Nevertheless, there is a growing realization in the country that neith er the Republican nor the Demo cratic parties is what it was. Cer tainly Mr. Hoover has little in com mon with the interests that sustain ed Mr. Coolidge. As the New Repub lic pointed out in the excellent an alysis of Mr. Hoover reprinted in last Sunday's Post-Dispatch, his interest is not in big business but rather in the myriad of little business men with whom he has come into con tact through the Department of Com merce and who have enjoyed his aid and organizing genius to simplify and solve their problems. That is an about-face for the Republican party, whose presidents since Mr. Wilson left the White House have handed th e reins of government of law over to as many emissaries to Wall Street and turned the giving of the great corporations as could be packed into the various Federal boards and commision. It is not, in truth, a repentant party that dots this, but one so far demoralized and disheartened by the scandals of Hardingim that Mr. Hoover had only to step in and assume control. What happened to the Democrats in turn was pointed out by the Post- Dispatch last week. For 30 years the party was disrupted by one of the greatest visionaries and political im nraeticables in American history. It follower him from one will-o-the wisD to another, only to see him fall at last in impassioned defense of the beautiful myth that man is not an evolution from the anthrop oids but a fllen angel. At Houston the party turned in its rainbow net and revived the political tenets of Jefterson. It is once more a useful political party instead cf a wonder ing class in metaphysics. From years spent in the wilderness with the al manac and the impedimenta of prim tive star-gazing, it has turned now to teeming masses of life and occu pies itself with the practical neces sities of our troubled earth. Is it any wonder that Europe thinks a change has come over the spirit of our politics? No, indeed j Neither party could go in the way it was going. The Republicans could not send to the White House an other Coolidge. They could not af fect to believe what the country could not believe with them, that it was a sound public policy to have the Government corrupt and run merely for the benefit of a few peo- ! Die. The Democrats, also, had tc strike for firmer ground than Bryan ism. They could not, either, go on as a one- gallus outfit which nobody seriously believed could govern the country. It is what Mr. Wilson termed the new freedom. He thought we were the people through fame and fortune for him have long erased the scars and sorrows of an impoverished childhood. Governor Smith will enter the White House next March, not to prove to himself, but already proved. :o:- We are now told It is more cor rect to say, as the Dee flies, instead of straight as the birds fly. The bees make non-stop flights and don't turn from their course. The birds are more leisurely and take observations. :o: Once upon a time the election of some one to onice was not -a great personal victory" for some one else who had had nothing to do with the matter. Ir ever restrains us and be what our Give your stomach a vacation, too! It needs the rest, these hot days and Shredded Wheat gives it. The thoroughly baked shreds of whole wheat are easily digested and act as regulators for the whole system. That's because Shredded Wheat is na ture's own food just pure whole wheat with all the healthful qualities of the original grain left in. Vitamins and bran are im portant these days. Shredded Wheat con tains them and all other food elements in balanced form. Serve it with whole milk and fruit. Made by The Shredded Wheat Company at Niagara Falls r Visitors Welcome good sense tells us we should be, and perhaps that is just what we are do ing. :o: WILL BE A LANDSLIDE IfpSSlI Al Smith is one of the severa great men chosen as Democratic standard bearer who possesses a per sonality as great as its party. Al Smith will be the next Presi dent and he will go in on a land slide. We do not often indulge in foreceasts. but in doing so we generally hit the mark. Even enemies concede this much. So great is the personality of Al Smith that he is alienating by the ' thousands rock-ribbed Republicans i from the ranks of their own organ , ization. j And these Republican converts to i the cause or Democracy are among the most enthusiastic supporters of Al Smith. They are doing the un heard of talking Al Smith right un ! der the noses of their bosses, i East or west, north or south, in I every community, there are Republi j cans who next November will vote for a Democratic president for the . first time in many years. That they ! will vote for the man, rather than i on some issue,, is evident from the i fact that they were for Al Smith be fore the ptetforms were framed. He t has fired their imagination, appealed to them as to no other man has Why has Governor Smith broken down party barriers and cut party ties as so much ribbon? Because he is courageous even to the point of having the courage of his convic tions. Because he has placed his NOTICE TO CREDITORS NOTICE OF SUIT TO QUIET TITLE the District Court or the County of Cass, Nebraska. Thomas J. Will. Plaintiff "I vs. Asgil S. Will et al.
