"There ousht to bs a law against that!" if you'll lock it up, you'll find that there is. :o: A3 for us, we never were nervous la the least about Lindbergh's re turn. We figured he'd have to be tack in time to allow about a week cr ten days for the Christmas shop ping. :o: An ocean diver says his work is pleasant because it keeps him away from traffic noises. On the other hand it keeps him out of the clean fresh air a good deal of the time. There's always something. :o: Justice always has rough sledding in states with a high literacy per centage. That is one reason why it U eo difficult to find twelve men vho never heard of the Rcnald Fin rey affair to serve as jurors in the trial. :o: A Seattle baby drank a bottle of red ink, end the doctors have net discovered any ill effects from the youngster's experiment. Can it be that we have all been wrong regard ing being in the red as a dangerous symptom? Bible School Sorday, December 24 I "A Vision of World Peace" Isa. 11:1-9. The writer of this book, Isaiah, as he saw this vision, must h"ve visualized the conditions as they were in the beginning, before tko fall of man, when all animals were vegetarians. (Gen. 1:30). After man's fall a great change tock place; with sin and death en tering the world; creatures becoming hostile to man, and murder and slaughter seen on every hand. The prophet sees In the reign of the Messiah upon the earth that it should be in the end as it was in the beginning. In the vision we see each crlrnal coupled with its prey wolf and lamb leopard and kid calf and lion. Thi3 great change will take place as Jesus Christ is recognized as the King cf King3 and Lord of Lords, ar.d "the earth be full cf the know ledge cf Jehcvah as the waters cover the sea." Eut what a slow process frcrn the time that a "shoot out of the ctock of Jesse, and a branch of it3 roct3 shall bear fruit." Two thousand years have passed into history since that date and men and beast are just as savage as they have been fcr six thousand years. But Jehovah ha3 promised, and it will and must come to pass. The beginning is mae; fcrty-two generations from the birth of Christ bring us back to Here is the small beginning: Jo- ror!:, Mary. Bethlehem, Nazareth, the cb::' ure little village. "Can there any fT-"d thing come out of Nazareth?" Nat-aaei. The angel of the Lord said: "Unto yen is born this day . . t nvior, which is Christ, the Lord." (Lv.fce 2:11). Szr,-. wo tliis son cf David, just or prophesied in our lesson, in the r.yr.agogue in Nazareth and proclaim that the prcphery of Isa. 11:2 is ful filled. (See Luke 4:18-19). As Jesus ii described in cur lesson a3 a ruler and his attributes set forth, we would give the following short explanation (a) Wisdcm, the special gift of the ruler, S3 called to judge difficult cases; (u) Understanding or keen, quick discernment; (c) Counsel, the pjwer to fcrm wise plans; (d) Might, the faculty to carry plans into exe cution; (c) Knowledge, practical ac cuair.tance with the will of God; (f) Fear, that disposition which keeps us ever anxious to he doing God's will. There attributes Jesus exercised in a practical way, by preaching and teaching and healing. The work of Jesus is a work of supreme love, but is based upon supreme justice. And peace will come upon earth only along-the path of the devine justice. As men come to fear the Lord, they will cease to fear one another. In this Ideal world of Jesus' rule, righteousness will be the ruling fae-(it tor. He whose eyes are as a flame of We note a headline, "The Rich Get Fewer." They haven't a thing on us only we get poorer instead of few er. :o: Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken toth, and a foot out of Join. Prov erbs 25:19. :o: With all this talk of a merger of Northwestern university and the Uni versity of Chicago, we wonder if they will call it the Chicago and North western. :o: On account of hard times in Hol land, Queen Wilhelmina will give no parties, banquets or state balls this winter. Thus making the hard times harder in Holland. :o: Several Chicago hotels are trying cut the feasibility of 15-cent cock tails and highballs, and strangely enough are refraining at the moment from calling it another noble experi ment. :o: Noel Coward observes that modern dramatic critics are "like old ladies peering under the bed for burglars." Rather a natural impulse, seeing that there's always a bed on, or just off the stage in Mr. Coward's plays. Lesson Study! By L. Neitzel, Murdock. Neb. fire (Rev. 1:14) "seeth the heart" and he "knows the thoughts of men," (Math. 9:4) and therefore need not "judge according to the appearance." (John 7:24). He cannot be deceived. The causes of war are always sur face causes. If men of different na tions cculd read one another's hearts, they would find there the sime ideals and aims, the same love of God, the same seeking for the devine justice. One of the most efficient means cf promoting peace on earth is the pro motion of a mutual knowledge of dif ferent people, by travels and visiting other nations, by fellowship with emigrants, etc. Especially will Jesus take care of the poor, the downtrod den money will not buy the judge; lawyers' tricks will not go in bis court: every man will receive his just dues. He is so powerful that with the breath of his lip3 he can kill the wicked no sword needed We see great need fcr world peace The great world war demonstrated that something was wrong. The Christian church did not prevent that war. Why did it not? The war started on the greatest Christian con tinent. The war could not have been more horrible fcau there been no church at all. Here, then, we have a demonstration in the sight of the whole world of the impotency of the church of Jesus Christ. Only as men are transformed into the image of God and are filled with the fullness of God will wars cease. May we bear in mind that the ruling influence in time fcr eternity Is God's love. A: men are born again and become new creatures in Christ Jesus, their fierce nature undergoes a change; "the lion will eat straw like an ox." That sig nifies a complete "turn about," and such people will "not hurt or de stroy." It has been said that "if the children were taught the ideals of peace for two generations, peace would prevail in the world." This is because the youth cf today will be come the men and women and rulers of tomorrow. The world court consists of all the nations cf the world except nine. Its Judges decide all questions submitted to It by the nations. The Kellogg- Briand pact renounces war as a means of settling international disputes. Because the followers of Chri3t must share Jesus' desire for a united wcrld, the responsibility for creating a warless world Is placed In especial measure upon the members of his church. If the plan should fail, it will be because the church refuses to accept the standard set for her by her Lcrd. World peace will advance as Chris tianity advances, as rapidly, and no ncre rapidly. "If you caa, o far as depends en you, live at peace with all the werid." (Rem. 12:18). There Is no telling what we may expect next from the song writers. Even before the repeal of prohibition they are versifying about pink ele phants and paTer moons and inquir ing if wo ever saw a dream walking. :o: Pcrhap3 Hr. Insull, although not sufficiently fired by his cause to start a hunger strike, has taken a leef from Candhi's book and gone to bud to stay until Greece rucalls her ex pulsion order or carries hira out of the country on a stretcher. :o: Government agents warn us against getting the new repeal "blends" con fused with prohibition "cut" whis kies. Judging by the remarks of lo cal students, there isn't much dano of confusion, but there ii:tl-'. be 11 the blends were a little better. :o: Judge James E. Chcnot of Detroit is quoted by the News: "Few young men realize the importance of keep ing their desks orderly. Personal ef ficiency demands well-ordered desks." For president in 1936, on the col umnists' party ticket, Judge James E. Chenot of Detroit!
