The Ladies Altar Guild of the Catholic church of Greenwood will sponsor an old time dance on New Year's eve, December 31st, at the basketball hall. Mrs. Charles Dyer left Thursday evening for Ansley, Nebraska, where she will visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harris and other relatives un til after Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. Hogerty and family, of South Bend, Ncbr., have purchas ed the property formerly known as the Gust Sorman place and moved here on last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Leesley and family spent Christmas day at a fam ily gathering at the home of her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Tickers and family at Nekawka. j Ed Landergreen. of Cedar Rapids, I Iowa, fame in a few days ago to spend the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clans Landergren and oth er relatives and friends. Schmidt and sons, of rowel!, Wyoming, came in Fridav to visit over the holidays with I her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Vinson and other relatives. Miss Elva Coleman, who teaches at Elmwood, came heme Saturday to spend her Christmas vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nils Cole man and brother, Lawrence. The Methodist Guild will meet on Tuesday afternoon, December 31st, at the church, with Mrs. Elmer Mathis and Mrs. Walter Woitzel as hostesses. All members urged to attend. Mrs. Frank Lapham and son, Les ter went to Omaha Tuesday to visit over Christmas day with her daugh ter, Mrs. Ed Bauer and family. They returued home Sunday evening. John Ballinger is quite sick at his Lome, following two paralytic strokes he suffered last Saturday. At latest reports his condition was said to be slightly improved. His daughter, caring for ..irs. William Kelly, is him. Mrs. W. I. Willis received word the latter part of last week from Mrs. T. A. Lingbloom of Elsie, Nebraska, that she had recovered sufficiently to 13 able to be taken to her home. She bad been in the hospital for some time. Mr. and Mrs. George Erikson and family ar.d Mr. ar.d Mrs. Albert Erik son ard son of Kirk, Colorado, came in Saturday night to visit over the holiday season with Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Mat s and other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Mr. Mathews returned home Wednesday evening, while Mrs. Mathews and Emory remained for a longer visit. Passing of James LIcNurlin Mr. and Mrs. lien Howard received the sad news last Thursday evening that James McXurlin had passed away that morning at his home in Long Beach, California. The funeral v.-as held Monday with burial there. He is a brother of Gti3 McNurlin, Mrs. Rosetta Axmaker and Mrs. Myra Howard. Ecltl Annual Christmas Party The Greenwood Woman's club was pleasantly entertained last Wednes day afternoon, December 18, at the home of Mrs. Rex Peters for a Christ mas party. Roll call was responded to by members giving a Christmas verse. The paper read by Mrs. Wal ter Woitzel, "Christmas Living and Christmas Giving" was enjoyed by all. Mrs. Gladys Martin read a very interesting paper on "Ways of Ob serving Christmas in Different Coun- L 1 CS. ' There was a discussion among all those present of the question, "13 it right to teach a child there is a I Santa Claus?" Shirley Bright gave a piano number and there was a vocal duet by Evelyn Brockhaga and Vir ginia Burks, who sang the ever popular Christmas number, "Silent Night, Holy Night." A playlet, "Christmas in the Woods." was given by seven little folks from the kindergarten room. Santa Claus then came to the door and was admitted by Lorin Eucknell and gifts were given to both young and old. At the close of the afternoon, the hostess served a delicious lunch. Enjoyable Oyster Supper Last Monday evening, the Odd Fel low lodge No. 9S of Greenwood held their regular session with a number of visitors present from Louisville and Ashland. Following the lodge session, a social hour was enjoyed playing pinochle and then came a .most delicious oyster supper to which all did justice. Entertained Their Mothers On last Friday afternoon, the pu pils of Miss Thelma Leesley enter tained their mothers and gave a very interesting program after which each pupil presented his or her moth er with a lovely gift which they had made. Then Miss Leesley and the pupils enjoyed an exchange of gifts around a beautifully lighted Christ mas tree. Christian Church Notes Sunday school at 10 a. m. Morn ing services at 11 o'clock. J Christian Endeavor at 7 p. m. j The Christmas program was given last Sunday evening by tiie members of the Sum-lav srhnr.l Those in flmrfo wish to thank all who assisted by taking parts in the splendid pro gram. Rural School Programs The school in District No. 7G with Miss Isabelle Roff as teacher, gave a very interesting program last Friday evening at their school house, which v.r.s attended by a large number. A social hour was then enjoyed, during which time delicious refreshments were rerved. The school in District