Summers has been en joying a visit from a brother and sister, whom she had not seen for a long time. Frank Boggs, of Union, was looking after some business matters in Ne hawka for a shcrt time on last Mon day afternoon. J. J. Pollard was a business visitor in Omaha last Monday, driving over to the big town in his car for some machinery repairs. Mesdanies Victor Wehrbein and Chloe Stoll were visiting in Lincoln last Wednesday, where they were the guests cf relatives and friends as well as looking after some shopping. A. R. Dowler, of Nebraska City, was a visitor in Nehawka last Mon day afternoon and was looking after some business matters for the A. W. Propst Auto company of Nebraska City. Leo Switzer and Henry Thiele were at Syracuse on last Wednesday, where they were attending the community sale which was held there and were interested in the purchase of some stcck. Walclen Switzer, who has been at a hospital in Omaha undergoing an operation for appendicitis, was able to return home again last week and is making fair progress towards re turning health. Little Jack Yeiser, a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Sturm, who under went a mastoid operation recently is j reported as getting along very nice ly at this time and gives promise cf soon being well again. L. C. Todd, who has been visiting here for some time past, returned to his home in Lcs Angeles, and was ac companied by Mrs. Ccrtiude Wolph, who will visit there for a short time, she havi y relatives there. Raymond C. Pollard, who has been taking his vacation for the past two weeks and spending the time at home, returned to his desk at the offices of the Farmers Oil company, well re- freshed and ready tor another year of i vigorous work. Mrs. Mclvin Stone, who has not been in the best of health fcr the past few weeks, was taken to the St. Mary's hospital at Nebraska City on last Saturday, where she is under treatment and observation to ascer tain the exact cause of her illness. Mr. and Mrs. Enos Plunkett were ever to Omaha last week, taking Mrs. John Opp with them, where she went to see the doctor for a clinic, and will have to return for a more ex tended examination. Mrs. Opp has been in very delicate health for some time. Gilbert Edmunds and family are enjoying a two weeks' vacation in the north woods of Minnesota, driv ing there and expecting to get home before the opening cf the schools. While they are gone Fred Hanson is looking alter some repairs at the garage. Vomer Lundberg, who has been a patient at the Veterans' hospital in Lincoln for the past several weck3 re ceiving treatment for ill health, in cluding the removal cf his teeth, was able to return home the latter part of last week and is feeling greatly improved in health. Fred Will, who makes his home in Oklahoma, accompanied by the good wife, were visiting for a short time at the home of F. R. Cunningham last week. Mr. and Mrs. Will form erly resided between Nehawka and Murray, but have been away for the past 25 years, making their home in the south. Marion Pitman, a carrier of the rural mails at Avoca, accompanied by his wife, were guests at the homes of Mrs. Laura Fieischman and Mrs. Rob ert H. Chapman, both ladies being sisters cf Mr. Pitman, and were also visiting with the parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Pitman, who are making their home with Mrs. Fieischman. Willard Lewis, of Coleridge, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Lewis, formerly of the neighborhood between Nehawka and Murray, but now making their home in the northern portion of the state, was visiting with his sisters, Mesdames A. G. Cisney, C. H. Peck and Mont Shrader during the past two weeks. He returned to hi3 home on last Monday. Ruth Jefferson, who was formerly a teacher of music in the Nehawka schools, but who after having had a number cf flattering offers, accepted a position in the schools of Geneva, gave a very enjoyable recital at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Summers, which was enjoyed by a large num ber of specially invited guests. Miss Jefferson's program consisted mainly of piano numbers. John Tanner, a brother of Mrs. W. O. Troop, who is a rancher cut near Yuma, Cclorado, made a shipment of cattle to the South Omaha market ei and also visited with his sister and family for a short time before return lng to his home in the west. Speak ing of crop conditions where he lives, Mr. Tanner said this is the first time in 25 years that they have not had a good crop of corn. Mrs. Emma Chriswisser, who was so severely injured in an auto wreck some time since and has been at the hospital for some weeks, was able to return heme