Irene Ingraham o Ashland visit od over Saturday and Sunday -with her sister, Mrs. Henry Wilkcns and husband. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Shepler and son of Springfield drove over Satur day evening where they visited over Sunday with her mother. Mr. and Mrs. Art Grosshans of Stockham visited Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Holt on last Sunday. Mrs. Gross han is a niece of Mr. Holt. Mr. Austin Finlay and son of near Elmwood spent Saturday and Sun day here visiting her mother Mrs. Myra Howard, and other relatives. Herbert Ross left Saturday night for his 'home at Stockham after spending the past three months here employed at the Gribble Barber shop. Wm. Buck returned home Satur day from Fargo, X. D., where his family are spending the winter. He brought back a truck load of pota toes. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Leesley and Mrs. Dora Leesley were business visitors in Plattsmouth on Tuesday. Mr. Leesley was drawn on the jury for this term of court. Mr. and Mrs. N. O. Coleman, Elva and Lawrence, visited Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Carnes in Lincoln Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Carnes is somewhat improved at this time. Harold, Ralph and "Wilbur Phipps of Onawa, la., came in last Thurs day to visit their uncle, Mr. William Franks and family. They left for their heme on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. White, Mr. and Mrs. George Bucknell and sont visited Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Bucknell and sons and other relatives near Elmwood Sunday evening. Mrs. O. F. Peters and son, Norman accompanied Mrs. H. C. Peters ol Riverside, Calif., to Yutan Sunday where they were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. II. II. Peters. Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Holland of Lin coln and Mr. and Mrs. Ira Shaffer of Torrington, Wyo., were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Mat thews on Wedneday evening. Frank Lapham has been feeling quite poorly for some two weeks past and has been kept to his bed a greater portion of the time, but is hoping soon to be out again. P. S. Hail of Columbus, was look ing after some business matters in Greenwood on Wednesday of last week and was as well meeting with his many friends while in town. Mrs. Mabel Hamilton, Mrs. Dudley Clouse, Mrs. W. I'. Willis, Mrs. W. A. Armstrong and Mrs. W. L. Hillis went to Lincoln Saturday shopping. Mrs. Hamilton and Mrs. Armstrong took in a show in the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jardine of Lin cola, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Kupke and family of Murdock, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Renwanz, Jr., and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Landon and son spent Sunday with Mr. Wm. Ren wanz, Sr. Mr. and Mrs. Cedric Fulmer and Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Leesley and family entertained Mr. and Mrs. Orin Peterson and daughter of Lincoln and Dr. and Mrs. L. E. Jones and family of Raymond at dinner on Sunday at the Fulmer home. Arthur Anderson has been in rather poor health for some time past while he has not been so well for some time past he has been able to be about most of the time, but dur ing the early portion of last week was compelled to keep to his bed fcr a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Peters and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. James Dimmitt and family, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Dimmitt went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Dimmitt near Alvo Sunday evening where they helped Glen cele brate his birthday. An oyster supper was enjoyed by all. Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Marvin, Miss Helen and Neil, drove to Fremont Saturday evening where they were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Walling at an Elk and Moose dinner. Mr. Walling had just returned from a hunting trip to Wyoming bringing back a large moose and elk. Charles Warner, making his home northeast of Ilavelock, was in Green wood on last Wednesday, coming in response to a call from a man near Omaha who desired to purchase a white face bull for his herd. Mr. War ner was able to sell one from the herd which has has on hi3 farm. The Homo Missionary Society was pleasantly entertained Thursday af ternoon at the church by Mrs. Elmer Mathis. There were eighteen mem bers present. Mrs. Lambert conduct ed the business meeting. The devo tionals and lesson study on the "Thanks Offering" were led by Mrs. W. C. Blattler. Then a social hour was enjoyed during which time the hostess served a lovely lunch. Surprised on Birthday. Mrs. Clyde Newkirk was pleasant ly surprised Tuesday evening when her" husband and Mr. and Mrs. Travis Cameron had invited some friends to the Newkirk home, the occasion be ing in honor of her birthday. There were twelve guests present and the time was spent playing pinochle. Mrs. E. A. Landon won the royal prize for the ladies and Mr. L. C. Marvin won the royal prize for the men. At the close of the evening a lovely oyster supper with all the trimmings was served. Entertains Friends. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Boiler en tertained a number of friends Thurs day evening at their home. There were five tables of players present and the time was spent playing pin ochle. J.Irs. W. L. Hillis won the royal prize and Mrs. Leonard Jar dine won the second prize for the ladies and Mr. W. L. Willis won the royal prize and Mr. Otto Renwanz won the second prize for the men. Lovely refreshments were served at the close of the games. Attend District Convention. Those atending the district con tention of the Rebekah Lodge at Dorchester Wednesday afternoon and evening were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kyles, J.Irs. J. C. Strahan and Mrs. Harry Anderson both of Waverly; Mr. and Mrs. George Bucknell, Mrs. Leo Peters, Mrs. Ed Brunkow, Mrs. Charles Dyer, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Gribble, Mrs. Dora Leeslsy, Mrs. Marcia Ilise, Mrs. Merton Gray, Mrs. Fred Etheredge, J.Irs. Wilbur Faulus, Mrs. Everett Cope, Mrs. Xannie Cole man and Mrs. Minnie Mason. 0. E. S. Kensington. The O. E. S. kensingion was en tertained at a lovely twelve o'clock luncheon Wednesday noon by Mrs. A. E. Leesley and Mrs. C. D. Fulmer at the Fulmer home. There was a good crowd of their own members present and the school teachers were special guests. After the luncheon the regular business meeting was conducted by the president. The rest of the afternoon was spent quilting for the hostess. The next meeting will be announced later. Father and Eon Banquet. The Father and Son banquet was held at the basement of the M.- E. church last Friday night, Xov. 16. lovely two-course dinner was ser ved to about one hundred and thirty-five at long tables, prettily decor ated with chrysanthemums. The hgh school orchestra furnished sev- ?ral selections under the direction if Miss Freda Woitzel. Rev. Goings led the gathering in prayer. ReT. Gideon gave the address of welcome. Norman Peters acted as toastmaster. Mr. E. A. Landon and Jimmie Arm strong gave toasts. Mr. Knolle fav ored witli two toasts. Rev. Harold Bryant of Wahoo gave the address. Odd Fellovrs Visit Neighbors. The subordinate lodge of the I. O. O. F. of Greenwood on last Tues day evening went to Ashland where they had been invited to meet with the lodge at that place and where there was a large attendance and '.vhere they had prepared an enjoy able evening. A team was selected and among those chosen to confer the degree wa3 C. W. Newkirk who was selected as the past grand. Fol lowing the conferring of the degree there was a social hour and a fine banquet provided by the Daughters of Rebekah of Ashland. Visited With Friends. Mrs. II. C. Peters of Riverside, California, arrived in Greenwood on last Monday and was visiting for a time with relatives, guest at the home of Norman Peters and mother, Mrs. O. F. Peters and also at the homes of Rex Peters and wile and the family of Leo Peters. Sunday Norman Peters and mother took Mrs. II. C. Petcr3 to Wann where they visited for the day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. II. II. Peters, an other brother. Decorating Masonic Eall. The Masonic order is having their hall re-decorated and placed in ex cellent condition. A decorator hap pened to be along just when they wanted the work done and this made it nice for both parties. II. E. Guild Met. The Ladies' Guild of the Meth odist church of Greenwood met on last Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Frank Welton who was assisted in the entertainment by her daugh ter. vA very worthwhile after noon was spent and lollowing which a delightful luncheon was served by the genial hostesses. J. Hallstrom. Celebrates Birthday. Miss Ella Johnson of Greenwood like other people had a birthday an niversary and her many friends on last Tuesday, her birthday, went in and gave this excellent lady a most pleasant afternoon. After leaving their tokens of love, honor and es teem, they departed in the evening, extending the wish for many more such happy occasions. John 1:1. IvIeiTord Very Poorly. John Mefford who is well into the eighties and nearly out of them, and who has been in poor health for some time past, suffered a very serious spell of illness some two weeks ago and has been kept to his bed at the heme of his daughtr, Mr. and Mrs. Al Bauers. He has been having the best of medical attention and nursing but stiil he does not improve as desired. His many friends are hoping he may soon be out again and in his former good health. HAVE A CLOSE CALL From Friday's Daily This morning P.. A. Roscncrans, proprietor of LSruce's Men's shop and Lyle Horton of the Ilorton funeral home, had a close call from being overcome from the effects of carbon monoxide gas. The two gentlemen were at the store of Mr. Rosencrans when the fumes, originating from a blocked chimney caused the gas to fill the store and before they were aware of it they were dangerously close to being overcome. Soot and other obstructions in the chimney had shut off the feeding of the fumes from the furnace and which had spread out into the basement and thence to the floor cf the building occupied by the store. The two vic time of the fumes were taken to their homes to rest and recuperate from the effects and it is thought that they will suffer no ill effects, but it was a very close call for both. HEIiE FE.0H NEKAWEA Ernest Ahrens, of Nehawka, was in Plattsmouth Friday to spend a few hours attending to some matters of business and while here was a caller at the Journal.
