City girl, is shown as she left the of

win, after questioning by two state
agents sent to investigate Iowa City
vice conditions by Governor Clyde
Herring. Miss Ambrose was involved
with Leona Poggenpohl in the Iowa
fraternity house cf the Phi Beta Delta
ecandal, which caused the suspension
cf 23 members on charges that they
were "keeping a disorderly house."

Leona Pcggenpohl, pretty 21-year-cld
girl, said the reason she disclosed
details cf her visits to the University
of Iowa fraternity house of the Phi
Beta Delta was because she wished
"to clear innocent members cf the
Phi Eeta Delta and rumors about
other fraternity houses." Twenty
three members cf the Jewish organi
zation of Phi Beta Delta were sus
pended on charges cf "keeping a dis
orderly house."

Russell Witt, of Lincoln, came
down Friday evening to visit his par
ents. He is recovering from a recent
operation performed at St. Elizabeth
hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Gentry Vant and son
of Hastings visited his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. John Vant and other rela
tives here over the week end.
Mr. and Mrs. George Bucknell and
sons, Loren and Warren, and Mrs. W.
A. White were business visitors in
Lincoln Saturday morning.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Smith and
daughters, DorOthy and Madaline,
were dinner guests cf Mr. and Mrs.
R. E. Matthews and son on Sunday.
Mrs. Mabel Hamilton returned to
her home Saturday evening from Lin
coln, where she had spent the past
week with her son Gerald, at the
Lincoln General hospital.
Miss Lucille Leesley returned to
her school work at the Wesleyan Uni
versity at Lincoln, after having spent
the past week as spring vacation with
the home folks.
Mrs. Earl Stradley will be hostess
to the American Legion Auxiliary at
her home on Wednesday afternoon of
this week.
Donald Sheffer, of Omaha, came
down Thursday evening for a few
days visit with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. L. V. Sheffer. He returned to
the metropolis on Sunday.
Frank Coleman came home Friday
evening from Humboldt, Nebr., where
he is employed with the telephone
construction gang, returning to hi.-,
work after an over Sunday visit with
the home folks.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wilkens and
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Marolf drove to
Omaha Thursday afternoon, where
they attended the National flower
show at the Ak-Sar-Ben coliseum.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lapham and
family, of Waverly and Frank Lap
ham and son, Lester, were dinner
guests of Mrs. Dora Leesley on Sun
day, and all were helping Ralph Lap
ham celebrate his birthday.

Enjoyed Chicken Dinner

Underwent Serious Operation
Mrs. M. Hamilton accompanied her
son, Gerald, to Lincoln last Monday
afternoon, where he entered the Lin
coln General hospital and on Wednes

Meeting of Woman's Club
The Greenwood Woman's club met
at the home of Mrs. Rex Peters last
Wednesday afternoon, April 3, with
a good attendance. This was a meet
ing devoted to flowers. After the
meeting was opened, by the president,
roll call was responded to by "My
Favorite Flower." Miss Larson, of
the Biology department of the Uni
versity of Wisconsin, was the guest
speaker of the afternoon and gave a
wonderful talk on flowers.
Spent Enjoyable Evening
Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Armstrong en
tertained a number of friends at their
home Tuesday evening, April 2. The
time was spent playing bridge. A de
licious lunch was served as a fitting
climax to the pleasant evening.
