MANLEY NEWS
Miss Rena Christensen was visiting
for a few days with her friend, Miss
Teresa Rauth.
Two Model T Ford Motors, In good
condition, for sale. Also two trailers,
one 2-wheel and one 4-wheel. See
August Kretklow, Manley.
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Rauth were in
Omaha Tuesday of last week, where
they vidited with friends and looked
after come business rpatters.
Miss Ruth Maier. of Louisville,
granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E.
Mockenhaupt, was visiting in Manley
during the greater part of last week.
Pete Harms, who resides in Los
Angeles, has a position manufacturing
drill points for use in the oil fields
out there, which is a very fair job
end pays good wages.
Rudolph Berginann and Herman
Dall were in Omaha last Monday, at
which place they had some business
to look after and while there accl
dently ran onto their friend, A. B.
Hill. Mr. Hill sent his regards to
friends in Manley.
Harold Krecklow and his father
weie in Omaha with a load of stock
last Wednesday, which they took up
for farmers residing In thic vicinity.
On their return home, they stopped
in Plattsmouth, where they sold a
trailer. Mr. Krecklow has been mak
ing some good trailers of late and Is
finding a good demand for them, as
with the automobile, they serve many
useful purposes.
Had a Good Sale
The sale of Art Taylor, south of
Manley, was attended by a number of
citizens of this place and notwith
standing the fact that the weather
was damp and rain was falling part
of the time, there was a good sized
crowd present and the sale was a good
one. The road3 got pretty bad, how
ever, as the rain continued to fall,
and some had difficulty getting back
onto the gravel highway.
Attended Love Fest Tuesday
Theo Harms and wife picked up J.
C. Rauth and wife last Tuesday eve
ning and drove to Avoca to attend the
ratification jubilee Incident to the
democratic victory at the polls. Not
withstanding the fact that it had
rained a good deal during the day,
there was a large crowd present and
needless to say a very fine time was
had by all.
Met with Accident
While J. C. Rauth was working on
his car, his hand was caught on a
projecting piece of steel, causing a
severe gash in the palm which requir
ed a number of stitches to close and
lias proven very painful. The injured
member is getting better now and it
is hoped it will soon be all right
again.
Back to His Work Here
Aaron Irian, one of the teachers in
the Manley schools, who has been on
a vacation which took him home to
campaign for his candidacy for clerk
of the district court of his home coun
ty, returned last week and has re
sumed his teaching duties here. He
was unsuccessful in his quest for of
fice, losing by only eight votes.
Has an Attack of Appendicitis
Miss Ruth Hogue, one of the teach
ers in the Manley schools, was strick
en with an attack of acute appendi
citis, which caused her much suffer
ing during the night, but the follow
ing morning she was feeling much
better and was able to resume her
teaching. She is feeling greatly Im
proved now.
occupying the rental property of W.
J. Rau. Their coming adds three
pupils to the Manley schools.
UEGED TO SAVE CANE SEED
New Family in Manley
Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Burroughs and
family of five children moved to Man
ley last Saturday and will make their
home here for the present. They are
Nebraska farmers fortunate
enough to produce a crop of cane
seed and adapted varieties of grain
sorghums or Sudan grass, are urged
to save it, P. H. Stewart, extension
agronomist at the agricultural col
lege, said surveys thruout Nebraska
and other midwestern states show a
shortage of annual forage crops of
all kinds.
"Even tho fields may not have pro
duced a uniformly good crop, the
scarcity of this seed makes it odvi-
able to harvest such heads as did
mature," Stewart said. "Neighbors,
undoubtedly, will buy any surplus
seed. Planting in 19 34 exhausted
the supply of seed available so there
is little, if any, carryover on which
to fall back."