last week and Is getting along nicely, but will have to return to the institution for some further treatment. She is doing very nicely and hopes are entertained that she will be able to save the arm which was so badly injured. Thomas E. Fulton and wife accom panied Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Stoll, who have been here since the closing of the schools at Wayside, where Mrs. Stoll is a teacher, on their trip home, and where all are enjoying a visit at the homes of Mr. Kemlon and Stolls both the ladies beinc daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Fulton. Mrs. Stoll will remain there to teach again this year, whilrt fiilheit will return here to work and also bring Mr. and Mrs Fulton home when they have con eluded their visit. Mrs. Hansen Seriously 111 Mrs. George Hansen, who was able recently to come to Murray to the heme of her sister, had to return to the hospital at Omaha and there un derwent a major operation. She has since been in a very critical condition. Everything possible is being done for the patient in the hopes that she may rally and regain her health. Visiting Here from South Mrs. R. C. Pollard has been enjoy ing a visit from some of her folks sisters and nieces and nephews re cently, they being Roger Whitmore and wife and Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Gray, Mrs. Gray being a sister of Mrs. Pol lard and Mr. and Mrs. Whitmore be ing respectively nephew and niece. They were spending the week end at the Pollard home, having driven from their heme to see their sister and aunt, and returning home Monday. Their home is at Columbia. Mo. Will Meet at Homestead The Sturm family reunion, which is an organized institution and has been meeting at a good many differ ent places in recent years, has been set for the old Sturm homestead, where Henry Sturm and wife reside, the date being set for this coming Sunday, September 2nd. E. Wilson and daughters, Dorothy and Iola, of Sac City, Iowa, spent Saturday night here at the home of Mrs. Wilson's cousin, Elmer Webb, and family, while en route to Arapahoe, Nebraska, for a few days visit with relatives. The Wilson family reside on a farm near Sac City and state that drouth con ditions there are not nearly as bad as here. They had roasting ears of fair quality coming into maturity last week and the canning factory there was opening its seasonal sweet corn pack. Their visit here was the first time the two cousins had met in more than twenty-live years. Scon boats will be plying up and down the Missouri, hauling vast cargoes of freight. Roy Haslam, the auto mechanic was called to Lincoln last Tuesday to look after some business matters for a short time. John Cole of the Cole Motor com pany sold and delivered a pickup truck to Jacob Hild of west of My nard during the past week. Mrs. Joan Carter and a number of her friends enjoyed a two table card game at her home when they played bridge and all enjoyed a good time. Mrs. John Gorder of Plattsmouth was a visitor for the past week in Weeping Water, being guest while here at the home of Mr. and Mrs Fred II. Gorder. Henry Lempke, sr., has been mak insr some necessary repairs on the roof of the building which is to be occupied by Guy Hopkins as' an amusement parlor. Misses Myrtle Peck and Lina Ral ston were visiting in Lincoln last Wednesday, making the trip via the bus and as well were doing some shopping while there. Ed Lr.uritzen and wife are enjoy ing a very pleasant time on a visit to the Century of Progress, while the business at the elevator is being looked after by E. M. Marshall. W. J. Partrege has been having some trouble with one of his eyes which he has been having a special ist look after, making Will make many trips to Lincoln for treat ment. Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Tefft of Chi cago were visiting for a short time with relatives and friends in Weep ing Water, they being guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Tefft while here. John Durman ana wire of near Syracuse, were visiting with friends in Weeping Water on Tuesday after noon of thi3 week. John says the crops are even worse there than they are in this vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. Stirling Amick and Mr. Ben Olive were enjoying attend ing the American Legion convention which was being held at Grand Is land this week. They were also ac companied by Mrs. Oscar Dowler of Manley. Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Schwers and Ray Norris and wife were over to Spangler's grove on last Sunday where they wera .enjoying the Sple nic of the Order of KaMerrt Star; A large crowd was present and a good time was had. N. L. Grubbs has a brother in Omaha who Is in very poor health and whom he Intends to visit each week. Neut went over on Friday to pay the brother a visit, driving in his cr. The brother has r. severe can cer which i3 thought to be incurable. Ross Schields and wife were over to Lincoln last Sunday where they visited the parks, taking their din ner along and partook of it after having visited the interesting places. They returned to their home at Weeping Water well pleased with the day's outing. Henry Bonde and wife and their daughter, Miss Edith, of Calloway were visiting with friends and rela tives in Weeping Water for over the week end, and while here were guests of Chris Rasmussen and the Spang lers and Mogensens, they being rela tives of both families. W. D. Baker who has conducted a produce station for the past few years and who has made many friends dur ing the time he has been in business, by reason of losing the room where he has been doing business will dis continue the business if he i3 unable to secure another building. During the latter portion of this week Miss Virginia Wiles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Wiles will de part for LaHunta, Colorado,, where she teache3 history in the public schools of that place. This is the fourth year that Miss Virginia has taught in the schools of LaHunta. Jack Kerwin and wife, formerly of Geneva, but who have for a num ber of years been making their home in Lincoln, were in Weeping Water on Tuesday afternoon of this week and after having visited here for a time drove over to Louisville where they were also desirous of visiting with friends. Joe Bender and John Bender mounted their bicycles on last Sat urday night and peddled out as far as Exeter where they found the pave ment ended and from there they took the train to Sutton, visited with their parents, returning on the train to Exeter late Sunday night and rode their bicycles back to Weeping Water. Fred Carsten, candidate on the democratic ticket for state senator representing Otoe, Cass and Sarpy counties, accompanied by Frank E. Anton Auserwald of Manley where he is engaged in the blacksmith busi ness, was a business visitor in Weep ing Water last Tuesday afternoon looking after some business matters. Wm. Dunn of Omaha was a visi tor in Weeping Water on last Tues day, driving down to look after some business matters and as well to visit with his friends. Visiting Here from East. During the time when Carl Day and family have been going to Flor ida for the winter, they met there Mr. and Mrs. Kenwood Gillespie of Chambersberg, Pa., and with the time they became very good friends. Last week Mr. and Mrs. Gillespie paid a visit to their friends here and have visited for a number of days. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Day entertained last Tuesday vni'.!g in honor of the guests from the east and where an excellent time was had by all. Bicycle Marathon Assured. The board of the Cass county fair have agreed to have watchmen with red flags on the course of the bicycle marathon on every hill and corner to flag motorists to prevent accidents. The entrance fee for riders is one dollar and first prize will be an Ex celsior bicycle, with $5 in cash for the second prize, with many prizes in mechandise for the belated riders. If you are a bicycle rider, better get your name in the pot. Eastern Star Meets. The Order of Eastern Star met on Tuesday afternoon of this week at the home of Mrs. Ray Norris where they enjoyed a very fine time and good eat3. Will Operate Beer Parlor. : Guy Hopkins who was accorded a license for the operation of a selling station for beer, has with Wm. Gus- sett been getting the room which has been occupied by W. D. Baker, in shape for occupancy, and expect to begin operation on September 1st. Dust Screen Causes Accident. As is his practice, a few days ago W. J. Pareridge with his auto was taking his son, Mark, to work at Louisville and a road grader was working on the . highway, making a cloud of dust which obscured the roadway. Mr. Partridge was on the grader before he was aware and not being able to see on account of the dust, hit the grader, causing some damage to his auto. However, no one was injured in the accident. The Cass County Fair. The fair board which has in hand the preparations for the annual fair of the Cass County Fair association, are pleased to report that things are going forward for the fair, which is to be had on Sept. 11, 12, 13 and 14. Everything points to a fair with an abundance of exhibits and a rec ord breaking attendance. Let every one get behind this fair and make t the very best ever held in Cass county.
