Day), where they enjoyed the day and a very fine dinner at the home of their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Pollard. After a most pleasant day in the capital city, they return ed home in the evening well satis fied with the pleasant time which they had enjoyed. C. E. McCarthey and family, of Union, were in Nehawka last Sun day morning and with Mrs. Albertina Ost went to Omaha, where they all enjoyed the day at the home of Alfred Anderson. Mrs. Anderson is a daughter of Mrs. Ost and thi3 oc casion brought the family together for an observance of Mother's day, in honor of the mother, Mrs. Ost. Hold Baccalaureate Services Speaking to the seventeen mem bers of the graduating class of the Nehawka high school and to a crowded house that filled the audi torium to capacity, Rev. Dr. II. G. McClusky, pastor of the Presbyter ian church at Plattsmouth, delivered the annual baccalaureate sermon. His words of advice to the graduates were very timely and appropriate, and were listened to with marked at tention, both by the graduates and the rest of the large audience. Special music was furnished by the glee club of the schools. Members of the graduating clas3 are: Misses Opal Schumacher, Gar net Waldo, Donna Ross, Maris Smith, Hazel Gwilliams, Kathleen Schafier Loell Buchanan Hoback, Ivan Hansen, Harold Rice, Laverne Stef fens, Barton Sutphan, Boyd Mayfield, Jame3 Puis, Clifford O'Connor and George Paulis. Dined at Nebraska City With all the folks away from home but them, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. They found the place crowded and were asked if they would object to eating with an other couple, being seated in a booth with a couple from Farragut, Iowa, with whom they became ac quainted and enjoyed a most pleas ant dinner hour. The Iowa couple, like themselves, had slipped away from home to enjoy a dinner out. Had a Splendid Time The banquet which the Junior class of the Nehawka high school tendered to the Senior class, was a most enjoyable social function of the many that are taking place in connection with the close of the school year. The dinner was pre pared by mothers of the Junior class members and was a splendid feast. Much interest was taken in the event and the decorations and table appointments were so well ar ranged as to draw much favorable comment. The dinner and program were en joyed by all. Will Hold Alumni Banquet The alumni meeting and banquet of the former students of the Ne hawka school will be held at the auditorium this coming Saturday and promises to be a most pleasant event, when the former students, not alone those of this immediate neigh borhood, but many who have gone to other places to reside, will again get together to recount the pleasures and experiences of their school days together. A fine afterdinner program is be ing arranged in connection with the banquet and a large attendance of former students is expected, as well as the seventeen who are graduating this year and will become members of the alumni. Experienced Selling High Prices Prompt Remittance Pleads for Friend and Draws Charge of Intoxication R. Decker of Transient Camp, Self Appointed Attorney, Talks Himself into Charge. Monday afternoon following" a quarrel at the transient camp north of this city, Joe Roach, one of the residents there was arrested on a charge of assault and battery upon Thomas II. Manuel, also a resident there. The matter was reported to Sher iff Homer Sylvester and Roach vas rounded up in the city and taken to the court house where a complaint was filed on the above named charges. The defendant desired to have sev eral witnesses brought in to testify in the case and accordingly Deputy Sheriff Cass Sylvester brought in sev eral of the man and among them R. Decker. When the trial started Decker In sisted on serving as the volunteer at torney for Roach and thereby drew upon himself a charge of intoxica tion as well as getting his client also in the noose of the law a second time. The case was heard by Judge A. II. Duxbury and who found that the evi dence of the assault and battery was not sufficient and released the pris oner on this charge, but stated that the condition of the defendant and his representative was such that a charge of intoxication would be filed against them and they were accord ingly escorted to the county jail to await hearing. The intoxication charge will be heard this afternoon in the county court before Judge Duxbury. SCORES IN DRAMATICS Frederick Fricke of this city, a member of the clas3 of 1935 of the local high school, has proven very successful in his work in dramatics at Doane college at Crete which he is now attending. Mr.. Fricke has been in a large number of the plays and entertainments afforded by the college and civic organizations. The past week he appeared as "Oliver" in a college presentation of Sheri dan's "School for Scandal,," which scored a great success. He also as sisted at Friend in the presentation of a religious pageant. At Doane Mr. Fricke has a seat in his study that was once used by Robert Taylor, now the star of "Magnificent Obsession." Dr. and Mrs. Frank L. Cummins, Mrs. C. C. Wescott and Mrs. Maude Fricke, the latter mother of the young man, were at Crete to enjoy School for Scandal." SHOWER FOR BRIDE-TO-BE The employes of the Nebraska Ma sonic Home with Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Evers, joined in a very charming shower the past week for Miss Ha Taylor, an employe of the Home and wliose marriage to Mr. Albert Todd, is to take place this month. The members of the party enjoyed the pleasures of a mock wedding and in preparing recipes which were pre sented, to the guest of honor. The members of the party joined in presenting a very handsome gift to the bride-to-be which will carry with it the Remembrance of the old time friends into her new home. Refreshments of ice cream and cake were served at an appropriate hour to the members of the jolly party. HONOR DEPARTING FRIENDS Mrs. Otto Keck entertained on Tuesday evening at her home In honor of Mrs. Chester Burch, who is moving to Sioux City, Iowa, and Mrs. Everett Noble, soon to remove to Omaha. The ladies spent the time most delightfully in playing pinochle and in which Mrs. Fay McClintock proved the most skillful and was awarded the high honors. The two guests of honor were presented with attractive remembrances of the club members that they have been asso ciated with. At a late hour refresh ments were served and the guests de parted wishing Mrs. Burchand Mrs: Noble success and happiness in their new home.
