Yet man's initiative in affairs of the heart is the last citadel of romance. Will it be bowled over one of these 'beaming davs? If it is it will serve the women right. The women have surely been strid ing some these latter years. Is this J so-c alled progress justified by its re sults? Are they happier, more con ! tented, more delightful than the j ladies of the long ago? Take the I ballot, for example. "Give us the vote," said the suffragette, "and poli itics will be purified, the problems of 'state will be solved and everything will be lovely." Has it all come to I pass as exultantly predicted? j The women are to blame for all this. They have stood silently by ;and watched their privilege demolish- ed and accepted new burdens thrust upon them without a protest. The overwhelming majority of them were more than satisfied with things as thev were, but thev would not so much as shed a hairpin for the grand ,old status quo. Will they repeat this cowardice in 'stance? jf a few the present in of the unwooed and unwooable sisters begin to a? ;i- tate for the right to propose will the 'women allow themselves to be plun dered of their most diverting bit of strategy, of the finest of their fine !arts? j It is for the women to say wheth 'er they shall be reduced to dreadful imitations of men. :o: CAPITAL STOCK TAX In addition to their income tax, cornorations are reauired to pay the Federal Government a capital stock tax. REFINED CAVEMEN Answers to a questionnaire circu lated among 1.000 college girls of the middle west, are said to show that 65 per cent cf them think that the ideal husband should be cave- i 'mnnnisli ln?t in 5 refinerl vl-u v These responses would be more il- luminatmg if they were more eom- questionnaires to elicit everything but the one thing most persons would like to know. It is not at all clear what kind of caveman the "refined" variety is. Of course, some of the things not to be expected of him are apparent. He is not supposed, in the pet phrase of professed wife tamers, to "catch 'em young, treat 'em rough and tell 'em nothing." It is to be! presumed that he may be entirely ruthless in seiz ing the weekly pay check, dragging it home and hurling it into his wife's lap. On occasions he may even be cross with the janitor especially on cold mornings when the steam is low and he must not allow landlords to browbeat him when it comes time to renew the lease. :o: If you ever get to feeling conceit- find out how some others with half your opportunities have won world wide recognition before they were anyway near your age. And if you should feel depressed you might note the number who have won both fame and fortune after they were far older than you. ORDER OF HEARING On Tetition for Appointment of Administrator.
