1925, at which special election the
proposition to authorize a special
levy of 2 mills for one year only for
the improving of highways In said
precinct by draining, grading and
graveling the same was submitted
to the voters of said precinct, do
hereby certify that the following is
a true and correct abstract of the
returns of said special election, to-
wit:

Wm. Rauth and son Herman and
wife were visiting last Sunday at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. James Tighe,
who make their home at Pilger.
Miss Anna Murphy, who has been
staying in Omaha was a visitor at
the home of her mother, Mrs. Charles
Murphy, for a short visit over last
Sunday.
Maggie O'Leary, who has been
quite ill for some time, is reported
as being better, and has been assist
ed greatly by the treatment of Dr.
Munson.
Edward Kelly was looking after
some business matters in Omaha on
last Monday, and also went to Platts
mouth. where he had some business
to look after.
Martin Luther Williams of Louis
ville was a visitor in . Manley last
Thursday morning with a load of
gasoline" for the station at the store
of R. Bergman.
Rudy Bergman is having his home
painted, the work being done by the
village painter, Mr. Fred Krecklow,
who sure knows well the way to
handle the brush.
Bert Mason of Weeping Water has
been relieving for a short time the
section foreman, Mr. George Ankrom,
the man in charge of the track work
for the Missouri Pacific
Richard Pickard has secured a new
car in an exchange, trading in his
Dort for a Universal sedan, which
will make the traveling which lie
and wife and family have to make a
pleasure.
George Curyea and wife, of Alvo,
were visiting in Manley on last Wed
nesday, coining to see and confer
with John Crane, manager of the
Crane, Curyea &. Murtey lumber busi
ness in Manley.
J. S. Rauth has installed a new
watering tank for the stock and on
last Thursday had the tank con
nected with the windmill in order
that the weather cculd do the work
instead of hand power.
Charles Lau has plowed his corn
over the second time and is now
ready and a part of the way over
the third time and had the fields
looking very fine. He expects to go
over the corn four times.
Edward Kelly was a visitor in
Plattsmouth last Thursday evenin
where he was visiting with friends
and also attending the American
Lesrion carnival, which was in evi
dence last week in the county seat.
In the game of ball which was
played at Manley last Sunday be
tween the Cedar Creek Beeves and
the Manley lads, resulting in a vic
tory for the home team, the score
being Manley 13 to Cedar Creek, 3.
Wm. Rauth has invested in a new
Studebaker roadster which he pur
chased at Nebraska City on last
Thursday and which is sure an ele-
ant car and will amply care for the
local traveling of this excellent gentleman.
Dr. and Mrs. G. L. Taylor, of Mur
ray were visiting in Manley on last
Thursday, they being guests at the
parish house of the St. Tatrick
church in Manley, and guests of
Rev. Higgins and his mother, Mrs.
W. D. Higgins.
Mrs. Charles Murphy has been
having a new roof placed on her
home in the country and other work
done around the home, which has
added much to its convenience and
has been' having the interior of the
home decorated.
Mrs. Charles Lau received from
the Henry Field Seed company one
hundred Brown Leghorn chicks one
day last week and will exrect to
grow some .excellent layers, as this
H. W. Tool and Charles I. Long
were at Weeping Water and accomp
anied by the tamily of Mr. Tool last
Thursday, where tha two gentlemen
were assisting in making the good
music, which is one of the things
that is helping to make Weeping
Water great,
Roilin Coon was a visitor in Om
aha last Monday, after which he
went to Lincoln, where he was look
ing after some business matters for
the remainder of the week. Roilin
has just returned from a trip to
Texas, where he made a good sale of
lands to parties at Blair.
On Sunday Rev. Higgins and his
mother, Mrs. W. D. Higgins, spent
the day in Omaha, going for the
early morning mass which was be
ing celebrated by the Rev. Arthur
Taher, who was but recently ordain
ed to the Priesthood at Baltimore on
June 13th, and who will be assistant
in the Omaha diocese. Rev. Higgins
and mother "were well acquainted
with Father Taher and family in the
east years ago.
Lightning Makes Display.
Last Sunday morning during the
storm, as the Rev. Higgins was stand
ing on the porch of the Parish house
watching the progress of the storm,
the lightning struck the large tree
at the corner of the St. I'atrick's
church, ripping much bark and some
wood from the tree and stunning
Father Higgins for a moment, but
otherwise doing no, damage.
Business is Good
So says Jack Lenard, the black
smith, who came to Manley a short
time since and has been pounding
away at the anvil, doing excellent
work, and as he has found things
good here he concluded he would
purchase the business and accord
ingly has purchased the shop from
Herman Dall, and will move the
equipment to the building just north
of the Manley Farm Implement com
pany building, where he can be
i'oiuid whenever wanted.
Manley Showing Gains
Manley as a town is showing much
energy ana is maKing good in ner
improvement. Manley could also care
for other business than what she has
at this time, such as a garage and a
drug store. There is in Manley a
good active commercial club, and the
following businesses represented be
sides the churches and schbol: One
bank, two general stores, a black
smith shop, implement house, a good
lumber yard with a stock of hard
ware and two elevators. The town
is noted as a good grain market and
also provides good facilities for the
shipment of live stock. There is an
efficient grade school and ample fa
cilities for all schooling up and into
the high school.
The town is situated on the Red
Ball highway running through the
center of the county east and west.
There is an excellent barber shop
here, a pool hall and but a short time.

cated here. Manley is surrounded by
an excellent farming and stock
raising district and the visitor will
find here excellent shopping oppor
tunities and low prices. Manlev is
an excellent country town in which
to have a home and to eneam In
business.