No. 5S, of which Miss Lucille Leesley is the teacher, also gave a fine program last Friday evening before a large crowd of the patrons and friends. After the program, a social hour was enjoyed, climaxed with the serving of a most delicious lunch. Iade Airplane Trip East Miss Florence Beighley, who is a teacher in the Plattsmouth schools, left Saturday morning for Newark, X. J., and other points in the east, where she will visit with friends and relatives until after New Years. She went by airplane from Omaha on one of the big tri-motored planes that span the country in fewer hours than it formerly took days. 11. E. Church Notes Frederick Anderson, Pastor Sunday school at 10 a. m. Morn ing worship at 11. Epworth League at 7 p. m. A special Cristmas sermon was given last Sunday morning by Rev. Anderson, which Avas greatly enjoy ed by all. On Sunday evening a very fine pro gram was given by the different de partments of the Sunday school. It was quite different from the usual program of this kind as some of the songs were illustrated with colored pictures. Following the program, old Santa Claus made his appearance, causing much fun and merriment among the children. With the assistance of Ben Conley, JtS3 Vinson and W. A. White, Santa distributed treats to all present. After the program at the church, Rev. and Mrs. Anderson, accompan ied by about twenty of the young people went to the homes of the older members who were not able to get out and sang Christmas carols, after which Mr. and Mrs. Anderson enter tained the group at their home, serv ing delicious refreshments. Richards-Fischer lluptials Cn Christmas eve, Miss Ruth Rich ards, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Richards, became the bride of Carl Fischer, Jr., of Greenwood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Fischer, Sr., of St. Paul, Minnesota, the wedding tak ing place at the home of the parents of the bride. The home was very attractive with a color motif of silver and white pre dominating and a beautifully lighted Christmas tree in these colors made a beautiful background before whicJI the marriage vows were taken. Rev. Frederick Anderson, pastor of the Greenwood M. E. church, per formed the ceremony at S o'clock be fore about 50 immediate relatives and friends. Miss Irene Hoffman sang "I Love You Truly," accompan ied by Miss La Verna Adair, who also played Lohengrin's Wedding March. Mis3 Mildred Richards, the bride's sister and only attendant, was attired in pink satin and carried pink rosebud3. The bride's dress was of white sat in, made on very simple lines, being of tloor length with a short train. The cowl neck line lent grace to the bodice. She wore tiny rosebuds in her hair and carried a shower boquet of white roses. Arthur Wcideman attended Mr. Fischer as best man. A reception was held immediately following the cere mony. Mis3 Polly Charling was in charge of the guest book. Misses Dor othy Walsh and Ellen Ulstrup assist ed with the serving of the refresh ments, which consisted of cakes, cof fee and ices in individual poinsettia melds. A miniature Christmas tree centered the serving table. Mrs. Fischer was a graduate of the Ashland high school with the class cf 1930 and afterwards took up beauty work, having been operating a beauty shop in Ashland, which she expels to continue operating in the future. She has been active in the church and Sunday school work at the Congregational church, and is a member of the Business and Profes sional Women's club, also the J. B. club and the "300 Pinochle" club. Mr. Fischer was graduated from the St. Faul high school. For a time lie was associated with Mr. Ulstiup in business and then came to Green wood, where he is operating a gar age and filling station. After a short wedding trip to bt. Paul, Minn., they will make their home in Greemvood. Out-of-town guests at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Richards, of Kimball; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Richards, of Homer; Mr. and Mrs. Hcilman, Max and Betty, Mr. and Mrs. Boucher, Mr. and Mrs. Lauder and Glenn Richards, all of Omaha. Entertained at Pinochle Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Paulus en tertained a number of friends at a party at their home Thursday even ing. There were five tables of play ers present and the time was spent playing pinochle. Mrs. Clyde New kirk won the royal prize for the lad ies and Mrs. Merton Gray was award ed the low score prize. Leo I'eters won the royal prize for the men and E. F. Brunkow had the low score. Delicious refreshments were serv ed late in the evening. HERE FE02I OKLAHOMA The home of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Richey was the scene of a very pleas ant family gathering on Christmas day, they having as their guests. Mr. and Mrs. John Beverage of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and children, Roberta, John and Richard. The home was ar ranged in the beautiful settings of the Christmas season to make the event most delightful.
